Lyrics:
They won't know who we are
So we both can pretend
It's written on the mountains
A line that never ends
As the devil spoke we spilled out on the floor
And the pieces broke and the people wanted more
And the rugged wheel is turning another round
Dorian, carrion,
Will you come along to the end
Will you ever let us carry on
Swaying like the children,
Singled out for praise
The inside out on the open
With the straightest face
As the sad-eyed woman spoke we missed our chance,
The final dying joke caught in our hands
And the rugged wheel is turning another round
Dorian, carrion,
Will you come along to the end
Will you ever let us carry on
Dorian, carrion,
Will you come along to the end
Will you ever let us carry on

Dark introduced me to Agnes and I'm forever grateful. Absolutely beautiful, ethereal music.
Me too, now i like all songs of Agnes Obel.
Yeah. Same here.
Me tooooo!
If you like Agnes, check out Soley. Another similar kind of artist.
YES, thanks to the series Dark, I too came to hear of Agnes! I'm a fan!
In France we say "The true tradition is not to do what we did. But to find this spirit, which did these things and which would do others, in other times." Paul Valéry.
you have found this spirit, thank you.
I played this song for my friend’s 5 year old daughter, and afterwards the daugther asked me to replay “the beautiful, wonderfull music”. Then she started to dance, just waving her arms and turning calmly around with closed eyes ❤️
So beautiful 🦋
free spirit allowed the space..to show its beauty in all her grace
magic... all musicians are magicians... thank you for sharing that beatiful memorie... it will endure until the end... you are very blessed...
She feld it.
That’s adorable, my younger sister is terrified of her music
These session pieces are sublimely beautiful and Agnes as ever is simply hypnotic, but Anne and Mika are simply stunning and are the perfect complement to Agnes' sparse piano and vocal. Cannot praise them enough - these three were born to play together
I can't help being moved and shivering when she says "Dorian"
Anges, your soul is too deep for the physical realm. You are a goddess, a messenger and a poet.
2020 under isolation... found peace with this music.
Same 👍
Same!
Me too!!!
Extroverts. xd
@@quandmeme9970 Im not even haha, I can go out without meeting people. I just like the ability to walk around rather than being at home... but i have this blasting at home and makes me chill
Agnes Obel: ‘Dorian’ is about the inter-relational thing between two people, that you can’t put words on but you know is there. And when you reach the point of no return, and you are sort of swaying, or are suspended, into this weird space of nothingness, and you are still longing for all the good stuff that you had before. ‘Dorian’ is sort of my construction of that state of mind. Nobody outside this bubble of these two people can see it, so it looks really pretty and great but then if you step into this ring, you see that it’s all sort of falling apart and rotting. I felt like Dorian was such a beautiful name and… for me, I like to make out my own meaning for a word, imply my own stories to words or names, so in the back of my mind, of course, I knew about Dorian Gray but it was not deliberate or about that character. I am sure it coloured it but it wasn’t about it.
Tapati Bandopadhyay Thank you for this💜☮️
Beautifully said
Have you read the picture of Dorian Gray? If not do so. It's very beautiful.
Nice words and really true...
It could just as easily be about metaphysics, about the story of humanity. How when the devil spoke we all spilled out on the floor, f.i. Maybe Agnes is clairvoyant or has such insights?
Chills. Chills at the depth of sound coming out of this room with only 3 women in it. True beauty.
Sheer perfection of performance, real artistry x
@@zito8284 You wouldn't see or hear anything if cameraman wasn't the man.
free nostalgia ticket 😉
Both Agnes and the backup singer have beautiful voices.
This song is hauntingly beautiful. I get goosebumps every time. It's such a relief to find that there's good music in the world still.
A relief indeed.
but how can something be haunting and beautiful at the same time.
Plenty of great music around eg LP, Low, The National, London Grammar, First Aid Kit, Bat for Lashes , The Kills, Daughter etc etc
"amethyst" by Low has the same vibe as this track
@@keithbate9405 yeh London grammar has a different but similar vibe.
Agnes is an underrated artist, she got pure talent.
who is underrating her? have you read the comments?
I am in awe about the beauty of it all.
Not a single note was played to harsh nor to soft nor unnecessarily.
Perfect song writing, perfect performance.
And the way your voices harmonize belongs to the best things my ears have ever heard.
if music had a literature section, this would be it
Three persons... one room... creating art... so simple... so difficult... so beautiful!
💕
The emotion in this set is outstanding, the silence at the end, then her nervous smile of accomplishment, gets me every time.
Ten years have gone by, and I still remember the day this song came out. I can recall the exact feelings it stirred up the first time I listened to it. Even though those initial emotions have changed, there's something about it that always brings out new feelings I can't quite explain. The part where she says "Dorian" still gets me every time. I don't know what's so special about this song, but after a decade, I'm still not tired of it. My MP3 player has played it thousands of times already.
I've always thought I could recognize special people, but I never felt like I was one of them. I've been ignored and denied so many times in my life. There were tough moments when the only thing I had was music.
I just wish I could have a life and people around me like this song, something that's always been there for me.
i feel you. love comments like yours!
the smile at the end of this video...."yes, we did it! This is wat we intended it to be!" That makes this video complete! Wonderfull, wonderfull music!
This music has grace, beauty and real depth - why have I only just found this?
One of the most beautifully balanced and earnest songs I have ever heard. For me this is a form of eternal inspiration.
*Beautifully. . . poetically ecapsulated Truth!* 🎶🌟🎶
Words can not explain how perfect this is. Love to see her in concert.
I had the good fortune of seeing her live in San Francisco at the Independent before 2020 and she was amazing. Whole set was magical and ethereal. She brought great cello players with her. I had the most incredibly vivid dreams all night afterwards. Have never had that experience before and I’d worked concerts for years.
It is interesting how 7.7 Million people listen to this and why? It is ART!
Agnes etc came up with a sound which speaks to some of us. Thank you Agnes. I am German / American and my mothers name was Agnes. Unfortunatly killed in WW2 at my age 1 1/2. This sound brings back this memory. That and your beautiful music makes me listen to you over and over.
I've been listening Agnes Obel for years, and i really like this song. When i reading "The Picture of Dorian Gray" suddenly this song came to my mind. I don't know if there are any relations between them. But still this song takes me away for a while every time i listen.
I thought about it too. That book is as good as this song
Hauntingly poetic. First time I heard this song it brought me to tears; such a talented pianist. Sending love your way Agnes, now and always💞🙏🏽
Have I been living under a rock?!!! Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats the same way i felt bro. Her music is spiritual
That's so saxicolous of you
I’ve been under the rock next to you🤔
July 2020 - damn rock!
The Tambre of these instruments sounds incredible. Exceptional touch from the musicians, incredible recording and mixing.

