Do we really like this? | SWIFT TREKKER | PRACTICAL CAMPER at £73,700 | Motorhomes in 2024
มุมมอง 1.4Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Well in short - yes we do! This is a smart, practical and modern camper from Swift and offers not only an alternative to their mainstream but also a competitor to the likes of the Bailey Endeavour. Our honest view is that whilst the Swift and Bailey offerings by layout, size, base vehicle and function are very similar on paper, they likely serve different buyers in the market. Would you agree? ...
SWIFT WARRANTY WORK | BAILEY ENDEAVOUR and ELDDIS AUTOQUEST 155 get a little look | DON AMOTT
มุมมอง 1.3K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
We have owned our Swift Escape 694 for a couple of months now and 500 miles in we have just two snags for warranty. There was an issue with the habitation door frame - the catches/stays on the frame would not stay in place as we could not adjust the bolts as they were hidden behind the fly screen unit. Also a small panel under the cupboards had dropped and this needed repairing. Two months in -...

What can £25,000 to £30,000 get you when looking at a pre-loved motorhome? How new can you get from a main and independent dealer? We have found a good selection out there from the forecourts backed by the dealers that are of quality, in good condition and well cared for - often with a reasonably low mileage too! A few months ago i was chatting to someone in withernsea who had bought the same model two weeks previous. Said he will only keep 18 months maximum as the build quality was too poor for a full time live in van.

      @thetrackertravels 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting point that. I can understand that for a full time van maybe not robust enough… but they are not primarily designed for that and guess that’s why so many have bespoke panel vans scratch built inside for this reason. The build on our new Escape is pretty decent but full time is not the one we would choose.

    I think buyers will start ti find what few more older vans with main dealers as some.of the dealers will be struggling to trade out of stuff as the trade buyers are full and bit buying or bidding low so spme dealers will ne retailing older vans to get deals on newer ones done. Worth noting that most dealersnuse insurance backed warranties which won't cover damp on coachbuilts of that age so worth looking for a dealer who warranties the van themselves and will cover water ingress

    • @thetrackertravels
      @thetrackertravels 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you - good points and appreciated. Our experience of buying our new one was a low-ball part-ex offer at one of the largest dealers against a new one and even a suggestion that we sell privately. We did not deal with them this time as got a better deal and part-ex elsewhere - but the offers on part-ex varied around circa £8-9k.. another dealer was wanting to trade out the part-ex and again low, so they offered a ‘cash top up’ to get a deal across the line - its very competitive and variable out there. Yes the water ingress is a very good point too - hence me saying about taking care with warranties.

    I think it's weird that they've given the portable sonos speaker its own cavity to sit in. Can you explain their thinking?

    • @thetrackertravels
      @thetrackertravels 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I can’t answer for their thinking other than a place to charge thats dedicated. Firstly, I am pleased that a manufacturer has moved on from the old ‘car stereo’ install - was about time for a changing buyer profile and tech savvy buyers, but conversely, my concern here is that this is designed around this Sonos unit. Tech changes and the caravan will likely outlive the tech - so what happens when you upgrade the speaker or in 5 years time the speaker is missing when the caravan is traded on? It’s a positive move but perhaps did more thought about this as they roll out across other ranges and motorhomes.

    • @nssimpson
      @nssimpson 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thetrackertravels my thoughts exactly. It didn't need its own space because it's portable after all. Seems like they've done a weird deal with Sonos. If the cradle somehow allowed the device to hook in with speakers dotted around the van and allowed a TV's sound to go through the system then maybe it makes sense. None of that is true.

    Read all the thread on so far . Just because users and potential customers don’t run dealerships , it doesn’t mean that they don’t have an idea about what the market is doing and where it’s heading. The MH prices are ridiculous. They have been for the last 18-24 months, driven by demand . It’s abundantly clear the market is in “ Reset” which means painful losses to both buyers & sellers. Am currently on a CCC site , it’s half empty the weathers superb . The prices are ridiculous for basic 1970s facilities. The whole industry needs to be more attractive to people on a real living wage and not reliant on baby boomers whose spent their money on over inflated prices.

      Thank you. Agree… we watch with interest as motorhoming is a big part of way of life, we are out regular weekends, tours and weeks away and hope to have many more years doing this as we are in our 40’s. So trying to understand what is happening is important - I am no expert, but find this stuff interesting. I have been talking about the need for reset and rebalance for months and could see this needing to come and there is something afoot in pricing, like there has been with caravans. Also, sites are variable in uptake at the moment, we see them rammed and we see them quite empty - price does play a factor here. Just hoping this stuff is helpful for folk.

