I share many of your same experiences and thoughts/feelings of this great game. I decided after some waffling back and forth to give myself to the lies of P and then go back to elden ring after it's DLC as I have not played that since a month after launch.
I played most major releases this year so far and I honestly think LoP is a solid contender for GOTY. Starfield was a huge, overrated caramel onion...playing Lies was so refreshing after that half-baked turd.
On PC with a 3090 it runs perfectly maxed out. On SteamDeck in windows 11 with game pass it also runs great. The game is amazing, only issue is that the perfect block window is really small. It’s not as predictable as let’s say Sekiro. Funny you had to mention about the difficulty of this verses Elden Ring, which was very easy. Lies of P is a true FromSoftware clone…..it’s amazing this is the studios first real game and it’s this good.
Looks like DF will finally be excited to cover this game's PC performance in a sea of broken messes (looking at you Jedi Survivor). Cant wait to see Alex's relief and joy covering this game that might finally bring us hope for more AAA like PC games to actually be properly optimized. It is shocking a small studio figured out how to eliminate shader compilation stutters that the bigger studios either can't figure out or are just lazy. To top it all off they really maxed out UE4 with this game on a visual level. I thought this was done in UE5!! Hoping Lords of the Fallen will be a similar polished PC experience! Lies of P could very well be a GOTY contender
I'm near the end of the game, and I'm at 63 hours. People said it only takes 30 hours to beat, I have NO IDEA how that would be possible. I do try to get most items, but not near 100% more like 80-90%, so still not sure how it would be so short. Anyone else near this amount of time played?
wow, so I can play this on game pass for pc. A couple of questions:- 1) how good is quest tracking? quest tracking on Elden Ring was terrible. I am not asking for easy mode, but I missed so much on Elden Ring. Inever bumped in to the pot dude (Alexander?) when he was stuck, so completely missed his entire story line. 2) can you make a perma save that you can go back to, and replay content once you realised you f***d up? that upset me in other games, you screw up you deal with the consequences, no re-loading back to 30 mins earlier. 3) the story line, Is it good? not gonna lie, if I was in charge and the devs said we should write a souls like game based on Pinochio, I would laugh them out of the office. 4) if you hit a diffuclty spike, and get slaughtered, can you reload, and re-spec maybe, or level up and go back, or does it mean restarting the game from scratch. 5) is it purely single player? As in othe souls like games you can get invaded by other players, which I was never really a fan of. you have 30 mins free time, you have your goal, some twat spawns and kills you, I have to log off acomplishing nothing, even if you kill them you lost your 30 mins fighting another player. I have a job and a family, time is precious.
Boss amulet increases the scaling of the legion arm, not its unlocked abilities according to other videos I watched. Wording seems a bit confusing, as I had though it unlocked abilities too.
Dom if you ever need a vid idea, you should do one explaining the difference in difficulty between Elden Ring and other soulsborne games. Because there is A LOT of conflicting information and no consensus on where Elden Ring slots into the difficulty ranking, with opinions (from souls vets) ranging from "it's easily the hardest" to "it's one of the easiest." I'm guessing this means the answer is a complex one.
The thing is that most souls games have a fixed difficulty curve giving you a fair amounts of paths to shape your experience, like grabing very early some broken giant bonk at the cost of having no defense. But in ER you have a much much bigger amount of paths to shape your experiencie. So it may be a very hard game if you play it with some builds, or the easiest one by having early a broken build that kill bosses like they were butter. So, since the game offers you those options early I would say ER is easier, because you have much more ways to cheesee the game since the beginning, but that easy difficulty is only unlocked if you want to take that path, if you chose a more traditional gameplay style you will suffer a lot.
They realized the sheer amount of cheesy bullshit players were gonna metagame and utilize so in an effort to balance it, they in turn gave the bosses more bullshit than in any previous soulslike title they made. That’s why there’s such a discrepancy. And we mostly have the fact that they felt compelled to stoop to the “muh open world” crowd to thank for that
Nice video, I hope someone already explained the amulet “bug” , is not the built tier but the abilities tier the one that gets upgraded. For example a legion are scaling A with mobility starts scaling S. Got it? 🙌🏼
Really looking forward to this game. Bad timing though, it arrives next week while I am out of town. I just platinumed Sekiro yesterday so I am hoping that carries over to this game a bit.
