    Those contacts as well as the plug connector outside the tank are notoriously known causes for bad fuel level readings and the fuel pump itself not working.. I have seen many people replace their fuel pump because of a bad connection as well.. GM really caused a bunch of unnecessary problems with those horrible designed connectors all over their vehicles.. I worked at a Chevy dealer and if the average person only knew all the bulletins and causes of reoccurring problems for the same failures and complaints they probably wouldn’t believe that any company would be allowed to get away with what they do.. I used to really enjoy auto repair because I really felt good about being able to help people.. I know how much we all depend on our vehicles and spend our hard earned money in good faith that with the premium we pay for vehicles, we would be getting our money’s worth.. Not so much as it turns out.. Dealers have all of the factories support, knowledge, technology, and every bit of information ever needed to fix and maintain all their products.. So they know what breaks and why.. They even know when stuff will fail within a few thousand miles.. Turns out the dealers are just heartless money hungry lying bastards.. I wish I learned what I know now a long time ago.. I would’ve been a plumber or something.. It’s great to know a lot and be a skilled auto technician, but there are way too many outside negative factors that come with the trade today

    What could cause a fuel gauge to slowly go up, after filling the tank with gas. Other cars it goes up instantly but in my 1994 accord it takes at least a full minute for the gauge to read accurately.
    Also in case this has to do with anything, my car is running rich, cause the spark plugs look black with carbon and I also smell gas at the exhaust after one spark plug failed

  • @brodygreer5901
    @brodygreer5901 ปีที่แล้ว

    Modern fuel tanks are pvc/abs material. Plastic swells and shrinks in different environments. That's said the factory sets your fuel gauge with a +3% difference to make up for the difference. So example. During the summer heat of your mileage gauge is saying you're getting 15.4 mpg. You're truly getting a solid 15 mpg. But ideally in the winter, it's true. Knowing this. If you start to notice a difference of 5%+ when you fuel up vs. what the computer says you used. Then you know it's time for injectors or pump.
    This is coming from experience. Take it or leave it.

    • @brodygreer5901
      @brodygreer5901 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always test your pump yourself too if need to. A good pump will run 50psi+ at idle, and hold 40psi minimum shut off. Normally injectors are too blame for the difference. Hard starts, poor fuel mileage, no power that's a filter or a regulator

    How much was that new fuel assembly? For my 98 silverado, oem is hundreds. A separate issue i have is my fuel gauge needle vibrates really fast, it almost looks blurry, it's still fairly accurate though. I know it's not the fuel pump cause I've replaced it and didnt change the needle

      try measuring the signal coming from the fuel level sensor, ideally with a scope. Maybe the vibration is already in there. You can also check the power feed to the fuel tank, maybe the power is fluctuating due to a corroded connector. If all of these are OK then the problem is in your dashboard (these tests are of the category 'easier said than done' but it's nice to point at exactly where the problem is)

      @Netherlands031 a year later I got a Bosch fuel pump assembly. The gas needle no longer vibrates. But it shows lower gas level than what's in there. Also she won't fire up after sitting over night

    A bunch of steps were missed due to the short format. Do more research before trying at home!!

    A vacuum cleaner and some solvent fumes were enough to almost burn a house down. Happened to a friend of mine 20 years ago. Be mega cautious about using vacuums with combustible fumes. Just saying.

    Putting the fuel pump in the gas tank is one of the stupidest ideas of all time. I know they did it and it works, but still.

    Their is a proper tool to remove the lock ring. Instead of a hammer and a punch even if it is brass. Just Sayin
