2021 Morgan Plus Four Review - Driven by Ben Collins

- Former Top Gear Stig Ben Collins gets behind the wheel of the latest 2021 Morgan Plus Four for a road review. The latest Morgan Plus 4 is powered by the throaty turbocharged BMW 2.0 Engine, whose four thumping cylinders produce 255 bhp and 295 IB ft of torque. Couple that with the all new lightweight chassis and the Plus Four will accelerate from 0-62mph in just over 5 seconds!
This latest Morgan is available in both manual and automatic variants, in this Plus Four review, we take a look at the manual finished in stunning Miami Blue - the perfect colour for chasing clouds around the Cheddar Valley. It also features a luxuriant leather interior and a workable (yes workable without the need for a PHD or a team of engineers) convertible roof.

being 6' 9" tall, that's one of the many automotive experiences I will never get to have- the feeling of driving a lithe roadster on a twisty road. I guess I'll just live it vicariously.

I fell instantly in love with Plus 4 when I saw it first time on a cover of a British magazine more than 40 years ago… The one with the wooden frame and leather strap over the hood (bonnet)…. They were still produced in small number (by order in UK)…. Six figures back than (and in the former USSR) seemed like a dream….. Now…. In California… this would be a perfect weekend drive…. I still love the old ones with chrome and lots of things done by hand the old fashioned way…. Someday…. I will own one in red…. Or distant second ….silver.

Nice to hear that you were happy with the manual gear shift. A salesman at our local Morgan dealer said to me - as I mentioned that a manual should also be available in the PlusSix (which it is not), that the gear ratio in the manual was too large/ wide so that you can actually only use the first four gears - apart from a German Autobahn. Would you confirm this statement of his?
Not had the opportunity yet to test drive the PlusFour with a manual ….

Owned a Moggy in the 70’s and since had lots of great cars. I currently drive a Porsche, but the more I remember of my Moggy time and watch vids like this……. It’s going to be a difficult choice!

The new side mirrors - on foot long stalks - look ridiculous.
The new 8" headlights look frogeyed.
Why on Earth they felt the need to integrate the turn signals into the headlights and tail lights.....?

It's a lovely thing, but, and I hate myself for typing this something was lost when they put BMW engines inside. If only Morgan had had the resources to to be able to remake the K Series and bolt on a supercharger, or even go down the Honda VTEC route, what with the tenuous British connection. But hey ho, one can still dream.

Highest ratio of convertibles in the world because UK weather is actually far better than people want to admit maybe? Many UK vids I watch and the weather is lovely and a convertible is great when it's not too cold and not blistering hot so I can understand there being a lot of them. As a foreigner listening to the English moan about the weather is sorta funny. They throw Goldilocks weather quips in mid sentence without realising they're doing it. Weather moaning is a habit or something learnt from birth maybe?
I think it's the unpredictable nature of Island weather that stirs conversation - it habitually rains on your parade / BBQ / wedding / crops / fresh coat of paint etc - from birth to grave we hear about this lottery of anguish and it's pretty amusing, never more so than when it snows and the state of unpreparedness crashes down on the Brits so badly you'd think the UK was in the Caribbean
The most impractical car I have ever been in. The 2024 model has floor vinyl material covering the dash, not tasteful.
