Litfiba started in Italy 30 years ago from what were left of the embers of punk entwined with New Wave and combing their shared influences to form a home made brand of anarchic rock. Singing in their native Italian they soon became a national institution with the release of the hugely successful album 'El Diablo' in 1990.
Music-News.com caught up with Piero Pelu and Federico (Ghigo) Renzulli, backstage prior to their London Forum gig and found these free spirits in jovial mood but nonetheless staunchly political as ever, outing mafia families living in the UK reportedly involved in criminal drug activity, even if that had gone way over my head at the time.
Still, in the mish-mash of Anglo-Italian talk I did manage to point some questions their way and try to discover why, since their reunion, Litfiba is as dominant and controversial a vehicle as ever before.
