Leaving for Tokyo then Okinawa the following week, binge-watched your entire Karate Nerd In Okinawa series as preparation. I'm very excited for this trip as it was 4 years in the making, Arigato Gozaimasu Jesse-san for all of the information you have shared about karate over the years! I got Shodan in Shorin-Ryu last summer and I don't think I'd be half the karateka I am without your content.

Jesse, you seem like such a cool honest dude. I got into martial arts through Kung fu (Feng Yang Sau Gung Fu to be exact) but have recently moved on to thai boxing, Judo and boxing (mainly due to being in the military I travel often) but I've got to say I love your channel. I think you really highlight the 'Art' part of Martial Arts. A lot of people focus on the 'Martial' aspect which I think is probably best highlighted in competitions involving combat (K1, UFC, Boxing etc) but in terms of the Art side of it what you do is great and you for sure are infectious with your knowledge of the history of it also!

Jesse thank you. I asked a question to you awhile back about what style you prefer and I realized upon watching your videos that even after 28 years in the martial arts I still have so much more to learn. I realized it's not about whether you study issun ryu or shorin ryu or shotokan or American kenpo it's that you study Karate. Just as a rose can look different from any other rose so can each style in a system. It doesn't make them any worse or better and each has it's good points and bad points but just studying karate is an amazing thing. I appreciate you opening my eyes. Thank you brother.

I went to Okinawa for the first time when I was 9. My parent's had unknowingly booked a hotel in the red light district. I wasn't aware at the time but the men who checked out taxi every time we entered and left the street were Yakuza members who ran the place across the street. An absolutely fantastic video. Congrats Jessie, I know it's not the medal you wanted but you had a great time doing it.
So sad to hear that it's over, I love this video series. Can't wait for the next one. Of course there's going to be a season 3. Haha.

I'm 2 years too late but I really enjoyed your Journey. I had a dream to travel Japan and Okinawa to trace the history of Karate and this help with that. Now I am more excited to continue my own journey as a martial artist. This was beautiful for me. Arigatōgozaimasu👺👍🏾🔥
