  • In this informative vlog I explain what I do as a car sales consultant and what I've learned as well as depicting on how to sell a automobile. Also in anything you sell the most important key is to know your product knowledge.
    Knowledge is power!

    How odd. I watch your videos and I received a call from a car dealership that I applied at months ago for an interview. I just interviewed and was offered the job with them but have until Friday to decide. And now I see this. The universe seems to have tied this all together. Well good job, Erick.

      What did you end up deciding?? I’m 21 y/o and have been thinking about switching careers to car sales.. how do you like it so far?

    • @stlouisramsfan03
      @stlouisramsfan03 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@blakeibibler I ended up leaving after four days because I was going to have to wait an entire month before my pay would become in-sync. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait that long for pay since I had already not been working. I didn't have enough funds to get myself through the month. Hence why I left. I was sad about it. I liked it actually but I wish I had been trained more about everything beforehand prior to actually selling. I think things would have been less nerve wracking. I'm a semi introvert. Therefore, I prefer to be very knowledgeable about something in order to feel confident about said field or position. I say give it a try. You never know if it'll be life changing, etc. I certainly want another go at the job. I think once I get my finances in check, I will return to it. I say, if you have bills have about a month or a month and half months worth of bills saved up. Also, please really ask about their pay schedule and that you make full sense of it before accepting the job. It'll save you a lot of heartache. Luckily, I kept my other job in case things didn't go well. Give it a try and honestly, you never know! Good Luck! It'd be cool to discuss this together! I did sell one car on my third day. I felt very accomplished.

    Great video! Im a female in my 50s and just now a month ago became a car sales person. I worked in the higher education system prior for 24 years. This is the most fun job ever, but in my opinion this is a young persons job or someone that has the stamina for the long hours and stress that goes along with it. It’s not bad stress. It’s more like an adrenaline rush stress. It’s really great, but not sure how long I’ll be able to keep it going. It’s a very bi-polar job. The highs when selling make you feel in invincible and like youre on top of the world, the lows when its dead and no foot traffic or phone calls, are very depressing. God willing I’ll keep at it for a bit and do well.

    the job is: 1. Show up 2. open the gates 3. wait for customers to explain the internet price to you 3 times while you explain to them the internet price 3 times. rinse repeat until you get one to stay after hearing the internet price is not the real price. p.s. maybe give them the best lowest price you can get to help them

      Here's a thought - list the damn price without 50 disclaimers and fine print...You walk into T-Mobile, how much is this phone? $1200, OK thanks, bye. Car dealerships only have themselves to blame. Show me a dealer where I can walk in, point to a car and ask how much is it? No, sit down, give us all your info, wait 2 hours for 5 different price scenarios.

    • @kaykay5862172
      @kaykay5862172 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Why put a false price online? I just went through this. Me the customer trying to show them the internet price and not understanding why they just don't post the actual price!

    • @tominator028
      @tominator028 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@kaykay5862172 I worked for a CDJR dealership and I can tell you first hand why they do that. Depending on the car and time of year, a certain vehicle will have different incentives, cash bonuses etc. The online price is going to use all the discounts to show the least price possible( you will never qualify for all the incentives, cash bonuses). This price helps there algorithms when they post these vehicles to third party websites(sorting by best deals possible). The car gets a lot more traffic and believe it or not someone who was looking at a scatpack charger online for $44,000 and then come in and end up paying $54,000 out the door. Dealerships get away with it because people will buy them anyway. Until people stop letting it happen and stop buying for more then they should, dealerships will keep up these practices.

    One thing I never realized is the opportunity after car sales. I left car sales strictly due to the lack of growth opportunity as I wanted to move into management or finance. When I left, swear to god I got every email back from every sales consultant job I applied to the next week. Cellular sales, RV sales, motorcycles. But I already accepted a position. Service advising which is pretty close to car sales. Instead you sell service, parts, labor and build great relationships with consumers. Even if you don’t like car sales, it opens the door to growth. Some people like the life style, meaning money. But when you have a family, it doesn’t work out. I will say, those who stuck around as salesman, remained as salesman and often times they were divorced.

I am typically a 15-20 car salesman Permoth. It’s all about maximizing your growth by fact finding with your customer. I made almost $15,000 this past month and I’m on pace to make a little bit more than that this month! Sure, I have had some bad months that have only pulled in about $3000-$5000. Advice for any car buyer..... MAKE OFFERS "OUT THE DOOR" Do not concentrate on monthly payments... get an app to break down car payments... Have your offer in your head before you sit down. When they bring the 4 square out... just take control.. write your "out the door offer". They come back.. say no... get up.. walk away. They will find you if you're close to a deal.