    • @thetrackertravels
      @thetrackertravels 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be fair prices rocketed across 2020/21 for obvious reasons. Increased costs of cabs and demand from manufacturers with production delays due to the chip issue all had an effect and this was passed on with motorhomes across 2021/22 and they not come down. It’s not that they have been ramped up no w to reduce, they are being brought back down to a level but its taking time especially for the used ones - it is happening though. It’s worth noting that the market is rebalancing and adjusting again.

    How are part exchange and sale to dealer prices holding up? I would expect this to be the first indicator of how dealers are seeing the future market. Are dealers dropping what they will pay and by how much? I wonder what they are saying to sellers?

    • @thetrackertravels
      @thetrackertravels 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ztifnai Our experience in part exchanging in May/June was this: We were offered a price for ours that varied by almost £9k from one dealer to another. They were also differing dependent on stock and what trying to sell. One big dealer offered us less and no discount on new. Where we ended up gave the best part exchange and a discount on the new one - to came down to the price to change and seeking out the best deal. The major dealer also offered the lowest and was swamped with used vehicles - they ‘suggested’ we sell our vehicle privately to ‘get more’ - in effect did not want it - they didn’t need more stock so were low balling. Where we ended up, was keen for quality stock and had a good stock of new so it worked. My feeling is that the part exchange offers are lowering to reflect the new discounts. That’s the way. Again back to the price to change. If you have had a vehicle from before the pandemic then you will probably not notice the perceived drop in the same way as someone who bought at height of market and have an actually noticeable drop if that makes sense.

    I am ready to buy, been researching and looking for 12+ months. No way am l buying right now though, maybe spring. Sellers have to realistic, a 20 year old 100k mile Murvi for £20k private, really? The boom has gone, the covid bump has gone, tough financial times are here and motorhome stock is rising every week. The private sellers will have to bite the bullet first as l see the same vans sticking forever then popping up again under an agency. I sold my motorbike last week, it was the newest, lowest mileage, lowest owners one on the net, l made it the cheapest and it's gone and l have £, the others are still for sale....

    • @thetrackertravels
      @thetrackertravels 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Only my humble advice and recent experience ourselves. I would say that now (and over the summer) is a reasonable time to buy as the discounts are abound on new models but these are more the fixed bed/twin bed arrangements. I say this as there is some 2023 vehicles around and a lot of 2024 so dealers will be wanting to shift these before taking on their 2025 stock commitments. We intended to wait to the autumn/spring but the part ex offer on our last motorhome was good and there was £5k off the new - so it stacked up for us to do it now but we visited a lot of dealers as the deals vary so much. See what deal you can find (its always about the bottom line/price to change) and caravan values are sliding already. However Brownhills have in stock now a Escape 640 with £10,500 off brand new. - £69.995 from £80,595 so some drop down beds can be found… just hunt around.

    Are you able to do one of your excellent analysis vlogs on the higher end A Class market. We are looking to get our first tag axle 8 or 9 metre, but prices are all over the place. Looking at Travelworld Erwyn Hymer, they have 7 unsold brand new Niesmann Arto models at average £215000 (on Fiat Ducato) and they are all 2023/4 previous models. But there is now the new radically updated 2025 models released on Mercedes - so what's going to happen to the existing (now obsolete) stock. Also Burstner Elegance 9 metres - looks like there are at least 10 2023 model units unsold nationwide with discounted prices varying wildly? Adria supersonics now showing aferage £10k discounts. It would be extremely helpful to get your take on this before we go to NEC in October with our cheque book.

Admittedly this is a smaller portion of the pie, but there are buyers for these and people will have worked hard for these and have their reasons, for example I know of some people who spend most of the year on the road and have downsized at home so this now meets their current way of life.

    We made a similar vlog. The issue is 2008 motorhome with nearly 50K on 25K. Who would pay 25K for a 16y year old car. It's pretty much 5 times the prices and the cabs in motorhomes are poor compared to cars. With another few months of no interest cuts, we shall see what will happen. If dealers struggling at the busiest time of the year imagine what it's like in winter. People won't want to catch a falling knife as it's called in the markets. What the dealers need to do is offer lower money to get the prices down but it's not really in their interests to do so. Also like many said campsites are too expensive so people think well might as well stay in a hotel and have a lot less hassle and debt.

