    Great overview sir! Funny story - I was vending at Adobe Max and the XM5 was announced early on one of the days. I was checking out the FujiFilm booth and they had the camera, so I got to get my hands on it. It's so small! Would you say you picked it up for its size? What is the use case for this and how does it fit into the arsenal of cameras you have?

      Dude it's SO small and for sure - I got it for the size definitely. Going to Hawaii next month (loved your photos from your last trip out!) and it'll be the main point and shoot camera (which is ironic seeing how video-focused it is). The biggest issue with it that won't make it my main or 2nd shooter is the lack of IBIS. It will fit in when I want to be discreet (this new Viltrox lens rocks for how small it is) and don't want stand out. GFX for work, Lumix for video/YT, X-T5 for main photowalking, X-H2s for sports/action/wildlife. ;)

      @@oxeneers IBIS is the thing isnt it! But makes the camera much bigger. Question though - what is going to be your go-to lens for the MX5? Thanks for explaining your lineup! Cant wait to see your Hawaii photos! I hope you have great weather!

      @@caglartunca34 That's a good option but honestly, if you have the money, you might as well spring for the 18mm f2 even though it's "old" but still performs great on the non-40MP sensors, like the X-Trans IV in the X-M5.

    Awesome review, Dylan, I am also working on the X-m5 review. Should be ready by next week. Do you feel like your thumb's lower part accidentally touches the joystick/screen during one-hand operations of the X-M5?
    Today, I was in NY with X-M5 and was shooting with an umbrella in one hand (sadly, weather at hand at the start of the review) and faced this problem couple of times. May be because this is the smallest camera I ever used in my life.

      And no, I haven't had that issue yet. I have large hands and that hasn't happened once. I am often accidentally hitting the screen and moving the focus point all the time though aha. I saw all the NYC rain - not a good match for the non WR body! Hope your camera is good!!

    I don't think there's a really good spot for the Q button. The original XT-30 has it right on the thumb rest and everyone hated it because they hit it by mistake constantly. Since then it seems to move around all over the place from camera to camera, but there are always problems. I saw someone with manicured square-tipped finger nails trying to use the XM-5's Q button and it was completely impossible because the shape of her nails. Personally I'd like it to the right of the joystick, but it really depends on the size of the body whether a button would fit there.

    • @marcineden8840
      @marcineden8840 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      X-E2 got perfectly placed Q, I never hit it by mistake and can find it with no hassle, without looking at the camera back :)

    • @scottnelle
      @scottnelle 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @marcineden8840 oh yeah, that looks like a great spot! Do you ever accidentally hit the AF lock button? That's about where the Q is on the X-T30 and I hit it all the time.

    • @marcineden8840
      @marcineden8840 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@scottnelle Never, but I am also adding thumb rest to all my Fuji cameras. Then the finger is laying on the add-on and not on the factory grip where those AEL AFL button are :)

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Super, super well-said. I don't think I could have put it any better to be honest. The X-M5's Q button does seem like it should be a little bit further from the edge (more centered on the top panel) but nevertheless, you're right - there's no good spot for this thing. The X-T30's placement was the worst I've seen but people are saying the X-M5 is worse. I don't know haha. Thanks for the comment man!

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You enjoying the thumb rest? Not sure if you have the X-M5 but the thumb rests I've seen just make this thing so much bigger.

    Nice review Dylan, with great photos!
    No IBIS is a big miss for this camera. I thought Fuji was past that phase at this point. Also don’t love the film sim dial, but it makes sense for some new users they are targeting.
    Fuji really needs an updated 18mm f2 pancake to pair with this camera (and others), which would be a great paring everyday carry. Or even a revised 23mm f2 pancake like Canon’s 22mm f2 for the dead M-series.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks so much man - really appreciate the love! And yes, totally agree - it's weird how much I've come to take IBIS for granted. The X-M5, even at 1/60 or 1/80 really requires some steady hands to get ultra-sharp shots. I know putting it in the X100VI (IBIS, that is) was such a big deal because of the size, but there's plenty of other OEMs (e.g. LUMIX) who can do it in small bodies. So yeah, I agree.
      I've been using the XF18mm f2 pancake and the XF30mm f2.8 on this body and have had some great results in good light. Low light has been a struggle unless I'm using the XF33mm f1.4 or XF23mm f1.4 LM lenses. I'll talk more about this in my full review but you're dead on here - they really need some small lenses that are high performers. This is especially true since OIS has not been in a prime lens for Fujifilm in quite some time.

    It’s a cool and fun looking camera, takes awesome pictures. BUT. I think it was a mistake not to have IBIS if the video specs are so great. My first Fuji camera was the X-T30 and even then I though that it could take awesome videos IF it had good stabilization. That was years ago when IBIS wasnt a think yet. And I know the X-M5 couldn’t be so small or would have cost a more with IBIS. But for these days when iPhones etc take awesomely stable video you just can’t do with shaky footage.
    For me personally I’d have thought about the X-M5 if it didn’t have the video specs but they’d made the screen better (and style it like X-E4 one) and added a viewfinder. Just an electronic one would have been enough. And maybe allowed the film-dial to be customized. But then screen and missing viewfinder are the things making me not want one.
    Now the camera serves a beginner coming from a phone but doesn’t keep the beginner happy after learning about photography. And for video it’s kinda useless without IBIS. But maybe that’s the plan for Fuji. Get the beginner hooked and then get them buy an X-T5 etc.
    Just my 2 cents and I’m still happy Fuji is bringing back old fan favourites.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey man - yes, you're spot on. Likely in the full review I will go on about not having IBIS being the biggest miss but as the guys at PetaPixel said, there's nothing else in this price range (APS-C) that has IBIS. But, Fujifilm should've pushed for it. I think my biggest disappointment is just knowing how good the new 16-50 is, and how I'm using that lens most often with this body now, and knowing it doesn't have IBIS just hurts. The other problem is that ALL my other camera bodies have IBIS and this is the one camera that doesn't, so the mental gymnastics of going back and forth is tough to deal with. First world problems haha.
      But you're right - love all the points you made because it's very very true. I still think you can make incredible shots with this camera, you just need to be a bit more mindful while shooting. Have you picked one up? Sounds like you've decided against it?

      If you also bought the 15-45mm kit lens with the camera, the lens needs updated to the latest firmware. This should solve the problem of the camera turning off.

    I think it is a mistake to not include any photos without edits. I feel like this camera is for people that wants to take pictures with the film simulation and no edit at all. At least that is why i am looking at it, I am currently using Sony ZV-E10.
