      Thank you. I use the wash method all the time on zombie skin and I'm always quite happy with how it turns out.

    Thanks very much! Seeing your videos about using Speed Paints to do your Cursed City set has really inspired me to go back and finish the parts of the set I never got to.

      It's always nice to get a complete set of something finished, and (most of) the miniatures in Cursed City are worth it. Thanks for watching.

    That paint job looks great!
    Your speedpaint videos have been really useful in deciding between GW’s contrasts and the new AP offering- in the end I went for speedpaints and I’m looking forward to experimenting with them this week, so thank you!
    If there’s one tiny thing I’d say having watched all your cursed city painting videos; I really think a quick drybrush over the stirland mud on the bases would make a world of difference to the models.
    A lighter brown or even a bone colour over the texture paint to give the bases a bit more depth would work wonders! I’m a big believer in basing having a disproportionately large impact on the end result of a model, that extra minute or two to make the bases pop is well worth it in my opinion.

      I do drybrush my bases. They aren't finished in the videos. I try to slap the texture paint on for the final shot, but as I said in the video, they aren't finished.

    I said it before, its the grave stones. they put grave stones on all of them and it really makes no sense. Roots poking out, yes. Coffin lids strap on to them by other for some level of shielding, I'll go with that. But... all zombies walking around with heavy grave stones on their backs, it's just silly when you put them all together. The paint job turn out great as always.

      @leipherd8118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. The gravestones make no sense. I've built half a pack of deadwalker zombies and been able to "fix" 2 of the zombies that are meant to have gravestones on. The others that stand upright are great - GW took their time replacing the comedy zombies they used to sell, but still managed to take a little of the shine off them with this design choice

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's GW's more is more approach. They just threw so much on top of the zombies they ruined some really good ideas (the stakes through the bodies and the little bells that would ring when they rise up).

    With Contrast or Speedpaints, mix a neutral grey with a light flesh colour 50/50 and dilute with medium, then add diluted blobs of purple and green in crevices and wounds = good zombie flesh

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which Speedpaints would you recommend? I've done various mixed of grey and flesh (with green) and haven't come up with anything I'm remotely happy with. I've messed around with different combinations of Holy White, Gravelord Grey, Crusader Skin, Hardened Leather, Pallid Bone, Orc Skin, and Malignant Green over grey, white, and necrotic flesh and haven't liked anything so far.

    • @Emloch
      @Emloch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Unfortunately, I don't use Speedpaints; I use Contrast paints. For a base; over white or grey (grey will obviously offer a more grey skin); I use Bisilicanum Grey and Guilliman flesh; roughly 50/50 mix diluted with medium (to lessen the strength of the colours and keep things pale). But you can play with the ratios, depending on the level of flesh vs grey you're looking for. Maybe try and match these colours with Speedpaint equivalents. Afterwards, I add heavily-diluted purples, blues, and reds around hands, feet, neck, eye sockets, wounds, etc, to give subtle variations in the skin tones. This really helps to sell the effect. Great videos, btw. Cheers!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay. The Speedpaints range is much smaller than the Contrast range right now (24 paints total including the medium), so I've been doing a lot of mixing. I might be able to come up with a recipe eventually, but I can't see Speedpaints producing something that I am happier with than the way I do zombies at the moment with the current range.

    Is it possible to get a List of which Colors you have used?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

      My zombie flesh recipe uses a white basecoat, then Reikland Fleshshade, Seraphim Sepia, Athonian Camoshade, and Agrax Earthshade. I don't have a list of all the other colours used in this video, but I show each paint as I use it.

    I used the malignant green mixed with crusader skin and medium (1:1:2) for pale zombies, or (2:1:1) for more sickly ones 😀 But your skin tone looked great.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that. Since painting the zombies I actually ordered some Malignant Green to experiment with. So far all I've done with it is put some on a colour swab and I thought it looked too bright and "limey" for zombie skin so it's good to hear you got good results with it.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for subscribing. For most things (and especially Speedpaints) I use Army Painter anti-shine spray-on varnish. For other miniatures I also have brush-on Anti-shine, Stormshield from Games Workshop, and a gloss varnish that I use for crystals and gems. I definitely wouldn't recommend a brush-on varnish for Speedpaints.

    I got my CC and played a couple of games. So it seems you always try to kill as much enemies so the rest gets driven off. Now since the rulebook doesnt mention anything- i cud just kill all the non champion units and then the stronger champion gets driven off, which is very lame imo.
    Do you have any house rules for putting wounds on enemies/ aiming directly at non champion units?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a video in my Cursed City playlist covering a few house rules I used. However, I think the game already encourages you to kill champions. If you are playing a hunt mission you have to kill the champions to score points, so the game actively forces you to get them - you want to cycle through champions as quickly as possible before night falls. Also, because the champions have additional wounds, they make it easier to score inspiration points on your inspiration rolls (and Jelsen specifically gets inspiration for killing champions). Also, once named villains turn up, like Torgillius, they actually prevent their group from being driven off until they have been defeated.

    • @StabSam
      @StabSam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Yeah its a lil bit true. But i changed the rules for the hunt because otherwise it takes way too long- i give 1 scorepoint for each unit and 2 for each hero villain, which makes for a good pacing.
      I guess later on it might be less "shit" but the level 0 hunt was just awful boring and took me like 4 - 5 hours as my first game.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The house rule I came up with was specifically to speed up the Hunt, which is pretty bad playing rules as written. It changes when and how enemies spawn, so they come at you every single turn. Then you don't need to adjust the pacing of the points as you constantly have something challenging you. I'm not a fan of house rules in general, but if you aren't enjoying the hunts, you might want to check it out.

    Looks great mate, as ways! I'm smashing my way though my set, following along! I don't have all the citadel washes, have all the army painter shades, any idea which ones to substitute for the citadel washes you use? I'll probably have a play around, as thees quite a few zombies! Looking forward to seeing how you paint the heroes 👍👍

      Thanks. I'm not really sure about doing zombie skin with Army Painter. You could probably do something with Flesh Tone, Soft Tone, and thinned Green Tone.

    • @NiteLynr
      @NiteLynr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Army Painter's Malignant Green SpeedPaint is a great base for zombie flesh. Just painted up a full Zombicide Night of the Living Dead box with it, using various other colours mixed in to lighten/darken the colours to add some variety.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually bought some Malignant Green after I painted the zombies for this video. It looked very bright when I tested it quickly but I need to do some more experimentation with it. Glad to hear it could be a good option for people using Speedpaints.

    • @NiteLynr
      @NiteLynr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring It is a little bright on it's own over a pure white base but it only takes a little bit of experimenting/mixing to come up with some fantastic zombie fleshtones that can be used to really quickly batch-paint a set of minis. What I tend to do is a few with one mix then add a drop of brown, yellow or grey to the existing mix then do another couple before adding another drop to the mix. That way, they're not all identical but there are subtle variations and they all have enough of a base to tie them together.

  • @johnmiddleton4291
    @johnmiddleton4291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The gravestones ruin it no matter how nice your skin tone is. I would have chopped them all off and used them on the bases.
    That's not even how gravestone actually work anyways.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I never really liked the Sisters even in 2nd ed. They always seemed like a totally extraneous army created entirely to move models. Guess that's true of lots of the armies though. I'm nut terribly excited to get them in the Imperium sub, though the penitent dude is a model I'd like to have for BSF that I never got around to buying.
