Will apple be the next leader of the VR arms race?

I don't know why people are saying they will hold off on Pimax or Big Screen's headsets to see what Apple will do. I can't imagine Apple creating something that is compatible with Steam VR. Their focus will probably be more Apple Eco system. Virtual Monitors, Communication and productivity. ... sounds like a Quest Pro that doesn't play games. Hope I am wrong.

@@laartwork sadly I would have to agree. Bigscreen and Pimax should arrive as fully formed products but the reality pro may take years to get the support it needs to be a very engaging proposition by which time they will be nearing a gen 2 version.

@@laartwork ---- People who say Apple would ship something that "that doesn't play games" is laughable. They forget that Apple is the largest game seller in the world. The App Store dwarfs Playstation or Xbox in terms of revenue and makes them look like tiny cute businesses. About 60% of the App Store's revenue comes from games. Now which company on this earth would ignore 60% of the revenue from their enormous store? I can assure you, not Apple.
Now there are always those who argue Apple doesn't have many AAA games. This is a problem that is solved by starting their own game studio. Recent rumors have indeed mentioned such a studio. They (with their billions) can steal away the best talent in the game world. This is a similar problem to what they already solved in TV and movies. Hire the best producers, directors, and actors and before long they had an award winning library of original content. Games are just another form of content.

Apple should sell these like a line of Smart phones with monthly payments rather than opting for a full $3000 US sticker price if they actually want a shot at making VR main stream, because based on the specs this seems like the real deal. No compromises have been made compared to PSVR2 and Quest 3.
Yet what's really annoying is that there are too many people trashing VR(Don't deny until you try ;) ) and saying the tech isn't there yet, but that's because compromises have to be made in order to make them affordable. Problem is, VR shouldn't be treated as some 'accessory', it needs to be viewed as an alternative to TV. I mean, people are willing to spend over $3000 for a 65" QD-OLED, so why not fork over $3000 for a premium and incredible VR experience IF it's got the games, augmented reality features and Apps etc to back it up?
The specs & design are there. 4000x4000 per eye resolution, 120d FOV, pancake lenses + Micro OLED, all inclusive, portable and wireless etc. This thing will trounce the PSVR2. But lets get real here, 4K per eye won't be doable for anything other than AR.
You cannot get PS4-tier graphics in VR with 4K per eye @90fps on a stand lone headset or even the PS5.
PS3-tier graphics(like Moss Book 2) run at 90fps on PSVR2, but this most likely will not be the case with Apple VR. since VR headsets are thermal, there's no way it's packing the horse power of a PS5. PS4, maybe.

@Fido Dido ---- Apple already sells laptops at $2500 and above with a 1 year interest free program. If they extend the period to 24 months they can get the monthly down to around $120. The iPhone already has 2 year programs, so it's very possible. Also I have a suspicion that a game is being played about the $3000 price point. By sacrificing their usual margins a bit, they can fairly easily get the price down to $2500 and make up the difference on accessories.
In terms of the chip this will be a low-power (low heat) version of the M3 (aka A17). The preliminary benchmarks on this family have been very impressive, so we have to wait and see about comparisons to other devices.

You just know their controllers will be £500 minimum. If they can charge £700 for a set of wheels, they can charge whatever they please for a set of VR controllers.

haha thats a good point, it doesn't necessarily matter that they could make them cheap without tracking built it, they charge what they want.

My prediction: This thing will come out, TH-cam will go crazy about it for a month, then it will fade into total obscurity only spoken about by Apple fanboys.

    • @RushReality
      @RushReality  ปีที่แล้ว

Haha very possible, though TH-cam may even struggle to get excited about if the cost stops it from getting into anyone’s hands. I think it’s very possible gen 1 will mainly be useful for devs who create things for their next headset, they are rumoured to release a more a second version in 2025 if you can trust the rumours.

@Jamie Salmon Sculpture ---- I know, you should be the first fellow on your block to write an article about Apple failing with the headset. Be like the clowns who wrote such tripe about the Apple Watch or even the famous bozo who wrote about the Apple store closing after 1 year. It's funny we haven't heard much from the Apple store "expert" since Apple now has 500 of the most profitable retail stores in the world. They also sell around 50 million watches per year, more than any other company including traditional watch companies.
People seem to forget that Apple does enormous numbers. In active use there are 1.2 billion iPhones and total active devices of 1.8 billion. Last two years they've cash flowed over 100 billion dollars in each year. Finding 1 million of those users who want to try some new sexy tech should be fairly easy. I actually think they'll double that low-ball goal. Remember, they're really good at guessing which way the market will go and have a huge advantage of an existing ecosystem.

SO MANY inaccuracies in this video. Sorry but last thing the TH-cam VR community needs is a naive Apple faboi
