It's not the norm to see a group of entertaining, skilled videographers, producing a hiking video in the length of an entire movie and it's not a compilation of "the best moments of 30 days", rather just one day. It's amazing how your story telling makes it feel like I'm part of this and this series is just so relaxing and captivating to watch because of that. Each one of you plays a huge role in this series being so awesome, really - it's just amazingly refreshing to watch a hiking tour this detailed. I'd much rather always watch this kind of pace compared to a 10 minutes highlight clip of an entire journey. Amazing work you four. Thanks for sharing!
2x!!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Really appreciate it, and thanks so much for watching :)
Best part is about 15 min in when Andrew said it wasn't that bad of a hike but looked like he just climbed out of a lake lol
I’m a 17 year old girl who dreams of living in the countryside of Japan. I just happened to stumble upon your channel and watched the first video of this hike and fell in love with this series. I feel like I’m walking this hike myself and it somewhat feels like you guys are fulfilling my dreams for me to some extent. Keep it up ❤
literally me!! : D
Hey, if you are serious then you can find guided tours of this trail any many others in Japan. I used the service called Walk Japan(they have a nice website). My trip was amazing. I walked 200+ miles in central Japan.
Go back and watch their old japan trips, they are all great
I started studying Japanese at 17, now 25 and have lived in Tokyo for 4 years.
Japan is an amazing place to live and I will live here for many more years.
I hope your dreams come true, don't give up whatever anyone says!
Waiting for you from Japan ❤
You guys just made The Best Kumano Kodo hike series on TH-cam. Hiked the trail in 2023 and this series just made me so incredibly happy. Thank you for capturing the genuine spirit of this hike. 🙏🥰
The Kumano Kodo trail in Japan is like stepping into a magical world where ancient paths wind through stunning forests and lead to sacred shrines. People have been walking these trails for centuries, finding peace and spirituality along the way. It's not just about hiking; it's about connecting with nature and yourself, this video shows the beauty and the experience of the trail.
This was a tale of two hikes. Double the adventure when the teams split up and go different routes and the reuniting is always the best part. Those were some tough climbs, it seems in Japan, the trails don't mess around, it's going vertical right away but beauty is all around. Well done to all of you! 👏 Appreciate the shoutout and the sentiment @RobbyHuang Laces out mofo!! 🏈🦵 You should get a tryout with the Colts Robby great distance on that one! 👍
Hi guys was day 1 that bad, or was it because it was so hot? I live on the pre-St James trail (before Vezelay) and it looked similar to what we have. Easier since it was paved. Would love you to come do it. btw
Wow, watching this video gave me such a rush of adventure! As a student who loves hiking but had to take a break due to a tailbone injury last November, this virtual journey was just what I needed. The scenery is breathtaking, and your video truly transported me there. Thank you for sharing your incredible experience. I can't wait until I'm healed and back on the trails myself! Keep these amazing videos coming!
私は日本人の女性です。いつか熊野古道を訪れたいと思っていましたが、このビデオを見て、思ってたよりも整っていることがわかりました。詳細な案内に感謝します。ありがとうございます。
not gonna lie, my teacher recommending your youtube channel was one of the best thing ever. Great video and great content please dont stop making content like these!!
Thanks so much for this experience. Financially I wasn't able to visit Japan since 2010. And I miss it so much. This really gave me an experience I long for from the bottom of my heart. Each hike is like being with you guys on those trails and with Japan it even means a bit more to me personally because Japan was always the country my heart belonged to since I was a little boy (today soon 41). Cheers from Vienna~
Forest leech attacks? Land crabs? Giant, awesome looking structures in the woods? Mountains? Shrines? Watching this episode felt like I was playing a videogame or watching the Twilight Zone. 😂 You guys have some great trips! Lives well lived! 👍🏻
Your video was a pleasant surprise for me. As someone who has a strong desire to travel but is currently limited by circumstances, your detailed representation of the trail and your experience was nothing short of enthralling. Each frame appeared to convey me to the center of the event, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the natural beauty and rich tapestry of history that was woven along the way. Your attention to detail, both during filming and editing, is excellent and deeply appreciated. Despite the difficulties posed by encounters with leeches, your excitement and real passion of discovery shined through, making the entire experience thoroughly delightful. Thank you for sharing your trip with so much attention and dedication. It really was remarkable journey.
