I don't know about the salary package in Assam. And the course is good, but what matters is how well are you able to utilise the course. Comparing it with food technology is like comparing apples with oranges. Both are different and good in their own way. See, if you are passionate and interested in the subject, go for it.

It is basics of material balance and I can't say for which year because different colleges could have different curriculum.
