Joe felt guilty and responsible for Marty's death, which resulted in his breakdown after that job at the hotel. He was a friend of Joe, who had not much to do with gang life and mob (beside taking out greasers).

I was damn sure Joe didnt die in Mafia 2. He lived upto Mafia 3 timeline. I was sure of it the moment i saw that fat and well built man showing his face for a quite long time in the Mafia 3 cutscene with Leo galante. In the end, Joe ended up working for Leo. Joe Barbaro. ❤❤❤

My guess is that they knew Joe and Vito were both good men, but they didn’t work well together. Separately they’re great, but put them together and they always get into trouble. So they probably made the decision to keep them alive, but keep them apart

I still miss Paulie :( During the last bounty hunting mission in Mafia 3 I don't think it was confirmed if Joe was alive or not. I know it was something with him moving in with some friends from Colorado and they end up kicking his ass to death and because you killed the last guy it meant that Joe was dead? I hope there is more clarification on that...
Yeah Vito says he went to Chicago and hid but the guys he was with turned on him and killed him but Vito also says the body was too mutilated to recognize him so it could’ve been someone else with a similar build and with no recognizable face Vito just assumed that it was joe, also someone in another comment mentioned how joe and Vito always ended up in some trouble so the mob could’ve faked his death to keep them apart to minimize problems in the long term

I got a question for the hardcore mafia fans who played the first one in 2002 and were playing through mafia 2 the first time. Did anyone suspect that Joe and vito were the ones who killed Tommy? Because although in mafia 1 it looks nothing like vito, joe does look very similar

for my first time of mafia 2 i was on the chapter i saw the car i know it somewhere then i saw greenfield the house from tommy i took a closer look then i know what happened but still was sad it was like wait i know this car i arrived greenfield whait i know the location then i look to joe vito then i know it it was tommy then cutscene start mr angelo
i had my doubts but i tought maybe its just a joke from developers but when i saw a car i was like "ok this is a bit weird" and when Joe said that they gotta kill someone who ratted out his family i just went "oh...oh no"
It was awesome the way they did it. I only really became a fan of the series when the remake came out. Back in the day I was more interested in gta and saints row but now I’m older, I prefer the mafia games
I didn't expect to see it. I played Mafia 2 and thought it looked familiar. I wondered why so I looked up the ending and yeah, they remade the ending to Mafia 1 as a mission. Which was kind of cool. Doubt they had the intention from the beginning, so during 2 I wonder who and when decided to do it. Who thought..."You know Joe and Vito? Yeah let's make them the fat guy and the skinny guy from the first game's end, the ones that kill Tommy."

Man vito and Joe's friendship/duo Is the best in any video game. When joe showed up at the end of mafia 3, it almost brought a tear to my eye. I could never kill vito in mafia 3, it just isnt right.
My choice was to give everything to Vito in Mafia 3, which apparently is the correct choce? Idk, I went back after the credits each time and went through all 3 endings, but giving the keys to Vito just always seemed like the correct choice.

@@jet-fury Vito and Joe got separated at the end of Mafia 2, because they were too dangerous together, it was Leo Galante that did it, then he told them both that the other one wasn't part of the plan, leading to Vito thinking Joe is dead and Joe thinking Vito died
Tommy’s death still upsets me especially even more in the remake but at least he was with his family in his final moments

One of the few times, a remake is good. Sure, Tommy surviving the shotgun to the chest is a tad unrealistic, but we got to see his family and him telling that it's alright now

What I never got is he says we got through the war, but Tommy was in jail starting in 1938, and he said he stayed in jail for 8 years, ending his sentence in 1946, a year after WW2 ended

mafia 3 was so good in story acting and gameplay, so fun from start to end. and the main guy get to be a big kingpin for decades to come if you choose that ending. the other two didnt get that.

Joe Barbara was my friend in the whole mafia series and in all the games, he was the only one with whom I had fun, I was behind the game for hours and I liked him very much, the best friend in the whole game world😭😭😭🖤
Joe is a very charismatic hero... it's that moment, when secondary character attracts you more than main hero. I was very very sorry, when in the end of Mafia 2 Joe's car drove away in another direction.... to the death 😭

I don't remember the exact date, but Mafia II is cannon, and when You complete it, You can read the "family diary". There, says that Joe Barbaro was born somewhere in the 1920's, and Mafia takes place in 1930, wich means joe would be around 2-10 there.

Something that I find really quite interesting is that they use the same Tommy Angelo death scene in both Mafia 1 and 2. Like even though Mafia 1 is taking place in and around 1935 and Mafia 2 1945-1951...
From Mafia 1 you see Tommy's perspective and what led to his death and in Mafia 2 you see Vito and Joe's perspective to why specifically THEY end up killing him.

I love how characters appear in other games and it just makes people say "Wait hes in this game too?"
I played the games the complete opposite way, so I didn’t get all the cool twists and turns, but I skipped every cutscene my first play through so replaying them the right way and seeing the story unfold was just as satisfying
