  • This video shows some features of my most recent project "Wunderpixel".
    ►More documentation: www.hackster.io/leohill/wunde...
    ►Hardware
    -64x32 LED-Matrix P5
    -NodeMCU with an ESP8266
-Self designed circuitboard with some shiftregisters and additional memory
    -5V 25W power supply
-You can see a picture of the hardware at the end of the video.
    ►Libraries
-NTPClient for synchronizing the clock. Link: github.com/arduino-libraries/...
    -Standart ESP and Arduino libraries
-I didn't use any library for displaying pictures on the matrix. In order to get the highest framerate I built up the signal myself.
    ►Included animations
    - 4 retro animations based on SNES Super Mario games (♥ still my favourite games ♥)
    - 3 different animations with "Bouncing Pixels"
    - 1 animation displaying the actual system status
    ►Games
    - Snake
    - Pong
    - Flappyball
    ►Implemented functions
    - drawing pictures and writing text from the android app
    - loading/saving pictures from/to the EEPROM
    - create animations using the saved pictures
    - web-synchronized clock
    - selecting pictures from gallery or take one with the camera
    - I also implemented a webserver in order to control the matrix with any device using a browser

Really great and beautiful work! Share it on more sites, this can be really a good thing for many. I will build my own as soon as you show us the shematics and got the parts! Hope you expand the software with more animations and fun stuff!

Very cool! Think you could drive 2 of those panels at 5-10FPS if the art is already drawn out? Thinking of attempting my own auto-changing LED arcade marquee to see if I can drive the cost down.

some kind of light guide layer to make the pixels square shaped would improve it so much.

I’m surprised your using the esp8266 for such nice animation. Very nice. Have you considered using and esp32?

I never worked with the esp32 yet. Maybe it well be part of a future project 😃

I just ordered a 64x64 one but I'm still unsure if I need a powersupply. Saw many people just using a Pi to power the panel but you used an external gpu. Is it a must or just better/safer?

  • @ShahZahid

created something similar myself recently, based on an esp32 and a 64x64 panel, i printed a grid and diffuser for it and it looks a hella lot better, instead of an app, i used an async web server, but will also implement an app for game controlls etc, so far i have implemented SPIFF/SD gif upload, Clock, Text, draw, lots of effects and templates which can be used as background, will add some sort of TH-cam, spotify etc API and some games in yhe future

Hi again, for additionnal memory, did you programmed them before with your hex image data? and i'm interresting by your pixel art generator exe. You probably make the better project i ever seen with matrix led panel and arduino

I generated the animation-images once with my pixel art generator. The android app includes these binary image files, so I can send them via wifi and store them on the eeprom.

    • @Gics187

The code of this project is useless without my custom hardware. But I will try to make a tutorial about how to controll the Matrix including some animation algorithms.

    • @thomaschanut7054
      @thomaschanut7054 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Gics187 well your animation is not on a for{} loop or something like this ? I'm interresting by your hardware too, do you use micro sd card for stocking animated mario ? By the way you do a very good work. How many time did you spend ?

    • @Gics187
      @Gics187  5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@thomaschanut7054 No you cant do these animations in a for loop if you want to use the esp8266. In order to ebable user interactions via Wifi or any other interface, you have to design some multithreading architecture.
Including the android app and processing software it took me a few month😂
