Fursuits are also very expensive. You never stop paying for it. Repairs, refurbishment (they'll need it after a few years), washing supplies, sewing supplies (at least thread, needles and scissors), slicker brush, proper storage supplies (you can't just shove it in a box), etc.
I make my own suits. But i own 2 other suits from other makers. It is not cheap. But *DO NOT DO GOFUNDME SUITS OR BEG FOR FREE SUITS*
I use fursuits as a coping mechanism for my health. But IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. It is exhausting to transport and suit up. And you need to really be prepared.

Great comment, I agree with everything here! Suits are definitely expensive and I feel like most people definitely skimp out on their care, particularly when it comes to storage or upkeep. Refurbishing seems to be the general trend and so many suiters don't know a basic blanket stitch! Discussing fursuit essentials like this would make for a great topic in the future.

The first couple of times I wore my suit out in public were quite difficult! (Heat, vision - I don’t have much of an issue with claustrophobia) The biggest issue was the vision - it’s not so much the eyeholes (theyre very large), the blind spot is really large too on my current suit and it causes me to become very dizzy after I take it off. I’ve now made a new suit that has a smaller blind spot so it should be easier on my eyes.
I thought I was the only person that got dizziness and migraines from blind spots! Despite having good vision, Lemon makes me strain my eyes a lot from using my peripherals. Leads to some nasty migraines after conventions and filming. Not fun!
As someone who's finding out how bad my sensory issues are, I was really glad to hear this! Like, yeah I could probably push myself to be suited up for a couple hours, but I'd probably end up being dead to the world for the next few days. A plushie/badge/t-shirt sounds genuinely fun too, not even a compromise. Even if this didn't reach anyone, knowing that someone out there recognizes this makes me super happy!!
Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope this fandom pushes for fursuit accessibility in the future. This hobby can be very exhausting and I'd love to explore it at length one day!
@@Candycrave Definitely! I think most internet peeps have seen cool Halloween costumes for wheelchairs/users, I'm ready to see a lot more of that for sure! (Also light weight things!)
If you don't want a suit cupping your face. There's actually suits you wear ontop of your head! Via helmet and you basically look out the neck c:
Also do not feel like you need to push yourself too wear a fursuit if it's too much!!
Fursuits do the opposite for me. I get sensory overload easily with my anxiety, but putting something on that muffles the sounds and touches actually helps. Maybe I would like one of those weighted blankets, but fursuits seem like more fun.
I've heard of that experience as well! A lot of people on the spectrum love pressure stimming and a fursuit definitely mimics the feeling of a weighted blanket. My friend mentioned that in conjunction with becoming attached to objects in high stress environments ( like a convention )
Lmao that's awesome. Duvet if fursuits will do the same for me. Weighted blankets are awesome for sleeping with though and I highly recommend one if you ever have some extra cash you aren't sure what to do with.
Samee, I feel safer when I’m in something small if ya know what I mean. Like, I feel safer if I’m in a small house, in a blanket, basically the opposite of claustrophobic

I agree with you about the alternative of showing that you are a furry especially the badges. I just love making and commissioning people for a badge of my characters. And maybe you can do a video on fursuit badges 😊❤️

Before buying a fursuit i would definitely reccomend trying one. If you have a local furmeet or furcon you could ask if someone could let you try one on so you know what to excpect before buying your own. And if you can't, making your own and spending ~100$ on materials is better than spending 700+ on something you might not get much use out of. Anyway great content as always~!!

I like fursuits visually, except the ones that use your own eyes. Now matter how hard I try, I can't like them and find them creepy. I'll see what the full experience is when I make myself a fursuit, but cosplaying as popluar characters, like in a Marvel group made me realize how overwhelming the attention can be. Lots of photos, people saying hi and talking about the movies, and I was Gamora, so all the green paint got kinda warm too and needed a few touch ups.
I plan to make my first fursuit next year, and I'm saving up for the materials. I'm guessing it will cost over $200 for fur and foam, but I haven't bought everything yet, only a few things I found locally. They certainly aren't cheap especially in countries with high tax rates like the part of Canada I live in. When people have commissioned me for cosplay, it sure does take a lot of effort the more complex something is, so I can totally get why prices can be so high.
This video was extremely helpful maybe a fursuit is not for me after all and its so great to know I don't have to have one to be apart of this fandom. I love being a furry and I'm proud of it but after a while I thought I needed a fursuit to just be apart of the furry fandom. In a weird way that is a big relief on me. I do have some scenery issues so yeah a fursuit might not be the best thing. Thank you for talking about the websites too I was starting to think hyena agenda was the only one out there because I didn't really hear about other ones until now, plus I wasn't sure how to find anyone who makes shirts and stuff like that, I wasn't even sure how to word it in Google. I make my own costumes, and my first fursuit is made from faux fur and fleece, and love wearing my fursuit in comic cons and also in public.

