It's not often I will watch a 47 minute video, but as a decades long time T Jet racer this was fascinating. I don't think anyone in my T Jet racing circle ever restored one this meticulously. Never saw the dental floss trick under the gears.
I remember cleaning and lubing these cars when I was 10-12 years old back in the early 70s. I also remember losing a pick up spring or two in the carpet.
I just want to say a BIG thank you for this video. I've never had the patience to really get after one of these engines, but I just did my first one, and it went from not running to being super, super, fast. I have hundreds to go through, but chalk #1 as in the books. Thanks again...Great Video!
I have that exact car in that color but in near mint. The great thing about old Aurora T-Jets is that parts are available for repair and restoration. Solid rivet christmas tree armature that's a mid 60s car. Molotow pen available at Hobby Lobby or online. White vinegar takes off old decals.
I agree. It's awesome that someone could actually start this hobby now, 55 years later, and be able to find everything they need to enjoy it completely.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Always wanted to know how to clean behind the motor and gears and using the dental floss definitely does the job. I’ve cleaned a lot of Aurora slot cars but never this thoroughly! It looks great. Can’t wait to clean mine this way.
Great job, looks like new! I love to work on the old cars. I have a drag strip and I just run T-jets and afx mag AND non mags only. Run them hard, then take them apart and clean them again. That's the fun part!!!

Awesome you brought back memories of how I rebuild this car my self back in the 60’s I had the same car and track I used to break the fasteners that held the track together plus the metal rods two on each side which kept me from put the track together.Then I would beg my mom to take me to the hobby store to buy spare parts for track and maybe I would get a new car as well . With all the cars we had me and my brother would cannibalis other spare cars to make another work or run faster. Best toy I ever had as a kid . Thanks for the video you made my day ..

That is something I probably should have done but I was trying to keep the length of the video as short as possible. I have another video of the layout on TH-cam.
@@jamesdignan145 Thanks I have one on order! Have you ever made a copper cleaning mixture of 1 cup water 1 cup white vinegar and a tablespoon of salt brought to a boil in a small pot? I cleaned all the copper parts in a bout 15 seconds. Not the armature. I even cleaned the chassis. without axles and wheels and armature.
@@larrymeyers2627 I tried something you might find interesting. I basically emptied a can of Easy-Off into a jar and sealed it. Then I let it settle down until it was one-hundred-percent goop. Then I applied it with a Q-tip. And then I let it sit for several hours. While it still had an odor it seems like it was reduced by 90%. And obviously there was no spray in the air. So thanks for your comment it inspired me to do some thinking around more effective ways to use the easy off. Thanks again.
@@larrymeyers2627 I now plan on keeping the Easy-Off goof stored in a glass jar and use it as needed. I'm not sure if that will work or not but I'll find out.
I've used Easy-Off now a few times like a group. I keep it in a glass jar and brush it on where is needed. It has worked perfectly. And the odor is virtually eliminated. Thanks for inspiring me to think along these lines.

Those little white plastic "staple" things. One leg would always break.

You can also use an ohm meter on your armature before assembly. That will tell you right away if it is good or not.

I used white vinegar to clean the copper.

Hi, what voltage is requieren for these car ? I have one from scaletric that is 16v and 0.5A but I don’t know if that is good or not.

The voltage is low, the current is acceptable. It won't harm the cars at all.
Try a ultrasonic clean it can change you life in cleaning

The dental floss that I use is actually from Melaleuca.
Please search for dental tape instead of dental floss.
A Dremmel with a wire wheel would cut the cleaning time down by half.

Easy Off works better taking paint off the Body.
I agree. And I use it when needed. The vapors have to be toxic.
