Awesome video, obviously a feller who knows what he is doing, different to the way I have done it in Australia but it looks very efficient as well, thumbs up mate!
@Rene Drew it's about as done as it's going to get for now. The winch isn't functioning at the moment because I need a new input shaft. But it can drag logs!
great video thanks for sharing, looking for a 548D myself, but i am curious why this pine was cut at an age where its really starting to put the board feet on?
Andy Naylor Good question and glad you liked the video. This was a timber stand improvement cut. With a bit more space growth rates are vastly improved. Also property tax is quite high in this area. This cut will pay the taxes on the lot for many years.
Because on some wood species the fibers rip apart or the butt log will split rendering an otherwise marketable log worthless. Log buyers won’t buy logs are cracked and ripped apart.
WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND, AS A FORMER LOGGER, IS THESE GUYS HAVE A SKIDDER, THEY DO ALL THE CUTTING AND THE BUNCHING... AS A FORMER LOGGER, II HAD A MAN ON THE SAW AND A MAN ON THE SKIDDER, THAT WAY WE PUT OUT 3 TIMES THE WOOD......THESE GUYS ARE BARELY MAKING ENDS MEET
That man knows what he's doing you can tell he has respect for the woods and his equipment hes a great operator and I'd hire him in a second
Good video,..from standing to felled and skidded out. I could watch skidders working all day.
if u like skidder logging check out some yarder logging as west coast logging stay safe get logs
The best saw, from the best engineers of world , in the greatest country of world.
It’s beautiful. Brings a tear to my eye
I enjoyed the video. It is good to see someone on here who knows how to fell trees and works his machine instead of thrashing it.

Thanks 👍
That’s a nice skidder! And looks like s good lot also. I’d love to be logging now.
Great video! Makes me excited to get my skidder finished so i can go out and log!

If you don't thin your woods out, it just chocks itself out and dies!
great video i want a 540. my 130 franklin couldnt pull about only 1/2 that hitch without throwin out his back lol.
johndeere's are a good skidder but awful tippy on steep ground and hard to work on no finger room
I wish some one would show how the controls work on one!!!!
Where you located
Is it just me or do you think that it would be better to do it in the winter
Do you only work the winter months ?
Former pipe layer looking for work in the woods, I'm 57 years old iv got some experience in the past
Come to maine! Always looking for a good pipe layer in the spring summer and fall and then a logger from December until mud season.
Why were you bore cutting most of the pine
because he was using a stihl
Because on some wood species the fibers rip apart or the butt log will split rendering an otherwise marketable log worthless. Log buyers won’t buy logs are cracked and ripped apart.
Nice dag
what size stihl

EVERY DAY WE PUT OOUT 6 LOADS SOMETIMES 8 LOADS
Smooth Operator But i never liked a 441 Stihl.
Willing to do anything and relocate
Not a smart thing walking in the cable when the tree is falling good way to lose your legs or arms even get killed

Buf working by yourself, what you pull is all yours ! And you don't have to pay workmans comp on employees