I replayed sekiro 5 times, there is a little dejavu with the mechanical hand and movement, but it's not very similar, sekiro will forever be the best game I've ever played.
While the game is "decent", it is quite unacceptable that important dodge mechanics that are present in other souls-likes/souls games, are locked away via progression until you get a certain item later on. It makes it feel incredibly clunky until you get those specific unlocks.
Is it possible? Another great game in 2023? This game will be epic.. I'm still in Starfield (just in 50hrs and basically beginning), I wanted to go back to Remnant 2 one more time and Hogwarts Legacy around the holidays but I have to find some free time for Pi.. Elden Ring, after 300hrs is something I really want to play one more time but it won't be possible this year because there are soooo many fantastic games. Great, let's buy and play Pinokio :)
The amulet isn’t a “tier” like that it’s the scaling of the legion, easily misread or misunderstood, but I thought the same originally until a friend pointed it out
I'm putting starfield to the side for now until they optimize it better. Lies of p runs amazing on my 4080. Starfields performance compared to this game is crap. My PC gets a workout running starfield and it shouldn't be with the quality of graphics.. Starfield is fun but they need to fix it.
Tuesday can’t get here soon enough for me..I was wondering if you could share the weapon combo that made The Cyrus Montana you were rocking the other day lol
this is exactly what I keep telling people Yes the look is souls like but it has a different feel because it's a different game made by a different company... you got to git gud and learn those mechanics
Eh in criticityoi could say the game forced you to play one specific way. Actually the dodge is garbage in this game, you get stun locked which gets you stuck in combos. Your character can at times feel much slower than the opponents creating a feel of unfairness. Boss too often have two phases with two full bars. There are a lot of poijts missing in the review and after 50h not spotting them is strange. However the game is as close as we will get to a dark souls game until a next one comes along. I disagree with the combat feeling fluid though, it's clunky in it's own way to be fair. The movement for instance has breaks in between animations do it breaks the fluidity and creates for long wind ups, unlike dark souls which had a smoother transition. It'd a game engine issue, since Unreal is really more into the shooting meaning the top body and the lower body should move independently. Other than that nice video.
I've found a few amulets that have bugs all have been from bosses. Also one thing I really hate is in this game my first attack can be 129 than my next be 549 like what the fuck is up with that
Wait…no gimmick bosses? What the heck is the Door Guardian? 😂 That’s a gimmick boss if I’ve ever seen one. Not a bad thing, it’s just that ever souls game seems to have one or two of them.
I tried the demo awhile back and couldn’t really get a feel for the gameplay. I’m Souls vet with literally a few thousand hours in between the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring, but I never got to play Bloodborne or Sekiro I’ve heard the gameplay is closer to those and the thing I really couldn’t get used to was how useless my dodge felt or the parrying system, anybody got any tips?
Dodge can be enhance with the skill tree and parry have a stricter window than Sekiro so there's no tips other than learning the patterns and tighten your timing for parry. The problem is, boss attacks animations are usually robotic and stiff, even the human bosses. So it's hard to time the parry properly until you get the full timing from the windup to the attack release.
@@SHwoKing thanks, I think the biggest problem I’ve had is the boss’s movement patterns like you mentioned, they’re just not clicking with me, I couldn’t even get past the first one, granted I haven’t spent THAT much time trying. I love the aesthetic though so I’m just gonna have to get back on the demo and practice.
Utilize the perfect guard system - it’s essential. In the same vein, I’d recommend leaning towards heavier blades as they provide a better guard resistance (essentially how much chip damage you receive on a normal block) Note that even normal blocking with heavy blades is certainly a viable strategy due to a similar system to Bloodbornes “rally” where you can regain health after blocking by quickly attacking. You can also upgrade how much health you get back thru upgrades to the P organ There is a notable lack of a poise mechanic, making using heavy weapons more difficult. However, due to the blade / handle system, you can put a high guard resistance blade on a high Dex handle (such as a rapier or glaive) for the best of both worlds.
