I would use the £100,000 to buy a flat or apartment or semi detached this is possible in Scotland I would rent it out and use the £800 to £1,100 per month in rental income to hire a motorhome for 2-week trips whenever I grew tired of camping. I would sell the property to recoup my initial investment plus some profit. Another option is buying an overpriced campervan, using it for a few years, then selling it at a significant loss. Personally, I would go with the rental property plan to generate ongoing income . Ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

it does indeed - at this price point though you really need to be using them a lot. We average a weekend away every three weeks and longer trips 5-6 times per year so we make the use that justifies ownership although we are not going to be spending £100k on the next one!

Did consider a new motorhome ourselves recently after owning various caravans in the past. New ones started around £70k and even 2 to 3 year old's where not much less. Couldn't justify the annual cost though when taking into account depreciation, storage cost, road tax, servicing, insurance and the hidden cost of loss of interest on savings or financing cost. Reckon on a £100k motorhome you are looking at around £20k annual cost and even if used 10 weeks per year it's £2k per week before even paying the site fees which have gone up massively since we last had a caravan 5 years ago.

You explain well the various costs and its really why we are not going that far up the price bands…. I just wanted to see what the money got you and the reality is some of these were half that price not that many years back… the market has some sorting out to do. :)

Buy a 30/35k hymer at no more than 20 years old. You will lose far less. And you won't get the hassle of a new motorhome. Just look how much the same model was just 4/5 years ago. Those that bought then can either get their money back or quite close. I'd hate the idea that someone had used their van then sold to me for either no cost or little cost to them. Don't buy one with underslung gas tanks as garage forecourts are starting to do away with LPG in favour of EV charging points ( much more profits).

And !! The sales rep WONT tell you this even though they know it is fact. ( LPG ! )

We went looking last year at the Adrea and burstner. We were sadly not impressed with the finish and quality.
We have a 2020 pilote 740 fgj auto at the moment now priced at £ 82000 new.
The Adrea was £ 110000, the floor was very spongy , a winch screw coming through the headlining ? Some edging coming away .
The Burstner also had a very soggy floor. I do wonder if the floors are the same as those from pilote who also had floor problems.
We full-time in our motorhome and inside and out has stood up very well, also the ambience is more homely than burstner and Adrea.

Your motorhome model range looks nice. We currently in an Auto-Trail Tracker and have had a Bailey too. Jamie really likes the Adria but just a lot of money… Not really explored the Burstner range much. How you finding full time living?

@@thetrackertravels hello we sold up in the UK and France 4 years ago. Had enough doing the same thing week in week out. We are retired now and owned motorhomes for years.
Absolutely love the life, we stay off campsites , we use solar and lithium batteries and inverter.
      Refillable gas helps.
At 71 I will try to keep going until 76 and then decide to carry on or rent a property. Many more are going full time.
We had a lovely place in France but as in the UK it was either gardening etc.
We have seen and travelled more in 4 years than we could ever have imagined.

I was going to say that I'll wait 15 years and pick it up then but given the government's approach to diesel, it willl be banned from the road by then.

Auto trail at that price is a rip-off and if dealers think that is OK then watch how many go bust in the next 2 years.
Frankly, you might as well get a good spec caravan with more space for £35K and a decent towcar (Hyundai Santa Fe etc £40K). You've saved yourselves THOUSANDS and can leave your van on site or on farmer's field and go for days out in your car, rather than having to move the motorhome to travel anywhere from site. Stick an awning on it and you have treble the space and you've probably STILL saved £30K....

It's true if you don't want to to use Aires in Europe or don't mind staying on campsites. We full-time in a motorhome and can save money by staying off sites
