Just so much after having it for 10 years for kia GT. That Hyundai turn out to be one of the best cars I ever had in my life of 58 yrs. Barely put any money into it for repairs.
I bought a ironman silver 2013 Veloster Turbo back in 2018. . used to never see anyone driving my car! Glad to see people have come to appreciate this car. Still have mine!
I miss my Veloster so much. Bought one when they first came out. Super reliable more room then you’d think. Comfortable good gas and honestly I feel the looks have aged well. So sad it was totaled. Definitely would buy another.
I've had one for a few months now and the thing is unique. Threw an intake on it and man has it just been a joy to drive. I'm almost always smiling. Don't expect it to be super reliable though, take care of the engine and turbo. Get a catch can run premium gas, stay on top of oil an matinece. Dont be an absolute mad man bangin it off the red line, its not a Toyota. Do your research and you should 100 percent get the most out of this amazing KDM car.
Had the NA version for 2 years and now a '13 turbo for 4 years in Canada. It's been a reliable platform, definitely unique, tons of features for the price and model year. Not as diverse as Honda, Subaru, Toyota in terms of aftermarket support but you still have a good array of companies if you're going down the performance route.
@@edwardzx7 Just get the Turbo, the base model is so woefully underpowered it makes highway driving suck. It's worth the few extra bucks for a turbo even if you don't much care for enthusiast driving.
Thanks for mentioning how tall you are, I'm 6'2" as well and I'm thinking about buying one of these and I was wondering if I would fit. Great review! I drive V8 GMC Sierra right now and I need to park it for a while with the gas prices being where they are, cheers!
My first thought with any vehicle is “if there’s an immediate emergency with my loved ones will it get me there fast and safe regardless of weather” I’m thinking of going the Subaru cross trek way, but does this velostar handle in weather at all..?
I've a 13' VT and I live in mid-Ohio, so I'll be honest and say it's certainly not the best in winter weather, however I will say I never had an issue getting stuck or anything so far, my biggest issue has been icey hill-y driveways and even with a bit finesse you can get it up them depending on your tire. It's a much more summer car than winter, but I've not had any serious issues even with heavy snow driving to work in the mornings
Just got myself a 2017 matt grey Veloster Turbo. 😎 Such a fun car to drive. Real eye catcher and a great balance between sporty and yet civilized enough to drive every day.
@@giorno2505 Great so far. I had a weird issue with the knock sensor that just...died one day and the car wouldn't get any power anymore. But after I changed it, everything is good again. The car paint on my edition is SUPER sensitive. But otherwise, all great.
0:37 Not sure where you got your pricing from, but I bought a new Veloster Turbo in 2016 (stick shift, but _sans_ the tech package, as I didn't want the built-in GPS or sunroof - but that package was only another $1500) and paid just under $19k - far from the "upper $30,000" you suggested. PS: I stuck with the 18" rims - no more rough riding than the 17" imho. 🙂
@@DriveRide hahahaha! When I bought my GTI 2012 “fully equipped” I thought it came with rear camera. It didn’t. I figured out when my ex came home complaining about it 🤦🏻♂️ I couldn’t have cared less about that feature but oh my I made a mistake 😄. Once again, thank you! This review convinced me to buy the Veloster maybe next year.
Stay away from the veloster. I had two of them. Probably the worst car I’ve ever owned. Engine issues which resulted in recalls. I had a replacement just for my turbo to go out as well. The Hyundai company cut their supply Chains when the pandemic hit. To this day the appointments are 5-6 months out. Both dealerships that are close to me couldn’t even give me a date. :( Fun car but they are not meant for speeding like they advertise. You don’t want to push on those rpm’s to long and also staying in a speed from 70-80 for to long can cause issues later on. Just look at their manuel book.
My kia forte 1.6 turbo has been very reliable, I drive mine on the Highway at hight rpms. No issues, now change the oil every 3k and I use hotshot FR3 in every oil change., Catch can is a most. If you take care of the car and do not neglect oil changes they last. If you want Toyota reliability and you are lazy keeping maintenance on par, buy a Toyota .
I've been beating on mine (and hard) for the last 6 years and have yet to have anything break. Besides which, if it broke, there's that huge warranty to fall back on. 😁
@@aussiebloke609 Consider yourself lucky because hyundai and kia have been known for catching on Fire it's mostly the Kia Souls though but I just heard that the Hyundai velosters are not reliable Reliability Rating is 3 out of 5.0 which ranks it 19th out of 36 for compact cars in its class

Writing from California: Great overview, thank you. I was impressed that at 6'2", you were able to fit inside the back seats.
Thanks! 😄
Absolutely fantastic review. I have one reserved af car max for a test drive tomorrow and I literally cannot wait!
I would like to see a review and virtual tour of the 2nd gen 2019+ Veloster Turbo.
Thanks man. This review was informative and fun.

Just picked one up for $1200.
Has no compression in #1. Look forward to fixing it and driving it around.

What model did you choose, and why did you choose this car? I’m looking at choosing a turbo vs the regular model.

Can you add a turbo to a non turbo version or not?
What kind of wheels did you add? I would like a similar set for my car!
They are “jet gloss black” by Fast Wheels 🙂
i would recommend running avids. they're like 800 for a set and look awesome. the av06s capture the style of TE37s perfectly.
I thinking of getting this. But don’t like the gear shift. I am use to first gear the reverse on this car
