    So good to know he isn't just another good looking or superficial actor. He really cares what happens around him.
    He is very intelligent.
    I had a kind of wrong superficial picture of him, judging him only on Vampire Dairies.

    Ian Somerhalder is such an amazing man! He has so much heart and such an old soul. He understands sustainability so well, but he not only talks about it, he LIVES it. His new business, Brother's Bond Bourbon, is using sustainably sourced grains to produce their bourbon. He is raising his daughter to understand the world and the parts that each person should/could be playing in it. If only everyone would actually sit and listen to him speak and understand that he is more than the outer (beautiful) layer. This man is exceptional!

    I'm studying to be a teacher, and each of Ian's words made me reflecto a lot on what beaing a teacher is and how much you can change children's lives by changing your own habits and showing them how they can do it too and bringing them experiences through which they can learn about what our planet needs to survive and be healthy and shiny for them and their kids in the future. I really admire him, not only because of his artistic talent, which is huge, but also for his humility, his humanitarian commitment and the deep love he shows for everything and everyone he cares about.

    Wow what amazing humans ✨, I ended up here following human connection of energy and light I sensed in Ian after seeing a photo of him that took me way way passed the obvious aesthetic draw , it’s impossible to take our eyes away from beautiful things , everything he exudes is perfectly placed to captivate , inspire , connect and enlighten us , I knew I was going to learn and be inspired and be comforted I am not alone in my motivation and awareness that we are connected by all things , We , the people the children will only save ourselves and our planet if we fundamentally connect with ourselves and each other first , we all have a role to play , this is Ian’s finest , this was always his path , he’s embracing it , it’s amazing to see he’s in such alignment with himself and humanity , as we all can be when we are open to it . I’m excited to watch your life journeys and your kinship while I follow my own humanitarian arrows , Thank you , Namaste brothers , love and light ♥️✨

    Our world changed drastically . The only hope we have is in our children . Ian , you are great . I appreciate everything you do. We can start the change with ourselves . The more we talk about it, the better. Schools are the most important . Our kids, teaching them about our planet , at home . We must change or we will experience great disaster . How do you change big corporations ? We stop buying their products . This madness must stop. They killing whales , dolphins , sharks senseless just don't make any sense . Not only that, a lot of fish end up in garbage . It's bothering me a lot , but I just don't know how we going to stop that.

    As an Indigenous person, Two things that disappointed and pained me watching this.
    "Were all Indigenous" no, Indigenous communities are Indigenous.
    And another point an excuse of "Its in my blood I can say that" no, thats not how that works. You can not speak for all Indigenous communities like that, especially if removed from the culture. Its offensive and part of the colonization problem. Especially if then all sentences follow are now "them" "those people". You are now separating yourself for what you claimed to be apart of.
    That being said a way to be more proactive isnt taking notes from indigenous cultures , but amplifying OUR voices

