I teared up at your mother in law complimenting you. My mother in law has been nothing but horrible to me and it has broken my heart because I've come from a very loving empathetic family and I can't understand why she hates me so much. For 2 years I gave my all to try and make our relationship work and she did nothing but tear me down and tell me I'd never be good enough. You are both incredibly blessed to have loving in laws and I wish I could have that 😢
I know I don't know you, but I have to say I'm so sorry you're going through that too! I also want to add that sometimes people can tell or are triggered when they see that you've come from a loving environment, and can see how much love and light was poured into you. They attack you because of the darkness in them and possibly what they have never received. There are many reasons why people are dark and toxic to nice people, but no reason makes it okay!

I'm glad to learn that Koreans have a first birthday celebration, really cool learnings. In Hawai'i, the locals and native Hawaiians have what is called "The baby luau", also a big party for the first birthday. And I don't remember all the tidbits, but it's just as special. cheers!
Traditions and culture are so important. It is good that the children are being brought up this way. They may roll their eyes when there older when they see the old movies but will know how blessed they are.

In my culture, 1st birthdays (or kemem as we call it) are a big thing as well. Back in the days, it was rare for babies to make it to the age of 1 so when they did, we celebrated it. To this day, we spend thousands, rent out huge venues, and relatives/friends from all around the world would come. Towards the end, everyone would line up and put money in the baby's basket. It's interesting how certain cultures are similar. Happy 1st birthday, babies❤

Your Korean wedding was totally badass and the two of you looked amazing. My niece married a Korean guy here in the US and did the usual wedding stuff at a fancy winery. Now I wish they had gone the traditional Korean route, it would have been so much more memorable.
The first year party in Latin America is also a big deal too for most. The tradition in Korea for the children to pick an item I like it. I might try that on my next baby birthday.

I miss Korea!!! I spent 2 month (and my savings too lol) last year, I'm going back this November. Fun fact, I loved Busan people. As long as you try and you are respectful you will have a good time. It's not perfect, just like everywhere else. Now, I totally get why/how Megan was able to assimilate to this culture. It's probably different for me since I was there as a tourist and I'm hella curious. My vocabulary is trash but I did my best. My first week home (Lyon, France) was funny. I kept bowing while greeting people. I brought back kimchi, its so good. Oh and they don't have real bread (don't judge me I'm French lol)

You're so lucky that your family is willing to come to Korea! Before I came to Korea four years ago my mom said she would never come to Korea even if I got married or if I had babies. I'm married now and she didn't come. I wish I could show my family how fun Korea is.

I love learning about Korean culture through your videos. Because America is such a melting pot of culture (which I think is beautiful), traditions can get mashed together or forgotten unless your family activity takes part. It's interesting that younger Koreans' favorite Western culture and Westerners want to experience Korean culture.

Aww...what a nice first birthday celebration. We have large first birthday party celebrations here in Hawaii too. Luna looks so much like her daddy and Rubin looks a lot like mommy. So nice that you are keeping the traditions alive and that your family was there to celebrate with all of you.

I love learning about Korean culture through your videos. Because America is such a melting pot of culture (which I think is beautiful), traditions can get mashed together or forgotten unless your family activity takes part. It's interesting that younger Koreans' favorite Western culture and Westerners want to experience Korean culture.