Such a beautiful song. I can listen to this over and over and over again. Forever and ever.
qtasabutton21 I can't. I get choked up every time. Reminds me of a certain someone. I don't know why I keep coming back here.
Since I first heard this song, it got right under my skin.. somehow in just one moment it become my all time favorite.. It's like I've been waiting for something that will touch me so very deep.. and I have finally found it.
I could not have put it better myself.
7 years later how the hell i never heard that before, i'm loving this
One of the best Pieces I ever heard
This is my favorite ever song. It elicits so many emotions - perfect for when you need to feel something.
+Onyx i know, it gets hard sometimes .
I've not been able to stop listening to this song for some months.
she plays really softly, it suits her voice and compositions ideally. I love listening to this version...
I will always remember the day I diwcovered Agnes Obel when her second album was released. Since this day she is my favorite singer and I think it will never change, because when I return to Dorian, I understand everything. She sings what I see.
How is it even possible to create something like this? Seriously?! This is live and so perfect that it hurts.
Practice.
Her smile and sigh at the end say it all. So touching.
This beautiful music stuns my soul and brings overwhelming tears to my eyes, every time. thanks Agnes. sublime.
keep coming back for this part 04:25 to end. Get chills every time.
Lost for words about how great this is.
Oh.My.Dear.God. Such a masterpiece. Absolutely perfect.
For once someone is singing my name... And I'm lucky, it's a great song ! :D
+Doriane .R I feel you man :D
You're lucky! It's an amazing name.
Haha I'm actually a woman :P
So I presumed. :) That doesn't make your name any less beautiful.
Thank you :) :)
My heart swells listening to her, especially this song. Love!
Every single time I listen to this, I feel the same emotions, I could go over end over again...simply magnificient !
Your voice is so hauntingly beautiful. The harmony between strings and piano is soooo fantastic. Thank you for posting this beautiful art here for me to find.
She is seriously just amazing.
Moira Russell they are 😊
The sincerity of this piece is killing me
Obel soothes any internal struggles... she's the calm before and after the storm ❤️
3 things.
this is magnificent.
i can't believe those lights are quiet enough to be in that room.
your music just put my dog to sleep during a thunderstorm. thank you.
I recenlty found out Agnes Obel music and I couldn´t be more surprised to find my three favorites musical instruments: piano, violin and cello in one single source of fine harmonics. Lyrics and voice are great complements.
this song is so profound. So eccentric and emotional. I think its one of the only songs that makes me feel something.

Elle est très belle, et sa voix m'hypnotise. Merci Agnes.
Every song from her is touching my heart and soul. Thanks for your music. I can't stop listing and i won't stop listing
Glorious, gorgeous music. I love Ms. Obel.
Well said !
This lady rocks like no other. I am a metal head but totally dig her vibe. awesome totally awesome.
