    Well said! Best not to talk politics or religion or be too open about your views/beliefs regarding denomination, ideology, etc. in such situations! I too have learned this the hard way! Thank You for sharing your story!

      Y is our favorite, too. Coincidentally, it's the one we carry. If we hadn't been carrying it already, we would have started.

    This is a fantastic shootout! My initial preferences are the same for all three: Mic Y, then Z, then X. Y totally smokes X and Z in the Metallica octave viola test (way more low end!).
    Congrats on the haircut!
    EDIT: WOW I wasn't expecting the reveal answers. New champion mic!?

      We were with you. Y is far and away our favorite. And it's the one we happen to carry. We probably would have changed what we carry if it hadn't turned out that way.

      Yup. I was quite surprised. All have their uses, but if you are mic-ing very small sections, or soloists, or want to add a little character to the principals in a larger orchestra, the PS is awesome

    Thanks for this video. Very informative. And congratulations, even if it's a late shout out. Found your video today. Got a DPA already but thinking of the TL47. So yeah, great help.

    That's like every review should be done, great job. I find the Shure the most musical with the best rejection even if it lacks the detail of the DPA.

    I actually prefer the Z mic = DPA 4099v... love the sound... thinking of playing classical pieces using this! wow! thanks for this very comprehensive video!

    I like mic y it brings a clear presence across all the strings even o the octave viola.

    I’m wondering if you aren’t comparing apples to oranges here. The dpa 4099v has a high pass filter built into the XLR adapter that rolls off frequencies below 100 Hz, because violins and many other instruments don’t need response below that frequency. The PS-IMK, on the other hand, claims to be suitable for all instruments, including double bass, so we might assume that it lacks a high pass filter. (I couldn’t find specs for that mic online.) You had no reason to expect the dpa 4099v to perform well with your octave viola (cello range). Could that be the source of the enhanced bass response you perceived from the PS-IMK? A fairer test might have been the PS-IMK vs the dpa 4099c (cello).

      So I'd have to buy two DPAs if I have a violin and a chin cello in order to sound almost as good as one PS-IMK?

    • @markbouquet8784
      @markbouquet8784 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The cello dpa lacks that high pass filter, so if you wanted that range to accommodate both a violin and a “chin cello,” (how many players have one of those) you could buy a dpa 4099c only, along with a violin clip, and have the same frequency range as the PS-IMK.
      My point was that Chuck Bontrager found the bass response lacking with the dpa 4099v, and there’s a perfectly rational explanation for why that would be true. The dpa 4099v has a limited bass response BY DESIGN.
      Also, that high pass filter is in the XLR adapter of the dpa 4099v. Someone who owns that model could buy the XLR adapter that’s included with the dpa 4099v, for about $100 if my memory is serving me well now, and have that full frequency range too.
      Bottom line: it wasn’t fair to criticize the dpa for lacking that bass response when it was designed for different applications.

      @markbouquet8784 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typo: I meant to say that someone with a 4099v could buy the XLR adapter supplied with the 4099(c), and then have the full frequency range.

    The TL47 is just the Lavalier, what package gives the mic clip?

    I was looking into purchasing a TL47 for my violin. I didn't notice the behind the bridge clip on mount being offered. Is that something that I would need to order extra?

    Hi, I want to buy a good amplifier for my YEV 105. Does the Vox Ac 15 is a good choice?

    Has anyone paired the PS-IMK with the new Sennheiser EW-D SK wireless transmitter? Sennheiser mentioned that they had to add more shielding to their existing lav mics, and I'm wondering if the PS-IMK will be fine in that regard. Seems like the PS-IMK with the new EW-D wireless set would be an ideal combo (although $1100 total cost).

      As long as it can provide phantom power and has the correct connector, it should work fine.

    I was looking to buy the Shure TL47 but, in their product pictures, I cannot see the bridge clip. Is this purchasable separately? I only ask after having looked for an hour.

      I wouldn't know. We don't carry that particular mic. Sorry!
