As soon as you move into your new house, you'll get lots of scams in the mail offering to "help" you with your homestead exemption for a large fee. You don't need help, and you can do it yourself for free, and they'd probably take your money and run anyway. You'll also get hit with lots of scams for "Your package is being held, call us..." notices.
Very helpful video. You have covered quite a few topics under homestead exemption. Would like to add, homestead exemption brings another important benefit: a 10% annual cap on the appraised value.
Reg. the Comal ISD example, is it 20% additional exemption on top of the $100k general? ie., if I bought a house for $400K, then do I get the general $100k exemption plus the 20%? i.e., is my taxable value for Comal ISD $220k?

@@MR404able sorry for slow response. Yes I’m reading it does include mobile homes. Call CAD Monday to confirm. You don’t have to own the land. As long as you own the property THAT will qualify by itself
Hey great video. Question. I have a 100% disability rating from the VA if I take the exemption when I move to Texas are my property taxes deferred or is my property exempt. Meaning when I die and leave my house to me child will they be stuck paying all the back taxes for all the years I was alive and not paying or will my child get to start fresh and just have to pay the taxes from the year I die onward?
I know that you take your 100% letter into the appraisal district to qualify for fu;ll property tax exemption here. Leaving which house to your child, the one here or the one there? Jsut need that for clarity

general homestead exemption is a separate exemption from Comal ISD.

Does this apply to mobile homes like in a community ? If you own the mobile home but you rent the lot.

I was talking about leaving the house in Texas to my child will owe the back taxes I was exempt from while I was alive.
@ there are no taxes when you’re alive. Therefore there would be no back taxes, only taxes going forward

$100k applies to every primary property owner in Texas
