  • Wrinkles can really enhance ones carving by adding depth and details that will make it pop! In this 5 minute Friday I go over how I carve wrinkles on all of my work. AND yes, this time I made it under 5 minutes. LOL
    HAPPY CARVING!

This little detail is the technique i was missing on several carvings. Appreciate the little tutorial and demonstration.

Thank you for taking the time to record the videos you have done. I'm a terrible carver, but because of your videos I have decided to keep moving forward in the hobby. You've mad carving fun for me and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you again.

We all started somewhere! Think of each carving as a learning experience for the next one. And thank you for the kind words. Encourages me to keep making more!

This is a fantastic tutorial on adding wrinkles! I use the same method of curling/twisting the knife to make more realistic wrinkles. I like to observe real folds and wrinkles on people's clothes. It really adds an element of realism to one's pieces, even if they might be caricatures. Thanks, Van, for sharing your skill and talents with us! :-)

Just discovered your channel about a week ago and I must say that I sure enjoy your videos.
The wrinkles you show is something I never thought about. Your technique is great. Thank you. Wish you were in Tennessee, I would sure take your classes.

Well, it certainly pays to watch videos from different craftsmen. Your technique for adding wrinkles to a carving is absolutely brilliant. So much nicer than taking small chips out of the wood... Yes, it took a tiny amount of time to get the hand position correct, as well as the rotation of the blade, but MAN O MAN! once it clicked! My carvings just took a giant step up in quality... THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

Really cool. I noticed these on a carving from a previous video and was wondering how you did that. Thanks for sharing.

Real good tip. Something I have not thought of before. Your knife is really sharp. How do you sharpen & maintain that edge on your knives? Thanks.

Buffing your tools will help a lot.

Thanks for your advice Van. I am relatively new to carving. I am thinking that stropping & buffing are two different things. A buffing she’ll is a tool I will have to acquire. Thanks again.
