Thank you for helping a new crossbow owner understand how to use the RCD (Rope Cocking Device). I watched probably 20 videos and they all let me down the path of frustration. Clean, simple, easy to follow. Job well done my friend. (Barnett XP 350)
Great video! I bought the same crossbow and it arrived today. Was struggling with "the gap" when I assembled it, until I saw this video. Thanks and happy hunting!
I really appreciate the info you provided here. I just received my STR today, 1st crossbow, anxious to try it out. Read the manual, assembled, wasn't sure how that cocking device worked. So was looking for that when I watched this and at 3:47 when you mention the gap - I had that too when I put mine together. I'd not have known without your help, so thank you!
Great video especially the tip showing not to have the gap when mounting. I had it then watched your video and fixed. Thank you! Also liked you showing how to cock the crossbow. Great video!
Thanks for the video. I put mine together last night. I got it from Academy Sports and they did not have any extra 22 inch arrows so I bought a box of six 20 inch.
Great video. Thanks. Several other videos I've watched and turned off have the guy making mistakes and correcting his errors and/or thumbing through manuals wasting my time while they try to figure out how instead of instructing.
Really enjoyed your video ....Today I just put together my new whitetail hunter str that I opted for with the illuminated scope and I see I ran into some of the same issues you experienced which made me smile to know they were shared! I also opted for the 400fps however at 187 pound draw weight it can be a bit of a workout for my 83 years so I will be keeping my Jackal too which has been good to me over the years. One crossbow is nice to have but two is even better for an old gun collector like me. Nice work take care.
Awesome. I think you will like it, I love mine. Just keep shooting and dialing it in. I was surprised at how accurate it shot. Glad the video helped out.
At 375 fps, this bow should shoot flat out to close to 30 yards. Once you have the scope on target, I'd set the top line at 20 yards. That will be good for 0-20 yards. Then, back up to 25, 30, 35 yards, using the top line and see where they hit on your target. I only use the top line / dot for deer hunting, as anything much beyond that, you take a chance the deer will jump the string, and end up with a bad shot. The rule of thumb I use for hunting distance / range is this: (FPS x .25)/3. For your bow, and mine in a few days ( I just ordered this bow last night, but have been shooting xbows for 8 years). 375 FPS x .25 (deer reaction time) = 93.75 feet your bolt will travel in .25 second, divided by 3 = 31.25 yards in .25 second. I've made longer shots, some good, some bad. When using this calculation for my bow, I've made consistently better shots, and more kills. Just sharing these 2 tips as you said you're new to crossbows. I wish someone would have shared this with me at the beginning, would have saved me some major headaches. lol. Good luck this season!
Thank you for sharing. Yes I think you are correct. I have had more time to practice shoot now and have learned a ton. This is a very good shooting xbow for the price. I can shoot very consistent 2" groups up to 40 yards easily. I have taken out hunting a few times. Just my opinion I ordered 5 more of the Barnett 22" head hunter bolts off of Amazon and they are the exact same bolts that came with the xbow and they all shoot very consistent. Just thought I would share that if you change from the bolts that came with the xbow it is going to probably change your scope. Thanks for sharing info with everyone.
@@lettherebelightchannel1335 I use the HeadHunter bolts exclusively. I use what the manufacturer recommends since they spent so much time and money on all the research to see what works best. The only thing I will change is the scope. I have a 3 red dot on my Jackal that I like very much. I'm retiring the Jackal and will put that scope on my wife's Droptine, and I ordered a new red dot for the STR. I like the dots better, and find I don't really need magnification for 30 yard and less shots. lol
Thank you so much for this vid. Bought my first crossbow and might have missed a few things had I not seen this. Probably would have had a much worse experience! 😂 Thank you again!
I just got the Barnett det 385 it has that same halo scope. Its so compact i love it. Today was the last day of archery and i dropped a doe at 15 yds with a head shot instant lights out doa.
Awesome!! Yes a lot of people say they take the scope off as soon as they get it. I really liked the scope. I guess I have never had one to judge it but I have been happy with everything about the crossbow. The only thing I kinda don't like after using it now for a while is the quiver seems flimsy and kinda cheap and seems to be in the way when you are using it and the bolts seem hard to get in and out of it but not a huge deal.
just grabbed on 'new' on ebay for $264 on an auction! i found your video looking for how to assemble the quiver attachment because the instructions are not clear. It may have been open box just judging by the box condition but it was original packaging. But the bow had never been fired or even assembled looking at the hex head you can tell. Great deal for a great bow!
One youtube channel that can help being new to crossbows is Death by Bunjie. He has a ton of good and helpful stuff on waxing the string and using rail lube instead of wax string/rail combo that may of come with the crossbow. The combination wax for string and rail contains wax which can clog up the trigger area so rail lube specifically is best. Also has all sorts of videos specifically on crossbows with alot of tips and such that helped me alot being I just myself got a new crossbow this year.
I just purchased and assembled the exact same model. You have to force the bow in hard towards the rail, get the two lined up in the up and down direction, and then thread down the bolt so you do not risk cross-threading the bolt. This is not in the instructions! Also, if you are right handed be sure to put the quiver mount on the right hand side as you look forward...not mentioned in the instructions either. Much of the plastic parts stick, so I put a little silicon grease where they connect so they can move a little easier. This includes the where the bolts attach to the quiver...which are very difficult to attach with a little bit of lube. The stock scope is indeed mediocre. I bought an aftermarket scope, a Hawke XB1, which is much better. The quiver pops off the quiver mount much too easy, so you have to really jam it on with a little lube, which helps a bit, but still does not connect well enough.
I just got the gap solved!! That was not intuitive or easy and thanks for your instructions! I ran a file a couple of times lightly on the plastic edge of the rail/flight track to allow the riser to fit into the correct track. This caused my bolt hole to be misaligned so I had to squeeze the flight track together (top and bottom squeezed together) to then allow the bolt hole to align, it then slipped right into place. AWESOME!!
Thank you. I believe I paid $369 from Amazon but it has been a while so prices may have went up. Amazon was cheaper than any other online site at the time.
I am considering stepping up to this xbow. But a local shop on their website says that this is easy to break if not used properly. To me, that sounds like a bit of nonsense. Aside from normal use in hunting, is there anything one should know when using this bow?
I have not had it for a very long period of time but I see nothing that would make me think that this would break easily. I think any crossbow would break if not used properly. Just make sure you grease it properly and often and don't leave it in the cocked position for large periods of time and I think you will be fine. Seems like a solid made crossbow by and good name brand. For the price I don't think you could go wrong. Mine has shot very accurately
It's been a while since I did it. I think it just sled on the rail and make sure the screw is facing down. And tighten the screw and clip the quiver on. I know it was confusing to me too. I hope that helps. You can check out the video and see if It looks like mine. I hope that helps you out
No, no, no. Do NOT ever put your fingers between the latch and the string stop while loading a bolt. Always load your bolt into position with your fingers between the stops and the end of the bolt shaft. Crossbow strings WILL take off a finger tip or worse. Dont take the chance.
Out of all the reviews, you were the first to share about that gap at the top during assembly. Thanks for the great video
i am a green complete noobie - i bought the same bow and this video was quite helpful. thanks for taking the time to make.

