I am a huge fan of the Waldron punch sets, both the sub miniature and the larger one. When dealing with the tiniest of the sub miniature punches, I put a drop of CA on was paper and take a sharpened sewing needle in a pin vise, "spear" the tiny disk, just touch it to the drop of CA and place it where you need it. Give it a few seconds and then carefully twist the pin vise slowly to release the needle from the dot. It works like a champ.
Its amazing how much visual interest that can be achieved simply by adding a few small details. Thanks for keeping me inspired! Looking forward to the rest of this build
The fuel pump fairings you mention round 10:32 first appeared on the late P-28J Lightnings, according to Bert Kinzey in his P-38 Lightning Derail & Scale monograph, which he establishes through the photographic record.
I've got a feeling this is going to be many parts! That's what I like! 😁 I have this kit in my stash, so I will be watching with baited breath. (or as some would say, worms in my mouth.) 🤔
Very nice Matt. You can get this kind of fasteners using as a punch, mechanical pencils. I have 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 1 mm for this kind of cases!! you can get tiny ones!!!!
Sean from Primed Modelworks built this kit a while back. He ended up attaching the props with magnets, because the engine shaft wasn’t centered properly. So all of that engine work is further wasted because they don’t line up correctly. He also went wheels up and put it on a stand, as is his typical MO when the landing gear detail isn’t great.
Hi Matt.. I'm not gonna try to tell you how to do anything.. your builds are awesome!! But.. when I make little rivets/bolts/pins with a punch I use the TET brush to pick and place. You should try it, "it works a treat" as we say here in grey UK. I have the Zotz G/H decals for the 1/32 P-38. Would they help you build a dirty old OD scheme on this model?
I’m sorry mate I cracked up when you just put the glue down & you dropped the tiny bit out of the tweezers. That’s modelling. This one is going on be epic. I hope you finish it. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
My ocd would make me detail the whole engine even if you’ll never see it. I think I want to do the one they found in the glacier in Greenland. I think it was Greenland? Nice build so far.
Glacier Girl? P-38F, which is tough to get to from the Trumpeter kit. Honestly, I wish they'd just give you blank bits for use in the nacelles, and then let you display the engine separately outside the aircraft. I'd love to do that.
on your weathered olive drab idea...sometimes it looked purple..you can see on on some color footage. very unstable color. it's supposed to be a near yellow and black.

Yeah I've got one of the Master turbo-super sets on order - just discovered it a few days ago and the wait's either going to slow things down or at least divert me somewhere else for a bit.
Off to the races! Enjoying the heck out of the first segment. It's a shame, in a classically Trumpeter way, that all that engine goodness is utterly wasted while you get chunky cockpit details and smooth posts (except for ejector pin marks) for struts.
Looking forward to the cockpit decals but these guys including Quinta may find they will over price themselves ...the price has to come down I reckon. As far as the compressor goes I think it is quieter since the mod but if it annoys you throw a box with insulation over it. Then you may have to change your intro Mat
Found this th-cam.com/video/qLLYGZo88EI/w-d-xo.html It's a short vid where the builder of a 48th Hind shows how to install Quinta decals. Not quite the same as what you have, but it might be helpful just the same.
Honestly, I wonder how long before you run out of F**ks with this kit. Considering you have the Tamiya in the pipe-line... Yhea the scale is not the same, but they are world apart.

Nice work. Thanks for going through it all.
Landing gear looks 200% better with just some well thought through mods, looking forward to more 👍🏻
Nice. A lot of details on this kit. 😊😊😊😊
Nice looking details Matt 😁👌
Haven't watched it yet , but can't wait :)

The p-38 is beautiful

Matt do you just leave the small bits of tape on as the brake line clips on the struts? Or is that like lead foil or some other material? Thank you
It's tape!
Great Video. When you attached the brass loop on the oleo did you drill holes for the two prongs or just super glue it?
Have you picked out a scheme yet?
Yep!
Hey Doog, was that masking tape sliced thin to secure the brake lines?
"Applique" is pronounced "appleekAY", not "appleek". -Just a note for public speaking.
A beautiful aircraft but isn't this kit a victim of the trend of over engineering which has become fashionable these days? Thank you uploader.
Give the stickers to the kids and the one that’s pisses your wife off first wins 😀

That's why I'm trying to get at least a good way through construction before I pull the Tamiya out.