It is an amazing experience to hike the historic Kumano Kodo Trail to the world's largest Japanese gate. Entering hallowed grounds, the imposing Oyunohara Torii Gate invites visitors to immerse themselves in nature and history. A peek of Japan's breathtaking scenery and rich cultural legacy can be had on this spiritual journey. I'm inspired to visit there sometime after seeing the video.
I know this might be a long shot, but I've been on an anxiety episode since last weekend. I stumbled upon your channel (thanks, TH-cam, for the recommendation!) right before a meltdown. And you guys don't know how much of a relief each episode of yours is to me. It was truly a godsend! Not only do I find them relaxing, but the storytelling itself makes them well worth the while. I pray that your channel grows more and makes you guys healthier than ever!
Fave ep so far! As a lover of Japan, I teared up every time you guys saw the grand torii gate ⛩ I also loved the two adventures and felt Robby and Thomas' excitement at meeting up after that long hike. I did part of the Nakasendo Way last year, this looks just as spectacular, if not more! Thanks also for the shoutout to @Jason Bourgeois he loves you guys 😁 and I appreciate the love you've given him over the years. Can't wait for ep 3! PS the graphs and the maps were 👌
Randomly stumbled upon part one of this series and I have completely fallen in love with your youtube channel! You guys literally combine my 3 favorite things: Hiking, stunning Cinematography and sarcasm hahha. Never stop making content... this is a threat. Y'all are giving me something to look forward to after film school.
Thanks for the entertainment!
You guys are my favourite creators! So underrated! No matter when I watch your videos, it feels like a relaxing Sunday afternoon watching Nat Geo. Many thanks from a girl who’s just finished number 4 hospital shift of the week
The best content...anywhere.
I live in Japan and envy you all. Hiking is such a passion of mine, but I have yet to meet a friend to travel and hike with. Being a foreigner here (and also having kids and a husband), solo hiking isn’t something i want to do at the moment as most of the hikes I want to do are multiple days. . Everywhere I’ve lived so far, I have found friends, here, it just hasn’t happened yet. I am living through you all.
Where do you come from?
I want to tell you how inspiring this episode (part 2) was to me. I was putting together a complicated piece of furniture on Wayfair while you were enduring this very strenuous hike with heat and humidity. My task was much easier than yours, but I was quite frustrated at times with cams and pins that did not engage. Thank you for your persistence. I finished the project as the video ended.
I've been watching this channel for years. I love how wholesome you guys are :)
The truth is… … this is going to be fun to watch.
This is fantastic. I stumbled upon your first video a few weeks ago and enjoyed every second of this one this evening. I love travel but can't go very far away right now. Videos like this are so satisfying to me because you really captured the essence of the trail and your experiences and I felt like I went right along with you (though was grateful to miss out on the leeches lol). Thanks for all of the care and attention to detail you put into both filming and editing, it's really appreciated! Love all of the nature, the history, the views... excellent.
I go to Kumano Kodo every year. It's a very healing place and I love it. There are many Japanese who can't go, but I'm happy to see foreigners I'm glad that the number of foreigners is increasing.l'm going to walk again this year.
Absolutely captivating! Your exploration of the ancient Kumano Kodo trail leading to the largest Japanese gate in the world is a testament to the timeless allure of Japan's cultural and natural wonders. The blend of picturesque landscapes, hidden shrines, and sacred traditions you encountered along the way offers a glimpse into the profound spirituality and rich history embedded in every step of this remarkable journey. Your storytelling expertise and stunning visuals immerse viewers in the magic of the Kumano Kodo, igniting a sense of wanderlust and curiosity to embark on similar adventures. Thank you for sharing this enchanting expedition, inspiring us to seek out the beauty and heritage that awaits us in every corner of the world.