I don’t see how this can be assembled without having the gap there. 😮. I would love a deeper explanation as to how this can be done. Thanks!!
Extremely helpful. Unpacked my STR today and the instruction manual wasn’t nearly as helpful as your video. Thanks!

Got the Barnett Avenger all black model , $200 on Black Friday delivered to my door . Best money I spent on hunting equipment in a long time.
One of the best reviews I've seen. Thanks for all the info. I'll be purchasing one for my teenage son to hunt deer with me in in South La.

Was very helpful thanks man
Awesome 👌 glad it helps
good luck on cocking it! i'm purty strong and i couldn't get it cocked!
Very helpful thank you!
Awesome video they help me allot
You had the hooks backwards when cocking. Just asking for trouble that way.
Nice video. Helped me alit. Some parts was hard to hear you. Can I ask the price you paid for it. Have a good day and happy hunting

Did you have problems with the trigger ? Bought this cocked it safety off but the trigger is stuck all the way back. Any thoughts?
Peace bro. Can the quiver be mounted on the bottom rail? Im not a fan of the side mount option
The bracket that comes with the bow only allows side mount, but you can buy a mount this will allow under mounting.
@@thebigpunn1 cool thanks
Yes I am finding I am not a big fan of the side mount either
@@lettherebelightchannel1335 yeah. I know it doesnt weigh much but im quite sure it throws the balance off a bit.
Good info.
Great job thank you
No problem. Glad it helped someone out.

Just a correction that bows first pin shoots everything 20 yards and closer on the same first pin. You do not need a 10 yard pin
I completely agree with you. The manual is just hideous. They were so lazy that they couldn't make a manual for each model.
Who told you that the gap means it’s assembled wrong? I can’t find any information regarding it. Curious where you heard it from
I think I done some research and found it somewhere online. Just not sure where right now lol
The hooks should be up not facing down when you cock the crossbow. Look how the string went into the trigger mechanism.
I can't put on my quiver correctly any advice

California legal?
Not sure about that. You would need to contact your local game and inland authorities to check with them. Sorry I couldn't help answer that question.
I believe you have attached the quiver wrong.
It is very hard to coking, is more of the ones I had before
Yes it is kinda a work out lol. Especially if you are sighting it in and shooting over and over