    • @ErickRonaldo

    I'd roll all over this kid....
    Simple formula, here it is.
    MSRP (Sticker)
    Dealer Invoice ( What did they pay for it)
    Holdback: This is what the Manufacturer pays the dealership to sell the car.
    After you know all that, you can make an offer.
    Start low and counter up if they don't go for it.

    I started selling CDJR @ the largest volume store in the south east when I was 19 YRS OLD... Came in off the street with $85 in my pocket driving my son's mom's old Hyundai accent hatchback... My very first day I sold a pre-owned Mitsubishi Lancer Evo to a young man named Jaun Rivera who blessed me with the 2003 Mazda DX that was in perfect condition with a sunroof that he intended on trading but they offered him $300 so he literally gave the keys to me and told me he'll be back Friday to sign over title which I doubted because of course buyers are liers but he was a man of his word and not to mention I made about $1150 commission on the deal with the car being a trade in and our payplan was great 30% front 7.25% on back $200 mini on new but a measly $75 mini on used and that thing was extremely fast it only had a small oil leak which caused the car to smoke once the oil touched a hot spot on the engine... I put that thing in the service lane got all my employee discounts and got that thing right....I had great managers who wanted to see me win my GSM was 23 years old at the time only 4 years older than me we are great friends to this day but he was instant motivation to get to grinding and that's exactly what I did my first 3 years I worked everyday monday-saturday from 8:30-9:30 and it paid off I made the most money in those three years than the years following because my grind and mind was on getting me and my son and his mom out of my mom's house first year I did about 80k second year was at 88k and by the 3rd year I was seasoned enough to take the green peas under my wing and get easy free deals just by closing their deals and that was the best decision I ever made because I showed my GSM that I can lead without being asked to do so and that year the 3rd year I made 106k and was promoted to floor manager or closer depends on what your dealership calls it... I never crossed 100k again after making The closer position but I was always at the door usually like between 96k-98k thanks to my mom who didn't charge me to live with her even tho I always threw mom's some bread I was able to save between 30%-50% of my cash for the first 3 years and moved out... I approach sales a little different than others tho I'm not the salesman who try to be friends with the customer I'll converse with you but I came to do business not meet and greet I'm gonna know the car inside and out give you a great presentation and Walk around I'm gonna be pressed and dry cleaned in the finest fabrics I could find in a thrift store or goodwill store... But im usually even kill when dealing with customers because I don't want them to see a change in my demeanor when they object or need to think about it and when you're too friendly they always try to chip $$ off the price so no we are not friends I'll be professional but will never give a car away just to say I sold 1 I'd rather you leave in what you came in than to make $75 mini on a used car that I know can make money on if not for me maybe for a coworker can make money unless I'm a unit away from bonus then idgaf what we sell it to you for I need the next level bonus
    Tip 1.Eat breakfast at home pack your own lunch and if and only if you're working late buy dinner out you'll save alot a money atleast $30 a day just from eating
    Tip 2. Shop at goodwill and thrift stores my whole wardrobe is Banana Republic Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren you'd think I spent a fortune to look like I do but man I pay no more than $7-$10 for any article of clothing
    Tip 3. Always take initiative if it's slow take your laptop outside and make phone calls from the point
    Tip 4. If your dealership has a BDC department make those your friends usually they are a group of pretty ass women who set the appointments for the entire dealership
    Tip 5. Always lie to customer about your age and experience I'm 32 but look like a 22 year old so I use that to my advantage making them look at me like a kid who don't know much who they believe they can fast talk or hustle

      So our system pretty much calculates the cost of the vehicle depending on where the resident lives due to tax purposes. The rest of the cost apply’s to all the customers including the msrp, processing fee, destination fee and tags/title. Also to try to give the best deal we give a lot incentives to get the best price depending on each individual’s situation.

    I’ve gotten thousands off the price it’s possible but you need to shop around. I once bought a 2014 get premium that was listed for 37k out the door. I found another one 5 hours away that was 28k I didn’t do no credit app until I had agreed to the terms. Any time you buy a car make sure you know the details and shop around. I also bought when the models where hitting the lots so they wanted to get the 14s off the lots.