Amazing game so far I’m 10 hours in and it’s def challenging I feel the perfect guard is a little tighter than in the demo or it must be me The lore environments and enemies are awesome
@@stevenjohnson8736You can definitely compare it to dark souls and it's pretty hard as well. At some points it was a bit harder but overall doable if you are a veteran
I don’t think they do a good job with the two phase bosses. Just give us more difficult one phase bosses. Or have phase 2start at half health or something
Souls likes are always harder than true from soft games and since they are always a little bit clunky too I never finish them. Thankfully this is on game pass so I can try it risk free!!
Most of them aren't very good in my opinion. Code vain had potential but it was just boring, and nioh its fun but not that good. Wo Long was fun enough for me to finish the game.
@@NuclearAbyss "nioh its fun but not that good." My intentions are far from starting some kind of idiotic and pointless flame thread, or personally attacking you for only god knows what reasons. But if i have to be honest, having the audacity of considering both Nioh and Nioh 2 as "not that good souls-like games", has to be one of the shittiest takes i've ever seen from quite some time, from when a bunch of From Software haters started to talk shit about Elden Ring during the CNT precisely.
@@jador9641 The world/level design its not very good, the balance of the game its not very good. The end game its very by the numbers, it comes down to equipping the hire lvl gear. Its a good action game, but not 10/10 or even a 9 by a long shot. you might like nioh a lot, but as a souls like it lacks a lot of the best features of souls, level design, music, challenging but fair feeling. So far everything we seen and by the demo, lies of P seems to be one of the best souls likes. with lords of the fallen having a chance at being very fun. but we will have to wait and see.
Nioh 2 is the hardest souls game I have ever played. Some players got stuck in the missions, but the real challenge is the end game content (Depths of the Underworld). Floors 16-30 are the bloodiest and unforgiving souls content for me. I decided to quit since I am getting 1-2 shots dead. I am already satisifed with my achievement and skills so I had to stop. Lies of P is nowhere near Nioh 2 for me.
I didn’t play Elden Ring because the whole knight in shining armor fighting dragons and casting spells do not appeal to me in the slightest. Despite having played Dark Souls 3 before and begrudgingly getting the platinum. Many years before all that, though, I played Bloodborne. And that game is a masterpiece. My first entry into any FromSoft game, I learned how punishing it can be and embraced the fast action and aggressive gameplay, which later would help me with Sekiro. So to walk around Krat, blocking and butchering puppets right now (currently at the workshop, dealing with King Fuocco), is not out of place for me. I do wish they got rid of the weight stat and requirements- they were non existent in Bloodborne, why have them here.
Yeah you did miss a lot. Eldin has some bloodborne elements and places to it. You are really missing out on something epic which we might never experience again
It's rubbish. The bosses are just elaborate QTEs which you have to memorise. The NPCs and enemies are always in the same places for you to memorise. What a joke ! Your build makes only a small difference to your combat success. All your time spent developing your character with weapon load-outs, buffs and trinkets is gameplay filler. I've seen all types of combat on TH-cam from players using different builds and nobody is OP. The game is linear and totally scripted with player options just a ruse. Just watch how the post-stagger big combo has to be performed standing in a particular red circle. WTF ?! They should have had difficulty settings like so many other games. At least the story is good.
Why many reviewers said this game very good while i think the game is just too bland and boring? Nothing rlly creative than previous souls, i feel the game is too ordinary than future souls like wukong (superior combat) and lord of the fallen (better world design/hav 2 worlds)
@@zinAab79 well darksouls are darksouls theyre same franchise, but ER has massive improvement than previous souls, the openworld, world building, build variety are massive.. Look at wukong, the graphic, the nature placement are so artistic (elden ring also has art in their world), the fighting also look incredible, the bosses, kungfu tiger etc look awesome, also look at lord of the fallen concept switching between world are so fresh and appealing. This game is just overhyped.
