I support those over scheduled children who are depressed and anxious with ptsd and cptsd. As a single mother raising my son on a very low income while juggling three jobs, I made it my mission to ensure he lived in peace, he always felt loved, heard, and valued. His mental health was my top priority from the day he was born. At 26 he has never drank or vaped and he never will. We often found free activities to enjoy, and our home became a welcoming space for connection, not just for him but for the neighborhood kids as well. Whenever he showed an interest in something, we made it work within our means. As a holistic energy healer since the 1980s, I prioritized healthy sleep hygiene, physical activity, connecting in nature, and an understanding of the healing power of food. From an early age, I taught him the importance of gratitude and self-compassion. These priorities allowed us to create a balanced life rooted in love, connection, and emotional well-being, even amidst challenges. sending loving kindness from Canada's Capital. We are all doing the best we can and when we know better we can do better.
Kids learn from what we do more than what we say. When my son was little, there was immense pressure to keep him engaged constantly so he didn't tear the doors off. We tried that plan for about a year but it was emotionally unsustainable for all of us. Now I try to limit the programs to 2 per season and that fits our lifestyle better.
I would have to agree that kids today are overscheduled, but parents need to know their child, this could work for some. I also find that parents are overscheduled because they are overscheduling their kids so we just need to stop with being busy all the time!
For me it's the parents that have their kids in 5 different things. My child is 10 and is in rep ball and filipino ball, practice 3 times a week and sometimes have 6 games in a weekend. Some may say it's too much but the memories he creates with his friends and thw family time we have is irreplaceable. We ask him from time to time if he likes it still and remind him its ok to stop. I would say to parents know first what you are gettkng yourself into. Avoid getting them into multiple activities if the one activity takes up a lot of your time and prepare meals ahead of time.
Yes totally agree the over scheduled children cant figure out something to do in their limited down time always need entertained .busy . I knew a child that had stomach problems the dr figured out the child was so over scheduled they didnt have time to relax and go to the bathroom(poop)
