We've lost some amazingly talented players over the last few years. Seeing new gunslingers like, Mr. King, coming up the ranks is very inspirational, and gives me a lot of hope for the future. Our music will not die.
I remember what Elwood Blues said about blues music's future, that it will be available only in the classical music section of the public library. That thought is more than a little disconcerting to those of us who hold the blues as an integral part of our lives. As long as we have musicians like Marcus King we have hope . ( BTW, check out the British female guitarist Joann Shaw Taylor, she's the real deal also )
He's the real deal, but still just a humble young man with a great, positive attitude! He's also be the first to give credit to each of his other band members, who are also very talented young men with great attitudes. I was there for this gathering and this recording sounds so much better than it did that day Widespread took the stage and we paying customers were all but robbed of a double feature. My Band...My Love...but a one set show that was too loud to comprehend in the midst of sweltering heat and infestations that wanted to eat your face off was not the remedy I was looking for during my Spring Vacation in April. Blessings to the Spread and all the Spread Heads that shared some life that weekend with me but a minor disappointment...minor at worst. Thank you for the upload.........
Maannnn.... damn good stuff! I've been lucky enough to meet him and his killer band twice this year at island exodus and again in birmingham. So humble, friendly and thankful to us like he doesn't just shred the strings right off his guitar. My wife doesn't even love music half as much as myself and she's ready to hit the road selling grilled cheeses with MKB. Rock on MKB hope you fellas have a long career ahead of you!
You hear fsr more bands covering ABB than you hear them covering Skynyrd. Because ABB > ALL. Their reach throughout the music industry is FAR & WIDE. They probably inspired more people to play than any other band on this planet. Bar none. Just look how many festivals there are that are Allman related. 10? 20? Now how many have been started because of Skynyrd? None? Oh. Right. That says it ALL.

The Allman Brothers reach in music is FAR & WIDE. They've likely directly inspired more people to play than any other band I know of. Look how often their songs are covered versus any other band from their era. No one has the reach that ABB has. Seriously. There are more people directly tied to the Allman Brothers Band that play today directly because of the Allmans. Derek, Duane, Duane Betts, Vaylor & Melody Trucks, and every other family member of band members that plays. Then there's direct friends of theirs that play, and their kids who play because ABB. It extends all the way down to the end of the line, the listener, who, also learns to play because of ABB. I guarantee you more people play guitar today because of ABB than any other rock band. Any band. Today, people are honored to cover The Allman Brothers Band. You don't hear people play Skynyrd like this. Or The Band. Or any other band. None of em. Just look how many ABB related festivals there are. 10? 20? And how many Skynyrd festivals? None? And other bands? The Greatful Dead may come close. That's it. Nobody can touch ABB. Their legacy outweighs EVERYONE ELSE.
Why, does Marcus need to turn up on wveey vid I've ever seen of him in a band situation? Sup with that? His sound guy needs to adjust the mix in his in-ears or something?
I am the BIGGEST Jimmy fan but it amazes me how he still doesn't know some of these songs thoroughly (came back early in Impossible, needs chord charts in a binder etc).
He said that he needed to learn 200 songs just for WSP, and that it definitely was a challenge. If you look, you'll notice Duane always has a binder of charts as well...it's just too many songs.