    • @michaelhuebner6843
      @michaelhuebner6843 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That has more to do with manufacturer rebates than dealership pricing. You also must understand that all models have different trim levels which upgrade many things about a vehicle and increase it's price and value. Dealership are going to be within $1,000 of price of each other because of competition and the fact that dealers list their prices on the internet for all to see. There is very little wiggle room to negotiate. The cost to run a dealership is way more expensive than the average consumer understands.

    • @chris_breezy4961
      @chris_breezy4961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless of how good the deal is you should always have gap insurance in my opinion. The only rule I suggest you don’t have it is if you already put down more than 20% for down payment or you plan on paying it fast. If anything have it for the first 2 years at least because you’ll be underwater with the car. I’ve had a few customers owing $5-10k because they didn’t have gap and their insurance wouldn’t pay the rest. I don’t recommend extended warranties either but if I did it would only be for European vehicles. I hated working on them and parts are expensive asf

      lol... maybe in 1982; but these days you clearly do not understand how car dealerships make money these days. A vast majority of a car dealerships profits come from the "back end" of the deal... they make money when you finance the vehicle (the bank pays them commissions for steering the loan to them). Saying I am paying CASH just guaranteed that you will not get the best deal. Letting them believe you may finance the vehicle with them makes them more likely to be willing to lose money on the front end of the deal since they can make money in the back end. By telling them you are paying cash you lose that leverage so they know they have to make all the money on the front end of the deal since there is no back end profits to be made.

      1) I work at a high volume Mercedes-Benz Dealership. We are actually the best dealership in terms of pricing, so there's not a whole lot of gross in cars but we sell a fuck ton. Our pay plan is bonus-based, for example 10 cars = 1k bonus, 20 cars = $5k bonus. Then you also get 200$ mini's for every car you sell. If you do the math 20 cars = $9k MINIMUM. We also Markup G-Wagons, Maybachs, and other models. The Maybach's and G-wagons get up to a 50k Markup. So if you sell one of those babies full pop that's a $12.5k commission off one car.

    I'm guessing the management has not been upfront with you on much they actually make on a vehicle. There is a markup or profit. Then there is the residual/holdback. And other occasional incentives. What really turns me off to a dealership is silly ripoff add ons like paint and fabric protectant or the vin number glass etch. Then there is the "processing" fee scam. Lol. $799 at your dealership! Let me ask every salesman, manager, and owner, how would you feel if when checking out at the grocery store, the cashier added $10 for "processing" your purchase? You know, to cover the cost of them doing what they're paying someone to do in the first place! What a joke.

    how do auto salesman start out with no experience? i got my license a few weeks ago and have submitted for 30+ jobs and haven’t gotten any responses, not even rejection letters. most jobs say 1+ years of experience required, but even the ones that say entry level or training provided haven’t gotten back to me. idk if it matters but im in socal so there’s a lot of dealerships to apply for, but still nothing. what am i doing wrong

    I was just wondering I’m thinking about getting into the car sales business I wanted to know how your pay plan is set up and I know that the pay is based off commission for every car you sell for the month do you get a base salary pay every week as well I heard some dealer ships do it like that what’s your pay plan like

    • @ErickRonaldo
      @ErickRonaldo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s varies with dealership and of course the manufacturer so the pay plan will be totally different at which ever dealer you plan to work at.

    Credit app? Lol that's exactly what they want.... I'd recommend talking to your financial advisor before signing yourself up for 36 to 72 months worth of payments. Remember, dealers make money off of finance, not the vehicle sale.

    What kind of skills do you need to be a salesman? Do you need to always and keep contacting potential clients? Do you have to be outgoing? And will companies let you go if you don't meet a quota? Thanks boss

    • @ErickRonaldo
      @ErickRonaldo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I started off as a Car porter and one of my managers saw that I had potential. So I had no experience whatsoever. Yes, you need to be contacting clients through phone calls, emails and text messages. Yes, it is very important to be outgoing because that is what will you sell you the car. Just be yourself and confident and you got it. I used to be very timid but thanks to one of my managers that taught me how to not give any f*cks. Yes, you need to sell at least 8 cars a month also vary's and what dealership you are working at. No problem, glad I could help.

      I unfortunately don’t work there anymore but start off as a car porter and from there understand how the car industry operates. From there you’ll ask one of your managers that you want to get into sales. Easiest route to get into sales when you’re really young 🙏 let me know how your journey goes buddy!