Even Elden Ring features a vast lifeless open world filled with mindless humanoid puppet soldiers scattered all over the place until the Mountaintop area, which does nothing than mindlessly chasing and attacking you on sight with their own copy-paste moveset, assets and routine, simply standing in the open without doing absolutely nothing in the most unnatural way imaginable whenever their AI is in idle mode. But still i don't see anyone calling out Fromsoftware for this flaw.@@jdrahonovsky
" I experienced no clunkyness with the combat" Sincerely no offense ment but...how can you say this for a game with 0 recovery frames and poor dodge ?( unless you upgrade it later on after half the campaign) . If TH-cam allowed me i would post a clip from another video where the character gets hit and before he regains controls of the character he get hit again and dies...i can back this up cause i finished the demo....yeah its atmosphere its great but..please tell the truth.. the combat is clunky. People should know what they are getting into
I’m 10 hours on but I’m struggling to find it a good souls like, the combat is so bad, you are a slow sluggish character even with upgrades and grinding you are repeatedly taking on extremely fast bosses who don’t have much cool time. You are a DS2 character at level 1 against Bloodborne style bosses.
To add on with the combat, the combat isn’t risk reward on the series x. It’s punish punish punish, the block is broken, the parry is broken, the i frames are next to non existent compared to the the souls-borne series. This doesn’t come close to the BB combat no where near. They is quick smooth agile, responsive, on the Xbox version it’s the complete opposite. You are experience a millisecond delay on dodges, the boss will track you to a tee on all wind ups to the final second. I was expecting a good game and a successor to BB this ain’t it, stick with Bloodborne, it’s better and MORE FUN. This isn’t. Which is a shame, the demo period was meant to be a tester and the devs reportedly said they would take the feedback and alter it, seems like they just ignored us on the Xbox side of things. Art, graphics story all good. 5/10 at the most.
Also make sure it’s on quality mode NOT performance mode. On the series X, it makes a huge result in playability. On the series x quality mode actually comes across more responsive whilst performance breaks the game as the 60 fps applies to everything apart from playable characters combat. On performance everyone is a fair 30 fps, you and the bosses.
Not worth playing at all. It’s the same old same old in souls like games. It’s a bs take. So much potential and they make it impossible to do anything unless you go back and forth killing the same people to get ergo

Started playing it today and got to where I did when the demo ended. Can't wait to dive in tomorrow.
I'm late to the game and on nameless puppet 😂. I'm gutted I didn't see you do a walkthrough for this as you were my go to for elden ring + dlc 😢. ❤
I’m so excited for this. Thanks for the review
can´t wait to play, hopefully they fix the bugs after the full release. thanks for the video dom
I'm near the end of the game, and I'm at 63 hours. People said it only takes 30 hours to beat, I have NO IDEA how that would be possible. I do try to get most items, but not near 100% more like 80-90%, so still not sure how it would be so short. Anyone else near this amount of time played?
Too slow and clunky enmies are absolute poise machines and ganks everywhere.
I hear there are summons you can call for help in a boss fight. Is that true?
Yep there are
yea. For now they are only AI but maybe they add coop in the future
Yes, but try to beat the bosses without summons, it just feels better. Summons feel out of place in this game
Yes there are, byt only main bosses, not mini-bosses. If you're unsure whether to buy - there's a free demo, so just try the demo to help you decide.
Yea. There is but weak ass summon sadly
I would not call it the best souls like game yet but its getting there i kustvmade it to area IV and im loving every bit of it
wow, so I can play this on game pass for pc.
A couple of questions:-
1) how good is quest tracking? quest tracking on Elden Ring was terrible.
2-5 everythings good. 1 what u expect from an open world rpg. U have to compare it with dark souls
Boss amulet increases the scaling of the legion arm, not its unlocked abilities according to other videos I watched. Wording seems a bit confusing, as I had though it unlocked abilities too.
subbed, this game looks incredible, thank you for the review
Got it? 🙌🏼
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS!!
I literally thought I just sucked at the game. Most bosses feel like fighting Malenia or Ornstein/smough for the first time... 3:50
He kicked my arse way more than I was anticipating lol
Really looking forward to this game. Bad timing though, it arrives next week while I am out of town. I just platinumed Sekiro yesterday so I am hoping that carries over to this game a bit.
I replayed sekiro 5 times, there is a little dejavu with the mechanical hand and movement, but it's not very similar, sekiro will forever be the best game I've ever played.
Good or not it's on game pass so I'll at least play it until we get some Elden ring dlc announcements
Regarding the performance, did Denuvo give you any trouble?
