    Hi, I am a Puerto Rican living in NY. I've been watching your videos for a while. At first, I wasn't sure what your videos were about. Now I am enjoying your videos. I apologize for the "haters" of my island. I am happy that you guys are doing these videos. Language is constantly changing, so it must be very interesting. I am glad you guys got a car. I felt so bad that you guys were crossing those highways just to go buy things at the grocery store. I look forward to more videos. Thank you so much for all your efforts.

    "Mai" es un modo cariñoso de confianza en que algunxs boricuas llamamos a nuestras madres. Se asocia al estilo jíbaro de hablar en la isla y tiene influencia del portugués "mae”. En los tiempos de colonización española a la isla llegaron muchas personas de Portugal junto con españoles durante todo el periodo de dominación de Portugal bajo España entre 1580 a 1640.

    Mai es use by some people here (PR) as a shortet version of mama (madre) or Pai is the same but for papa (padre).

    • @derajlance38801
      @derajlance38801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It took me a minute to figure that out. I have an employee that kept calling me "compai" and I couldn't figure it out. Then out of nowhere it just popped into my head that -pai must mean padre, so compai=compadre

    Don't focus on the negativity. Unfortunately you will always have a very vocal minority. You guys are doing a great job and it is great the way you are doing it. You are giving a very different perspective that some idiots can never understand. I was born and raised in the island and then moved to the states. You have been nothing but respectful and gringo or not you are an American just as we are. May you will soon be one but you're still part of our Latin community so you are a sister of ours. Enjoy our island, it isn't just mine it is yours too. Welcome and keep doing what you are doing. In fact I wish I didn't know Spanish so I can sign up, but for now I'll continue to watch all of your videos. Cheers!!! Maltas up!

    Yes, go to Caguas, that’s my hometown! Weekends in the La Plaza Palmer, the typical plaza in the middle of downtown all Hispanic cities/town, have comeback (they were a thing several decades ago and then went away). Families hang out, take pictures, get some food, kids run around and there’s sometimes live shows/events from different entities and groups from the city coordinated through the municipal government. The Botanical Gardens have Taino petroglyphs.

      Or it came from the Spanish word for "Greek", greico as in "it's Greek to me" because people couldn't understand them.
      Or another theory is that it came from Mexicans during the Mexican-American War because the Mexicans would say "Green go home", referring to the color of their uniforms.
      The world may never know.

    Me encantan sus videos! Llevo 4 años viviendo en el Reino Unido y extraño mucho mi islita asi que me da mucha felicidad verlos a ustedes disfrutar de mi país.
    Ahora si lo de los cafés todo el mundo tiene su lugar preferido,mi favorito es el de La Hacienda San Pedro, pueden visitar la hacienda...creo que es en jayuya pero no estoy seguro, pero en San Juan tienen un coffee shop en la calle que va paralela a Bellas Artes en Santurce.
    Hay otro cerca de la estación de tren Bayamón que era buena...de camino al Pueblo desde el Canton Mall llamado Tueste Coffee shop,es bueno pero es mas mi favorito por nostalgia de cuando estudiaba y cogía el tren todos los días.

    I been watching your videos and I think that as you said the problem is the way you protect yourselves. The comparing of the language (Spanish to Spanish) was not the best. Every Latin country has different slang and accents so it kind of came thru like criticism. Puertorricans are very proud, no excuse to be nasty but I can see where they coming from. In this video you seem more humble, every culture has a different way to perceive things. The Caribbean, specially Cuba, Dominican Republic and PR are very different than the rest of Latin America. Hope you guys can soften this barriers with time and get more use to our ways and culture.

    Is it weird being veg in Puerto Rico? I have a bunch of Puerto Rican friends. Other than the one vegan, the rest when they're hanging out spend like 90% of their time talking about meat-based foods. They make a lot of greasy foods and have lots of health problems. (I know some health problems could be from all the chemicals the U.S. government has used around PR, treating the people like Guinea pigs. )

      @Johnny Rutz no doubt, but PR may be one of the more extreme examples of US use of chemicals. At least this is what I've heard.
