First time I've seen that particular drink called an "Irish Slammer", but I can see where the more typical name could be problematic.

Btw: the Irish Slammer is actually known as an Irish Car Bomb in the States. Obviously means something different back home.
In Germany as well. Local Irish Pubs all have it listed as Irish Car Bombs. Though slammer is right on point - albeit with a little delay. But when it hits ... ooooh boy. :D
The name "Irish car bomb" for this drink is highly inappropriate. And offensive. Don't call it that. No matter where you are. If you know better, do better.
Many bars have renamed it from that to Irish Slammer.
In chicago bars, Irish car bomb comes with a shot of Jameson

- Sure I took my son to the pub to get him going on our family tradition.
- I bought him a pint of Guinness to start.
- He didn't like it!
- So, after asking him WHY, I finished it.
- Then I thought I'd try a pint of Harp.
- He didn't like THAT either!
- So, of course I had to finish THAT.
- Then I thought I had better switch gears. I bought him a tall glass of Jamesons.
- That TOO he didn't like.
- So I finished that
- I thought to me self: "Well enough of that"
- And of course I was starting to feel the effects, and thought I'd better stop.
- And good thing, too, cause I had the damndest time pushing his walker back to the house!

Good joke, but you might have to substitute 'walker' for another word to make it understandable to many people outside of Ireland.
Pram would be a possible substitute.
To me at least, walker means Zimmer frame or walking frame, so I was totally confused initially when I reached the end of the joke.

The Irish slammer one, here in the USA when I have been served it that was called an Irish car bomb. It taste like rootbeer to me.

The Irish Car Bombs I’ve tried didn’t have Jäegermeister but Jamison’s and I quite liked them, though. Reckon us yanks have that sick sense of humor hence the name🤷🏻♀️

I used to drink a lot of the
Irish Slammer" when they were named something non-PC. They are awesome, but very, very, very dangerous... Glad they renamed it. Much Love all

They're still called car bombs in the US at in most bars. But, even a decade plus ago, when I use to order them quite a bit, it was pretty well known that you don't call them that if you're in an Irish pub. I don't even think it's "PC" to not call them car bombs in an Irish establishment, it's just completely common sense, and very insensitive if you do. It's like naming a drink "an American 9/11".
Still car bombs in the US! I even have a car bombs drink tshirt for a pub crawl.
I used to work with a bartender from Ireland in the mid 90's and one night a kid came in and obviously didn't pay attention to the accent and asked if he knew how to make a car bomb. Dermot asked if he was stupid and the kid bet him 20 bucks that he could drink one faster. Dermot doubled down and said 40 bucks he could drink 2 before the kid finished 1. Poor kid didn't even get 1/4 of it down before Dermot had both his done.
Yes, very dangerous. Last St. Paddy’s Day out, which is over 10 years ago now, I had probably 3 of them (in addition to whatever else) and had to climb up my balcony with a large pizza because I’d lost my keys-and my sweater, but whatever-somewhere downtown. Why did I have a large pizza? Well, because I was hungry and couldn’t remember how to order pizza, so I just ordered “The Special” that was posted on the board at the pizza place where I was waiting for my taxi. Obviously 🙄
It took a second to dawn on me why they wouldn't refer to them as 'Irish Car Bombs' in Ireland cuz....well. Anyway the 'Irish Slammer' is one of my favorite drinks! Cheers.
I was looking for this comment...... me and an Irish friend went over to Ireland for a month. He warned me ahead of time not to ask for an Irish Car Bomb in any bar as they wouldn't take it well.
That's what I've heard to them called too. Probably changed the name because of thin-skinned North Americans.

For anyone trying an Irish Car Bomb for the first time, DO NOT piss around after you've dropped the shot in the Guinness. It curdles and is NOT easy on the eyes. I asked my favorite bar wench to just make me an extra-large one with a couple shots and a full pint. She warned me, but I didn't listen. Thanks for trying, Jandy.

The reason you have to throw back the "Irish slammer" is because it will curdle if you let it sit. Also these are definitely not invented by an Irish person, especially the Irish slammer which has a much more offensive name in the states.

Irish Slammer is the name that won't get you kicked out of an actual Irish bar. The other name can cause offense due to Ireland's personal history of such bombings. Read up on it. I'm a former bartender who was educated by an Irish patron.
@@elliscrane I have never been to a bar in Ireland. However, I do understand the point you ate making with respect to the change in the name of the drink. I have never heard it called an Irish slammer. Now, that I am aware of the change in the name I have no issue with calling it an Irish slammer.

Gosh, the Irish Slammer really takes me back. That was my favorite drink as a (relatively, still legally able to drink) young brat, lol. Really just an excuse to drink a lot of Guinness very fast.

Yeah, the latter name is more common in the U.S., but there's been a concerted effort, even here, to change the name because the Irish find it highly offensive. It would be like naming a shot the "9/11" or "School Shooter".

Would’ve been interested to hear their reaction to the name of the last drink in the United States: It’s name is “Irish Car Bomb”. I’d figure that’d get me bodily ejected from an Ireland bar for ordering it by that name.
I had to rewind to check the name. Had a real WTF moment there! Even in Irish pubs in Los Angeles, they serve "Irish Car Bombs" .. not "Irish Slammers." I can only hope they'll start using the less offensive name for it stateside.
Why would you want to see their reactions to something like that? I am 100% sure they know the alternative name, and in so choosing to call it something else make it obvious that it's not a term that should be used.

Just like there's a reason there's no Hurricane Katrina cocktail in New Orleans (they do have hurricane daiquiris, but those were named decades before Katrina hit)
I love all these guys! The try channel Irish are the best. I change who my favorites are all the time. Right now it's Seamus and Nicole. They are awesome. Next month, who knows!