Also, how does it play on keyboard and mouse?
Thanks!
The amulet isn’t a “tier” like that it’s the scaling of the legion, easily misread or misunderstood, but I thought the same originally until a friend pointed it out
Game is fantastic but the bosses are a real pain, I'm still progressing though, I'm enjoying the game so much.
Looking forward to flitting between this and Starfield 😍 great review as usual Dom! 😊
I'm putting starfield to the side for now until they optimize it better. Lies of p runs amazing on my 4080. Starfields performance compared to this game is crap. My PC gets a workout running starfield and it shouldn't be with the quality of graphics.. Starfield is fun but they need to fix it.
@@jimmytimber7074 Tbh, Starfield has been pretty stutters on console today 🙄
Tuesday can’t get here soon enough for me..I was wondering if you could share the weapon combo that made The Cyrus Montana you were rocking the other day lol
Love your review ❤ 👍can't wait to buy this beautiful challenging game
It's crazy that you're not doing Baldurs gate 3 vids. Ride the algorithms wave.
I’ve never r ally played a souls like before and this game is a masterpiece. The setting, combat, choices etc. game is phenomenal
Go play dark souls 3 thats the masterpiece
Is it just me or is this the best optimized game for PC this year. I can't believe the performance I'm getting.
Being honest about “Lies” of P😏
I'm only two hours in, but the game seems easier than any souls-like game I've played so far.
I saw the deluxe edition would allow me to play early and bought it didn’t wanna wait til Monday and I regret nothing
can one level up before bosses? Or is it like Sekiro/AC6 where one is really stuck with what one has?
I grinded because I wasn't strong enough for the first boss and it worked, I kept doing it and am able to progress.
@@Atëris87 that's good to hear :-) thank you
Hopefully, you let the developers know about the boss reward items being bugged and all the other issues you had.
They aren't bugged. He just didn't understand the way those work
Can you please tell me if you can turn off the HUD ?
Yes you can.
Absolutely love this game. Im 8 hours in its top notch totally worth playing.
this is exactly what I keep telling people Yes the look is souls like but it has a different feel because it's a different game made by a different company... you got to git gud and learn those mechanics
So any good or as good as we hoped. Maybe decide ;-) Two are mutually exclusive ;-)
I ran into a big mid fight with the white lady and it was like I was a ghost she stop fighting but I couldn't hit her
I've found a few amulets that have bugs all have been from bosses. Also one thing I really hate is in this game my first attack can be 129 than my next be 549 like what the fuck is up with that
Did they fix the iFrames and parry timing windows?
The parry timing is pretty tight. Sekiro parry timing is more forgiving. Sekiro is still the more difficult game though imo.
I think its even better than expected
Exactly.
Wait…no gimmick bosses? What the heck is the Door Guardian? 😂 That’s a gimmick boss if I’ve ever seen one. Not a bad thing, it’s just that ever souls game seems to have one or two of them.
Lies of P: is the best souls like
Upcoming Lords of the fallen: Hold my beerl
Nah
I love the aesthetic though so I’m just gonna have to get back on the demo and practice.
players like us have to wait till lords of the fallen. thats our DS4
Utilize the perfect guard system - it’s essential. In the same vein, I’d recommend leaning towards heavier blades as they provide a better guard resistance (essentially how much chip damage you receive on a normal block)
Note that even normal blocking with heavy blades is certainly a viable strategy due to a similar system to Bloodbornes “rally” where you can regain health after blocking by quickly attacking. You can also upgrade how much health you get back thru upgrades to the P organ
There is a notable lack of a poise mechanic, making using heavy weapons more difficult. However, due to the blade / handle system, you can put a high guard resistance blade on a high Dex handle (such as a rapier or glaive) for the best of both worlds.
Amazing game so far I’m 10 hours in and it’s def challenging I feel the perfect guard is a little tighter than in the demo or it must be me The lore environments and enemies are awesome
is the gameplay play the same like dark soul or harder
@@stevenjohnson8736You can definitely compare it to dark souls and it's pretty hard as well. At some points it was a bit harder but overall doable if you are a veteran
@@stevenjohnson8736Its not like Dark Souls, uts a mix between Bloodborne and Sekiro
Ive played the demo and i really liked it. But i have to ask, is the dodge the same as the demo?