    When it seems too obvious, it might be, y'know... too obvious. I think there's a fundamental understanding of economics missing from this business-oriented, practical education, for-profit great new paradigm. Demand may drive offer, but through marketing and other tricks, offer can also drive demand. Localities that depend on dirty business won't magically turn the local mine into an eco-museum where kids can practically learn about geology and sustainable mining practices. Educators should remain business-neutral, as long as profits are the goal, it's the only end goal. That's why the distinction between for-profits and non-profits is made in the first place. Especially in a world where the impacts of new business practices are often hidden and that neutral regulation and oversight seems to be the only way to ensure reports aren't fudged, it sounds like greenwashing as usual to me.
    Enlightened citizens change the world, enlightened consumerism overly relies on consumers, and not enough on producers. It's like going after the addicts to opioids instead of going after Purdue. Going after the junkie instead of going for the dealers and most of all the producers and their distributors, those motivated by nothing but cold hard numbers. Expecting the little guy to make the sacrifices, in both money and time, researching and "buying consciously", bearing the full responsibility of his dollar, while producers spend millions in strategy and marketing to manipulate his choices with what?! Crafty storytelling.
    Meanwhile, we're cancelling every "junkie" with a plastic straw, while wearing a shirt made from polyester... (50% polyester, 25% cotton and 25% rayon, in Ian's case.. MUCH more energy spent than for boiling maple syrup!) There's more to it than "Green Prophets" in every community corner, selling people another tired version of green capitalism... Look at any oil company's website, and their commitment to sustainability... they are MASTER at storytelling. Not so much at accurately depicting their responsibility in the global crisis. Independent citizens need to educate and document. Science and education need to remain as free from business interests as possible, for all our sakes. Profit is a dictatorship, not a democracy. It doesn't do well with opposition or sharing power with other well-meaning sentiments like sustainability or social responsibility. Like Ian's shirt made from plastic. Not saying I care, polyester is everywhere, even if your shirt is cotton, your thread might be poly, all I'm saying is it takes more than a renewed consumer-based market logic to beat this beast we're faced with. It shouldn't be about personal virtue. If you want to find the corruption, to play along on the storytelling lesson, "follow the money". That's where the power lies, and the merchants of doubt are already at work, trying to convince us WE had the power all along, when it's convenient. Let us carry the weight of a dying world. Worse. Put it all on the children's shoulders!

    • @blackwidownsw9509
      @blackwidownsw9509 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q- Can share what do you personally do to save our planet?

    • @katymaloney
      @katymaloney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you must know, I personally do a lot, for my own conscience's sake, but I just don't consider my personal virtuous actions as "enough" to change the general direction of the world. I am but a mere human in a sea of mere humans, alone I can't accomplish much, we are more powerful in numbers, and collective action is inherently political. I'm a university professor, so a "liberal elite" if you will, but my whole family was born in a company mining town and are very much blue collar. They don't seem to care about much else than "making a living", and since I studied extractive frontiers and their colonial histories, I understand their positions whole-heartedly. But I can't share their simplistic view of the world. They are resigned, to them, "the world is how it is and that's it". I can't be like that.
      To me, it's like we're all on a train and when I look out the window, I see a broken bridge ahead, I see the potential for crash and burn, and everyone else is just sitting around, watching the movie, telling me to shut up and do the same. I'm sorry but I can't do that... I can't unknow what I already know. I can't unsee what I've seen. People want their kids to get an education, but once we're educated, everyone's just like "Oh, but that's just your opinion...". No, no it's not. I do this full time, for a living. I don't pull this stuff out of my butt, it's backed by years and years of studies and data. That's where I feel most useful, transmitting and producing knowledge about socio-environmental issues and how to address them meaningfully. Modernity is all about progressive politics, why is it that we readily accept "disruptive" technologies that change our lives entirely, but we can't fathom "disrupting" inequalities? "Disruptive" politics?! We've seen Kyoto fail, Paris fail, COP21, etc. all failed to address this stuff meaningfully. The Montreal Protocol, THAT worked. But it didn't threaten to disrupt "strategic ressources" such as oil and gas, it was "just" CFCs. That lobby wasn't strong enough to stand up to regulatory bodies, they collaborated, the product was easier to replace by a cleaner alternative.. but the model is the right one. No one got to "choose through the market" whether they wanted an ozone layer or not. Just like we can't only rely on personal choices now when it comes to stuff like single-use plastics and greenhouse gas emissions.
      I don't mind personal sacrifices... but they'll never be enough to address global issues. Some people can't bear the weight of the whole sacrifice while others burn through the rest of the supply of "dirty goods". Unless you wanna go back to the Middle Ages and have a ruling class with all the goods and a serving class with nothing to eat or breathe. Think mass migrations are bad now?! Just wait when it really starts to get hot... My profession, or your judgement on it, won't matter much then... neither will your or my personal sacrifices. Civilizations have fallen for much less... I want to be optimistic, but it's looking grim from where I stand...