The heady days of Covid fuelled staycation which coincided with a couple of very good summers, has given way to record numbers of holidaymakers going abroad to avoid the bad weather at home. Add this to the increased site fees, metered electricity costs, higher insurance premiums and stubbornly high fuel prices. Just curious as a dealer told me its not like car dealers who may sort it out for you if you did not buy from them, its extremely rare for a caravan or motorhome dealer to do warranty work on a vehicle they did not supply. So be careful people with your hard earned cash.

      This is correct - you are faced with redirection from the manufacturer. We experienced this when we bought a used Bailey from a non Bailey dealer for our first one and needed some work done - the local Bailey dealer to us as good as said go away! There are independent and mobile repairers that are approved by some of the manufacturers that can do some warranty stuff so that could be an option when you have lost a dealer. But, again, another aspect of the industry that makes buyers vulnerable. Thank you for your comments - A&J

    Thanks for the vlog its interesting. One thing i want to know is 3 perhaps 4 years ago a CV 20 campervan was £44000 brand new as reported by a person who bought one, suddenly they were approaching £70k+. When i questioned a dealer they said its market trends supply and demand so basically they can charge what they can get away with,he actually had a smirk or a grin on his face while informing me of the fact. Sadly we missed the boat of reasonably priced second hand units and after 30 plus years of camping, caravans, trailer tents and old vw t2 and t4 we are actually thinking the unthinkable. To give up our hobby which seems to have become a cash cow to some, especially as site prices are becoming higher and higher. I do understand things change but by the amount it has is just not acceptable, just one of those things, got to accept it etc, no i no longer accept that argument sadly a lot of our camping and caravan friends are all thinking the same and on the verge of giving it up. Unfortunately no one wants to buy caravans or motorhomes because of the financial crisis etc so they will be ornaments. Whoever thought campsite showers and toilets etc have to be hotel grade and forced prices skywards, along with super pitches where its all on your little pitch or territory, come on people have you lost the use of your legs? Lots of so called campers dont like talking or communicating anymore avoiding any kind of eye or god forbid verbal conact. I understand if a person is physically disabled a super pitch may be advantageous but people who seem healthy, having bikes etc or scooters why? Are you lazy or just obnoxious ignorant snobs who need formal introduction etc. I can remember when camping was all about having a great time, helping others if needed, keeping healthy, lots of walking cycling etc. sadly it seems those times are disappearing fast. Sorry for the bit of a long comment but its time someone let the people in charge (who keep wondering why no one booking expensive sites) know some of us can be pushed so far then you will lose not only our business but yours too.

      No need to apologise for a long comment - always welcome perspectives. Andy grew up in a caravanning family (over the last nearly 50 years) and remembers well much of what you have described about the way things were. This is something that we have discussed with friends ourselves. We don;t mind the occasional serviced pitch (for a one nighter or quick weekend when on the travels for example) but do see that some of the users demands are changing as the world does. I am with you, don’t need hotel grade showers but up to date, clean and functional does the job - to be fair we use our own unit most of the time. As for prices, the industry has hidden behind Brexit and Pandemic to ramp up prices. I get the cost of living challenges but this is being artificially compounded in my view. Manufacturers need to taper down production - I know this means impact on people and jobs, but if they do not trim now, costs will continue to.be there, supply way over demand and eventually they won;t be there. Interesting times indeed.

      I'm in a different industry but the prices of goods went to the moon over covid due to increased demand and difficulty obtaining parts due to lock downs and shipping costs spiralling. Now things have returned to normal a lot of costs have come down but remain way higher than pre-covid. Staff costs, electricity and all other overheads have increased and that takes me on to site fees, I can't see how some sites manage to make a profit given the cost of electricity. Heating water and shower blocks and providing electricity on site pitches. Lastly, I agree people have changed. I've worked a customer facing role for 35 Years and experienced it first hand, the reason for it is that people are spending more time indoors post covid. Caravans look cosmetically beautiful but they are no longer comfortable and we can’t trust the build quality. There are to many issues with water ingress and poor quality fixtures and fittings. Brand new caravans with screaming brakes and door locks that fail easily. The manufacturers have shot themselves in the foot by not listening to customers and not addressing all the issues.
