    I was at this show. ProgPower USA in Atlanta. My first time seeing Floor live, and my first time realizing how tall she is when we talked for awhile and I got a picture with her. After Forever is a really great and under rated band.

    After Forever was the first band Floor joined in 1997 at age 16. The band broke up in 2009, and she formed ReVamp. Nightwish called her in 2012.
    After Forever was co-founded by Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen (mark and Floor are not related). Mark left in 2002 and formed EPICA. Dreamflight is from their 5th , and final, self titled album in 2007. Watch the live video for "Monolith of Doubt" from 2002 ,you'll see a 21 year old Floor.

    I read where Tuomas, from Nightwish, had said that Floor was on his short list to directly replace Tarja back in 2007 but he did not want to be the cause of the breakup of After Forever - the two bands had toured together in the early 2000's so he was well aware of her talents

    Floor joined After Forever aged just 16. This wonderful performance by Floor was released when she was just 26 and demonstrated what was to come. Now we all wait for the new Nightwish album with the beautiful mature voice of a 43 year old magical Floor.

    When the founder of Epica, Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor), left After Forever around 2002, Floor became the primary lyricist for the band. She has writing credit on this song.

    After Forever was Floor’s first band. Revamp was her band right before Nightwish. You can certainly understand why Nightwish wanted her.

    Correct... After Forever was the Dutch band Floor Jansen joined as a teen in the 90's. They released a string of albums before Floor's now-ex Sanders Gommans split the band up around 2009 just as After Forever finally had a US release - their 2007 self-titled album (He had the rights to the After Forever name, so Floor couldn't continue the band)... Sanders Gommans married another standout female metal vocalist Amanda Sommerville... Floor formed the band ReVamp in 2010 and released 2 albums (1 before and 1 after joining Nightwish) and married Sabaton drummer Hannes Van Dahl.
    After Forever never reformed... they have 5 studio albums:
    'Prison of desire' (2000)... 'Decipher' (2001) ... 'Invisible circles' (2004) ... 'Reimagine' (2005) and 'After Forever' (2007)
    Floor has since released a solo album as well as a project Northward in 2018 w/ Pagan's Mind guitarist Jorn Viggo Lofstad.

    After Forever was founded in 1995 as a death metal band. In 1997 they hired Floor as a backing singer. At that time she had just discovered that she wanted to be a singer and had not yet had any singing lessons. When they released their first album in 2000, they had become a symphonic metal band and Floor was the lead singer. She was involved in songwriting at the time. On the first album she can be heard without any singing lessons. In 2007, the international breakthrough came with "Energize me" and at the same time the end of the band. The last founder falls seriously and long-term ill and breaks up the band. Frustrated, Floor forms the band ReVamp, which is later destroyed by Nightwish:

    th-cam.com/video/nXjBEfFOSVI/w-d-xo.html
    The growler in the video is the second founder Mark Jansen (who is not related to Floor). He will later leave the band and, after a false start, form Epica with his girlfriend, which you have already heard:

    The red haired guitar player/growler Mark Jansen is also the composer for Epica. He wrote Sancta Terra. th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FiOPt-27z0GbWpAW
    Epica's soprano lead singer is Simone Simons, you met her singing in Ayreon The Day that.... Simone had a role in The Electric Castle etc. an Ayreon opera where she plays the Indian candidate for a survival contest . She fails with a haunting wail, trapped by growling death spirits, of which one is..... Mark Jansen.

    Here's the timelines:
    After Forever 1997 - 2009, but on hiatus from 2008. Disbanded due to internal dissent. There was no longer any will to continue to perform together. Her breakup with Sander Gommans (the harsh vocalist in this song) no doubt contributed.
    ReVamp 2009 - 2016, Floor's creation which she disbanded in 2016 as she could not continue with both ReVamp and Nightwish. This band had the heaviest sound of the three, where by the second album, Floor was performing the harsh vocals.
    Nightwish 2012 - to the present. Note the overlap with ReVamp. She continued to tour with ReVamp after joining Nightwish, but in the end she couldn't support two bands and chose Nightwish.

    Some gossip: the growling guy, Sander, was her boyfriend at that time, but he cheated on her with their vocal coach and that was at least partly the reason why After Forever disbanded.
    If you come across some songs of the band she started after After Forever, Revamp, you can hear a lot of anger and depression in her songs, all because what happened in After Forever. Even in the project she released in 2018, "Northward", you still can hear the resonance, e.g. in the songs "Big Boy" and " When love died"

    • @janmaule606
      @janmaule606 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gosssips are just gossips, it is not good to take them as granted. Floor and Sander were not partners from the beginning of 2007 but they were able to continue in a band as a friends (both of them said so).
      Northward was a project from 2008 during the hiatus and at that time Floor tried to convince Sander not to quit in the active career in music industry. I think that their relationship got worse during that time. The release date 2018 doesnt mean that the lyrics are actual.

    • @zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614
      @zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@janmaule606 That is why gossip is gossip 🙂but it is a fact that they had the same vocal coach, Amanda Somerville, and that he cheated on Floor with her (Sander and Amanda married in 2014). So when Floor found out that he had a different interpretation of rehearsing with the vocal coach she was not happy. This must have had consequences for the future cooperation, specially when you have to share a stage after what happened (there were other factors as well).And yes she started writing from 2007 on what would be Northward in 2018, but if you think during that ten years that the lyrics are not relevant anymore, there is time enough to change them, which she didn't.

    • @janmaule606
      @janmaule606 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614 well, we know that the band worked with Amanda from 2004. I never saw anything about cheating Floor outside of gossips. Of course everything is possible. And both of them said when asked, that the end of dating was maybe tough but not really bad.
      The lyrics in WLD are IMHO influenced by Sanders decision to leave AF which had a terrible effect on Floor. I think that those feeligs did not change much so there was no reason to change.
      But nobody except them knows for sure.

    • @noneofyerbeeswax8194
      @noneofyerbeeswax8194 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gossip is just gossip. Here’s some 💯% real facts:
      It all goes back to the time when Fleur and Smoony Simonyan studied astrology at an observatory in Tilburg, Holland. They also went to the same school, of course, because Dutchmark is so tiny, there’s only one school there. People say they were roommates, but this is incorrect. In actual fact, they lived together in a summervilla, when they were taking singing lessons with a renowned vocal coach Ahmandha Whatshername from the United States of Armenia. Rumour has it, they were a little more than just friends... It all came to an end when Smoon started dating Fleur’s brother Mark. The VG got.. ähm… mildly upset about it, and that’s why he got kicked out of AF.😁
      Sander didn’t know any of this until 2007. Poor guy…
      In 2008, he posted a few things on the (now inactive) AF forum. Namely, that they had problems with Transmission Records, or more specifically, one Hans van Vuuren who had bankrupted his company and sold the rights to his wife, so he could keep them and do whatever he wanted to with all their material except the last (2007) album. They didn’t get paid for “Remagine” or any of the compilations and re-issues that came out afterwards, and weren’t allowed to record a live DVD. The break they took in 2008 was mostly due to this, and it looks like Sander’s decision to end the band (which Floor was opposed to) had a lot to do with this as well.
      That’s all I know.

    After Forever was a remarkable band in the symphonic metal scene of 2000´s. Less polish and rougher sound than Nightwish. Similar to Epica but less classical influenced. When they disbanded in late 2000s Floor founded Revamped which was a very follow up of After Forever concept. Then Nightwish parted ways with Annette and the rest is history.
