Okay I have never flipped to the end of a book before to see if the ending is worth it but I really like the boldness of that hahaha. Also, I feel you on Best Friend's Exorcism. Both of the Gradix Hendry books I have read so far have had content that went over the line for me. Anyway, Heeeeeck yes for being back with Rohan!! Perfectly said, this series just doesn't get old 🤩
YESSSS we are in agreement on Hendrix. The September house was just giving me a vibe of im not gonna enjoy this experience. I VERY rarely flip to the back but here i feel it was justified. Rohan is AWESOME
“I have to assume the main character has poor survival instincts”😂😂😂. I feel like that when watching horror-typically. That said, I reason is by saying I have no idea how I’d react with that sort of stress being thrust upon me. I also really enjoy ray porter as a narrator with the terminal list series when I first started it
That's very interesting on the reaction to My Best Friend's Exorcism. Whatver the scene was, I could picture my mother-in-law as the parent and it would probably fit her just fine. Yes, she is truly an awful human being. It sucks to be that far into a book and have it hit you that you should DNF! I hope the rest of the month works out better for you. I finished Jade Legacy this last weekend... man what a series. She really let you feel the loss of people and it hurt.
@@christhewritingjester3164 I am fortunate to have two great MIL. But the scene revolves around a possible SA and the reaction of the characters pissed me off
@@AndrewsWizardlyReads Unfortunately, that still fits my MIL to a T, probably for the exact same things going on in that book. There's a reason none of her kids talk to her anymore. But her dad remarried a while ago and the step-MIL is great, so we're not lacking in decent grandparents.
I had a lot of DNF this month, including my first middle grade DNF this year. I had the worst kind of DNF this month. You know your getting old when you are explaining what VHS is 😂 Grady Hendrix has been a hit or a miss for me and I though my best friends exorcism was just ok. @@AndrewsWizardlyReads ahhhh yes. Spoiler It’s tough with scenes like that because like you said there is a suspension of disbelief but at the same time it in my opinion is poor writing if you have to resort to strawmanning an imaginary exaggerated version of parents to make the point
@@AndrewsWizardlyReads Good to know. I appreciate the honesty, I like to have realistic expectations before going into a story I tend to enjoy them more
***Spoilerish thoughts ahead for My Best Friend’s Exorcism*** I think for that scene in My Best Friend’s Exorcism, you have to take the time period in which it takes place into consideration. Unfortunately, my older sister who was a teen in the 1980’s faced something similar with my very conservative “Christian” dad. It is sad, but at that time SA was not taken seriously by many people and when it happened it was commonly blamed on the girl. It was very rarely prosecuted, but if you go back and read transcripts from that time when it did go to trial, I think your jaw would be on the floor at how arcane and inhumane the thinking was. It was always the girl’s fault for what she wore, how she acted, or for not fighting it off hard enough. Gross 🤢 but unfortunately not inaccurate.
Please dont take offense to this but I think you are reading too many at once. You end up gravitating to the ones that peak your interest more and then go into the others with a less positive outlook if they arent as good. I know this happens to me with my adhd. I could be 100% wrong.
