Title is misleading as Mike doesn't actually explain it here, he just shows that the numbers represent certain punches, which in itself is pretty obvious. The reason behind why he and his coaches used numbers instead of the names of individual punches is so his opponents found it harder to decipher what was incoming from Mike's combinations.

that numerical system was developed in Italy because left , right, cross, upper ( in italian) are multi sylabe words ( destra, sinistra, croso, montante, incontro, gancio) When sparring or training, coach can word a combo faster saying single sylabe numbers.( un, du, tre, qua, cin , sei, set , ott, no)

I like to call it dialing in punches
For anyone confused about the purpose of the numbers. He's using a number for each move so his combos can be consistently referenced/commented on in the different countries he fights in.
1=left punch
2=right punch
3=left kick (mike rarely uses this 1 in the ring)
4=right kick (also rare)
5=macro for 1+4
6=macro for 2+3
7=this is mike's rage art
He's a boxer, he ain't got no kick. Think of him like Steve Fox.

I don't know if it's his favorite, but my favorite of his was always that right hook to the body followed by the fast right uppercut.
Left to the liver was probably his most devastating punch.
His right hook was absolutely devastating.
That was my favorite combo of his. He made it his own. For single punch his left hook was the bomb.

The annoying part at the end (perhaps for Tyson too) is the interviewer clearly not knowing basics for orthodox stance; you don't "set things up" with the right hand, that's payoff following a jab (which Tyson clarifies by saying it's the 1-2).

We had the same thing but we used a 1 to 6 system, attaching Bs (e.g. 1B, 2B,) and Os for Overhand when we mean a body shot.
1, 2, 3B, 2O = Jab, Straight, Left Hook to the Body, Rear Overhand
