Thanks for your video. I have to tackle this on a 350C, I can only imagine it's gonna be even tighter or impossible without some major work, like pulling the engine.
If you take the back off that solenoid, you`ll probably find that the copper washer has gotten stuck in one place and has a bunch of carbon built up to where it`s not making a good electrical contact. My uncle used to flip that washer over and put it back in and it was good to go. I don`t blame you for getting a smaller one. That looks like a royal pain!
I’ve actually taken one apart like that before and done that same thing. I can’t complain too much about this old machine because I know the new crap is a lot harder.
I have a special simideep socket that I use on my Detroit diesel’s starter bolts. They’re 12 point 9/16 like yours. My starter’s are MT39/40 I believe.
My 450 C does not have a access hole in the frame using a crows foot to get the bottom bolt ,thought I would get a new starter before taking the starter out .Just wondering how to find the starter you used .I have numbers for the JD
@@Paw95 Started taking out the starter ,what an ugly extraction ,the crows foot didn't work ,looks like who ever worked on it before cut the upper edge of the frame ,any chance that access hole on yours is after factory
That round hole in the frame is a factory cut out and also the top section of the frame has a cut out also to help remove the starter. It could be possible someone cut it out more. Mine has never been cut out before other then the factory. That new starter is smaller and fits in there much better also.

It looks tough, but the alternator on my son`s Jeep Compass was a thousand times worse. I was ready to burn it! Lol

Yes it is a DB starter. That must be a common thing with them starters then. That thing really works great though!!

I got this starter off Ebay. Seller is DB Electrical-Starters-Alternators. Looks like the number is 410-12117.

Had another look at your video ,the top of your frame has a cut out , mine I can feel the flame gouges
