This is beautiful. He doesn't really talk about the thing he's making, or his feelings, but they need not be said. We get to watch him make it while he mutters truths to himself, like a personal, private ritual. He says a toast, takes a swig of vodka, adds it to the peracetic acid mix, imbuing the grief over his fallen companion into his crafting process.

Dogs were the very first animals that we humans domesticated, so in a way, we have them to thank for our entire civilisation. With that in mind, if humans are ever wiped out in some cataclysmic event of biblical proportions _(cough cough)_ then I hope that this box is the only evidence that the alien archaeologists discover. The box itself, a demonstration of our ability to craft and build, and the memorial paw, a monument to those with whom we shared the path

More than that, I'd say all people are monsters, some just manage to wrap themselves in enough layers of denial to think they're pacifists. Maybe they'll even allow themselves or others to be prey to support that comforting delusion.
But nobody who wouldn't allow everyone they know and love to be tortured and killed in front of them without lifting a finger to stop it is really a pacifist, they just have a higher threshold for when they believe force becomes necessary.
Even then, most are kidding themselves, hiding from the reality of the policies they support:
“When you vote, you are exercising political authority, you're using force. And force, my friends, is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived.”
― Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers
That said, I too have been the victim of a few monsters in my life and you have my sympathies. Hopefully you've learned the lesson needed to keep the cycle from repeating..

The internet has stolen all of that and left only the hedonic drive. Watching you work and wax philosopoetic made me realize how much time I’ve squandered. Thanks for your videos AvE, they've been an inspiration.
My trusty kitchenaid chooched its last and let the smoke out while I was grinding some meat for the feline companions, and I know that a couple years ago I would have had no idea what to do about it - but after seeing you perform, uh, 'careful disassembly' of all these widgets and gadgets over the years, now I have an understanding of what goes on under the hood.
My apartment hasn't got room for a workshop, bench or vise, the fanciest tools I own are an adjustable wrench, a screwdriver, and knife & fork, and my soft pink hands haven't seen harder labour thank stocking shelves back when, but I've got that sucker torn down and I actually have the option of asking myself "buy a whole new thing, or replace the burnt out bits and save a buck".
    So, thanks.

Home is the place you lay your head to rest, with your family and your bestfriend. A dogs love is like no other. A mans love for a dog is like no other. A dog will love you unconditionally through the toughest of times, and love you equally during the best. AvE, you're one hell of a man. I see myself as a cold stone kind of person, but you brought tears to my eyes. Though i love my trade, i long for a home. AvE, youve taught me so much, ive been a follower for YEARS. I lost my best friend Bruno a few months ago, my life will never ever be the same.
He was my favorite person on planet Earth and I miss him more than words could ever describe.
I am not even a little bit ashamed to admit I got far more than little bit choked up.
that boy was my life, he went wherever I went.
A huge part of my life is gone and can never be replaced, there was something so special about him

One of the hardest thing I've ever done was putting my dog down by myself because nobody (veterinarians) would help me this September. Afterwards the silence and being left alone was the best thing I could ask for. It's strange how the loss of companionship is best healed by solitary.

@@mrt9749 some wouldn't answer, some wanted to schedule an appointment days later. I have 2 vets I go to that were 24hr but they closed after hours during the pandemic. I'd have to drive over an hour away for just a chance that a 24hr vet would do it. She wasn't going to last a hour, the toughest dog I've ever had was unsettled and yelping non stop as everything was shutting down.

Best to do it yourself. Best for them, best for you. It's quicker than finding a vein, or having to be strapped down if they're uncomfortable. Just a single report and it's done. Time for the tears comes after the trigger is pulled.

It was a normal video until you place it that rough finish, hand made dog print inside the cnc machined box. I assume it's a metaphor for how much this meant to you. It could be interpreted in many ways but to me, seeing that is something that will stick with me for life. Thanks dude.

I was watching this, saying to myself "poor Buddy..." But Buddy had a great, full life. Good on you for being with him for that great life.
Sometimes I wonder why we take in pets. Losing them is a terrible and inevitable feeling. Then I look over at my old pup, pat her on the head and tell her I love her. Sharing time together is so worth it. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I am sorry for your loss. I have two dogs that are close to the end of my time with them... I am not a religious man but I am trying... One thing in my readings of the Bible there is one thing I remember from Sunday school. Dog is God spelt backwards, because dogs love is the closest thing we will experience on earth to agape love (pure unconditioned love that God has for us)... Thank you for the great idea on how I can make their departure from my family easier for my wife and kiddo...