Dodge has a few extra frames now and the parry timers are tighter than they used to be, both are effective, takes a bit of getting used to
Good to know, personally i didnt liked the dodge, and i played a few souls games myself. I'll still wait for a sell and give it a go then
This game is really really good!!! I’m loving it !!!
Motivity or technique?
bah... i need money... watching this wants me having this game so badly...
game pass is $10 amonth, and you get starfield as well. less than a cup of coffee a week.
@@viciousfish6145 i cant even buy cigarettes right now... :)
I absolutely hate the speared enemies. they are my arch nemesis lol
I don’t think they do a good job with the two phase bosses. Just give us more difficult one phase bosses. Or have phase 2start at half health or something
You read it wrong it give you better scaling with stats unequip it check you legion arm then re equip it and look at the scaling go up
Been playing since 9 pacific time last night
Is there a character creator, or do we have to play as the Femboy?
You are Timothée Chalamet, the young French Willy Wonka 😆
Souls likes are always harder than true from soft games and since they are always a little bit clunky too I never finish them. Thankfully this is on game pass so I can try it risk free!!
Most of them aren't very good in my opinion. Code vain had potential but it was just boring, and nioh its fun but not that good.
Wo Long was fun enough for me to finish the game.
@@NuclearAbyss "nioh its fun but not that good."
My intentions are far from starting some kind of idiotic and pointless flame thread, or personally attacking you for only god knows what reasons.
Lies of P is nowhere near Nioh 2 for me.
this first Demo Boss wasn't enjoyable at all, I really hope the finished game do better with dodging, hit boxes etc
It's exactly the same gameplay as the demo.
@@SHwoKing Nope the hitbox, dodge frame and parry frames are changed
Andreus was the hardest boss for me
this game looks so amazing
Is an incredible game!
The door guard boss is gimmick boss
Then you missed on one of the best games of all time for having a simple mind .. I feel bad for you
Yeah you did miss a lot. Eldin has some bloodborne elements and places to it. You are really missing out on something epic which we might never experience again
Gamepass we winning
This might be a gamepass game ill actually go buy just to support the developers
I want to like this game but the controls just seem so slooow.
P organ was a bit stiff
the game felt like something new after the 3rd boss to me, at first it feels like another souls wanna be
Its in the Gamepass, means it would be mediocre like all the shit in the Gamepass.
Would rather pay 70 dollars for 100 garbage games then pay 80 dollars for the 3rd remaster of the last of us
They probably will put out a day one patch when it officially drops. Hopefully a dev sees this video about the bug.
We just like Souls man. Sometimes that's all it takes to scratch that itch.
Nothing really creative than previous souls? so basically dark souls sequels and ER, the same formula with small tweaks, and we love them for that.
@@zinAab79 well darksouls are darksouls theyre same franchise, but ER has massive improvement than previous souls, the openworld, world building, build variety are massive.. Lies of p is just like playing another same soulslike or even downgraded than previous souls with a bit of gimmick, it just boring man. Look at wukong, the graphic, the nature placement are so artistic (elden ring also has art in their world), the fighting also look incredible, the bosses, kungfu tiger etc look awesome, also look at lord of the fallen concept switching between world are so fresh and appealing. This game is just overhyped.
I still think the game is lacking in life, there isn’t a lot of enemies around same complaint from the demo
Exactly why it's not meshing with me. I don't understand why nobody is calling that out. Everything is just so empty.
" I experienced no clunkyness with the combat"
Sincerely no offense ment but...how can you say this for a game with 0 recovery frames and poor dodge ?( unless you upgrade it later on after half the campaign) .
On performance everyone is a fair 30 fps, you and the bosses.
i would appreciate it if you had gave it a score out of 10 cause you could rate it at 7 and still say it's good
Monday
Not worth playing at all. It’s the same old same old in souls like games. It’s a bs take. So much potential and they make it impossible to do anything unless you go back and forth killing the same people to get ergo
this game is literally no where near the best souls like game ever created xD thats just dishonest or you have literally played no other souls like games.
