In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Ironclad. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:
Slay the Relics Exporter, used for the live stream: steamcommunity...
Relic Stats, to keep track of how many times the relic effects happened: steamcommunity...
UI Sliders, to reposition the Discard and Exhaust piles, so that they are not hidden behind the camera: steamcommunity...
Run History Plus, giving us more info in the Run Summary screen about the run: steamcommunity...
Map Marks, for path highlighting - here, typically, Green means an easy, intended path, and Orange or Red means a harder path that I might take if I get good rewards: github.com/cas...
Even though I do not use it, I recommend Minty Spire for people looking for various Quality-of-Life improvements: steamcommunity...
Got a searing blow to over 150 on my last Clad run. Felt pretty good. Went into the heart with 3 liquid memories and a dupe pot

I think a better way to do the intros is to state a point of failure in the deck instead of a spot. Instead of “fail in act 3” you could say “or will the deck struggle with bloat and consistency?” It’s hard to believe an hour and a half run failed in act 2 like the one you put out yesterday

I would NOT have trusted my math on that final turn.
Well the math is easy as heart just had 10x 6 + 1. What would have put me off is not knowing if the heart died mid attack.
I really want to see a warped tongs/searing blow/armaments run. I feel like that would at least be fun to try

I think this intro notes would be WAY MORE relevant if 40 - 50% of the uploads ended up in a failed run. But... I guess that's what the "Archives" are for.
Just cleared act 4 for the first time. Silent with burst and two upgraded catalyst. Felt so good.
Searing Blow runs are oftentimes the silliest, and therefore my favorite

I have a quick question:The highest ascension I've gotten to is A16 on the Defect. As I climb up ascensions, should I just focus on beating act 3 and not go for the heart or should I go for the heart every single run? I currently don't try for Act 4 because I know that the game will drastically change once I reach A20. for example, I don't want to develop any weird habits getting to the Heart on A1 that just won't work at A20. And sometimes, there are runs that I could have done better on, had I not gone for the keys.

I remember him answering a question like this where he said "checking in" with the heart every few runs isn't a bad idea. Mechanically, neither fight changes, for the most part they just deal way more damage. Worst case shield attacks turn 1 threatening 33 damage total with spear's 6x2, and spear's turn 2 is 10x4 on A20. Heart gains 3 hits on the multi, beat of death starts at 2, and invincible goes to 200. Big attack, if you can't weaken or block vulnerable, is 67, multi is 3x15. You can adjust your run's performance with some math to see how you would have done on A20 if you want.

@@minischooloflife I forgot to note something because I had to double check what ascension it appears on: Starting at A18 the burns the spear adds to your deck go to the top of the draw pile. Good luck getting to 20! I sometimes forget how I got there myself lol
@@AWPNubDiesel I know you're right. I remember when I first started playing Hades, I couldn't even get to Elysium (Act 3) and now, low and behold I can beat it at 20 heat consistently.
StS feels different because the success rate, for me at least, can be brutal . I'll lose 10-15 runs before I win 1. Baalord has helped me with not getting upset over wins and loses so much though. I still have fun during the loses...but damn I wanna win more frequently haha.
@@minischooloflife I still have more 10-11 loss streaks than I'd like to admit. I don't think I've broken 3 wins in a row either. Don't beat yourself up too much. If the game wasn't hard winning wouldn't be quite the same. If you're looking for different strategies to add to your understanding of the game, maybe check out some of Tricky's runs. He's kind of a mad scientist; he actually looks forward to winding halls/falling lol.

I wonder, if you have warped tongs, can they upgrade searing blow multiple times and if so do the upgrades stay?
They can upgrade multiple times, but only within the combat, I'd imagine
yes to the first, no to the second. upgrades by warped tongs happen within the battle (similar to upgrade potion, armaments etc); they don't affect cards in the deck.

@6:15 this explanation is exactly why i lose runs. I dont think far enough ahead to determine if doing x will negate damage next turn if i cant take all foes down this turn.

Probably not, he has 20k avg views per video and has for a long time, he needs better titles, they suck and wont draw in anyone unless they already watch

it would be funnier if baalor was just really nervous doing the voice overs, but more likely ai generated
You really need to post more failed runs if you want these intros to make sense. Teasing a potential act 3 fail doesn't really work when like 99% of your videos are wins. Or just change the intros, eithet way love the videos overall

We also have a VOD channel. The % of people interested in the post run analysis is so low that it ultimately hurts the performance of the video and the channel as a whole. It's a strategic decision to reach more awesome viewers like yourself!
The Archive channel is the best solution for this but we'll think on it and try to solve this for the people who do want to see it on the main channel. We'll try our best but no promises.
