    As explained in the video, they are not harmed by getting them to the surface and treated with utmost care.
    It has been proven in scientific research on the Great Barrier Reef that they can be recatched and have had normal growth and no stress marks between the different catches (which can be seen in the coloured rings on their shell).

    Bucket list stuff. I've been facinated with nautiluses ever since I was a kid. On my local beach we used to find lots of ammonite fossils, and to see something so similar still alive today is heartening. I'd love to dive with them one day. The closest I've had so far is the mighty fine cuttlefish we often get to see (and sometimes interact with, they're quite confident!) here :)

    • @charlieapples9373
      @charlieapples9373 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Nautiluses aren’t completely stupid, but they’re not nearly as intelligent as squid and octopuses. They rely on drifting around until they eventually find food, whereas squid and octopuses are much more active predators which developed complex brains to help them strategize and hunt more efficiently. Plus, squid and octopuses don’t have protective external shells, so they also have to be smart enough to evade other predators.
      Nautiluses by comparison are pretty dang chill, scooting around in groups and eating whatever they find floating in the ocean. They’re not built for speed or power, they’re just passing through lookin’ for some dead stuff to chow down on.

      Why. Simple fact of life. Get over it. Nature is not fair. Nature does not care if you can't survive. Either you adapt or you die. Nature is not the butterflies and rainbows and peace and love people think it is. Any outdoorsman knowns that nature is a fickle bitch that takes as much as she gives.
