Gotta Love Mother Nature

We had a major snow storm, 16" of snow with blowing and drifting. We dug our way to the shed and prepared for the storm by filling all the feeders with hay and putting down fresh straw. The next day we were able to return. The path to the shed was drifted over with about a 6 foot drift. So, we had to dig another path through the hay field to the shed. It took 2 hours to get the path dug out. The dog feeding stations were covered with snow so the dogs couldn't go in to feed. We dug those out and all the dogs ate. We filled the hay feeders again and bedded with lots of straw as it is to turn bitterly cold tonight. The snow had caused about a foot of manure/snow slush around the sheep feeder so we used the tractor to clear that off to the side, so they have solid footing again. It's our first winter with livestock so we are learning a lot. One thing is for sure, we will need snow fences next year to reduce the drifting in the driveways. Thanks for joining us!

Thanks, Cindy. They have started some of the plumbing work on the house and they installed the fireplace (too bad it's not hooked up to the gas so we can use it lol). It was 33 this morning at the farm and now it is down to 13! This next week will be challenging but we will get through it in good shape.

Brrrrr I went to college in Wyoming in the 70’s. -65 air temp excluding wind chill. Makes warming up and driving a vehicle slow! Good luck!

Good the sheep and goats can handle the cold.
You can ask old man winter to blow that cold air over to eastern Pennsylvania so we can have snow instead of rain. Then our children would love to built ⛄️ and go sledding like I did as a child.

Thanks, it was a really heavy, wet snow. We were glad we could get back out today and fill the feeders and check on everyone. Also very glad to scrape the paddock so the sheep were not knee deep in the manure/snow slush that had formed. So glad we are not lambing right now!