In all honesty, I wish I truly knew how hot it really is inside a fursuit Head before getting my partial. I wear glasses and I just thought wearing my glasses would be ok, but every time I put them on they fog up 3 seconds later. Thankfully, I have contacts now but still, the heat can be unbearable at times.
I think there's spray/wipes out there that prevent fogging up. I've heard of kimono suiters(is that the term? I forget) using them. I personally don't know of any brands though.
I want a fursuit but the sensory issues that come with my autism could make it difficult since I'm pretty temperature sensitive especially to heat. At least there's still the art and I can just watch people in fursuits
When in doubt, ask a friend if they'd let you lend their suit to try it on! ( With supervision of course, I'm going to make a video about the Do's & Don'ts of lending suits in the future! ) I'd say to try on Spirit masks or Maskimals to get a "feel" for what they're like, but their fabrication is completely different and you wouldn't be able to give you a perfect gauge on what wearing a fursuit is like.
@@Candycrave okay thank you! I unfortunately don't have a friend who has one but perhaps someday I'll be able to meet someone who has one. The closest I have at the moment is a floofy fox tail and ears at the moment, I like how the fur feels at least

Yeah fursuits aren’t for me, I’m HOH so a head would make reading lips or hear out of my “good ear” a nightmare. I keep my hands glove free because I am fluent in ASL so I frequently act as interpreter on panels. So yeah I vibe! Lol
I’m not a Furry but I’ve tried multiple on before with sensory issues and it’s not bad at all for me.
i just want a fursuit cause i like this fandom-
In the future I want to try on a fursuit before I buy or commission my own so I would know if I like wearing fursuits or not. I’m considering commissioning (or possibly making) a suit in a few years because I would rather wait until I have more time in life and just when I’m ready for one. I would be ok if I never get a suit in the future because I don’t need one to be a furry :)
Me personally I only have trouble on heavy headed suits. They press on the bridge of my nose and it causes migraines
There is one suit I wear, and it’s the raptor from DVC. The resins seems to give me a headache, due to cross eye to see straight. Since the raptor has the vision through the snout instead of the standard eye holes. I was in bed with a headache and didn’t wake up till the next day aaaaah!
The only problem I would have with wearing a fursuit is social anxiety

Still don't understand why we must have eye mesh if it's just gonna eff our vision...
The eye mesh obscures the performer's face and eyes from the viewer. Mesh is used to add to the overall illusion of the costume, as there's no other way to get big toony eyes. Use your own eye fursuits are a good example of how suits look like with human eyes. I personally enjoy them but a lot of people find them unsettling.
Well... Than nu suit for me. My vision is bad enough as it is, so I would need either 100% of visibility, a alternative method or in this case, none at all. Thanks for your response though.

You don't need to go to conventions for beeing a furry nor you need a fursuit. You only have to want to be furry.
As somebody said, you don't need a fursuit to go to cons/be a furry :)
As for other furries in your location, I'd try just searching up (insert area here) furry groups. You may need to go to state/next largest city if theres no results though

As a critique :I don't get why the video is cropped as it is, it's quite distracting not being able to see your whole head. Also the speech seems very heavily scripted, a more natural kind of setting would feel less awkward.
These are the reasons i disliked, but i can see that you have a lot of potential.
Thank you for the criticism, I will try my best to apply it in the future! Admittedly I filmed this some odd few months ago and only just got around to editing it now. Recording in such a short time-frame in such a tiny space with no handler has its difficulties but I have more time to dedicate to TH-cam now, so here's to hoping my future content will improve on these fronts!