Iconic Japanese scenery and challenging trails combined with the AA crew’s antics, comradery, small horrors and humor. Perfectly filmed, we felt right there! Spiders and leeches and hornets, O MY! Fantastic video! Thanks! Our Superspud is ready to greet you any time!
I got excited when the group united. This series is so fun to watch.
My father was born in a small mountain village in this area. I try to visit Kumano every time I go to Japan (it doesn’t happen every time, though). I believe I walked one small section from Hosshinmon Oji to Hongu. After watching your first video, my desire to cover more sections grows. Thank you for sharing the videos of this beautiful place.
I must express how much I enjoy your videos. They're truly captivating and expertly crafted. Your exploration of The Ancient Kumano Kodo is both entertaining and enlightening. Watching your adventures heightens my anticipation for the upcoming holidays. Through your videos, I can vividly sense the weather, air, and ambiance of the place. My love for Japan is deepened by witnessing the ancient Kumano Kodo on screen, and it ignites a strong desire to experience it in person. Your sharing of this remarkable journey is greatly appreciated. I extend my wishes for your continued well-being and happiness. Please continue sharing your future adventures; I eagerly await them.
10:30 Tomas to Robby for finding the restroom “Good luck on you quest….be free!”
Had to stop the video for a moment at 41:42. 3 LITERS OF WATER FOR 15 MILES HOLY MOLY AND NO DESIRE/NEED TO REFILL. I'm jealous of that water retention. Loving the video!
There is just something magical about hiking in Japan... perhaps it is the zen and tranquility 😊
What a lovely host taking a picture of you guys. He seemed wonderful and accommodating
What an inspiring expedition. The ancient trees and mosses are beyond beautiful most miles hiked ever!! So impressive. My favorite hobby long distance walking/hiking
Your videos are fantastic for putting on for sleep (of course I watch awake too) but your voices and music are perfect for nodding off to dream time adventure lands. The music is extremely underrated.
Totally awesome guys, I really thank you for bringing me along with you. Get them stamps, Robbie. Lol
You guys have no idea how much this inspired me.❤
In November I started with your oldest videos and watched a bit each night before bed. It was great to go backpacking every night. I enjoyed your journeys.
Robby at 30:36 running from a horse fly with a big butt, lol! Play it on double speed, so funny! And Thomas' leech scan, so funny! Thanks for filming your adventures!
My boyfriend got me into watching your videos and I have enjoyed this one the best so far!! It has become our ritual on Saturdays once you a drop a new one! India is an exciting place, wonder if you would consider a trip there! Loads of good stuff! Keep it up guys!
Visiting India would be amazing! I (Andrew) went to Bangladesh several years ago and it was a pretty incredible time. Thank you both so much for watching!
I'm unbelievably excited. I love the 鳥居s in Japan. I love adventure archives ⛩⛺😍😤
"You've got to die first before you experience life" Very true. :)
The Kumano pilgrimage tradition dates back at least a thousand years, but the religious significance of the area is far more ancient. The principal shrines on the walk (Hongu, Nachi and Hayatama) were well-established as sites of nature worship when Buddhism came to Japan in the 6th century. Rather than eradicate the autochthonous religion, Buddhism fused with it to create the Kumano religion, assigning the mountain spirits to their own pantheon, and encouraging visits from one mountaintop shrine to another ❤
You guys uploaded this just in time for my birthday and I couldn't be happier!
I was in chat just before the premiere began and then I left to hike a segment of the Kumano Kodo myself 😄 I went to a segment in Mie prefecture, called the Magose pass (the places in this video are more south in Wakayama prefecture). It was just 4 hours hike but turned out quite challenging in some parts (especially when I took a detour and climbed a steep 522m mountain, Mt. Tengurasan). Physically I was done but mentally I wanted more. So I ended up watching the whole episode on my way back home in train.Thank you so much for the series.
Amazing! Sounds like you had a good time on the hike. Glad we could make the train ride more entertaining, and thank you for watching :)
Best part is about 15 min in when andrew said wasnt that bad of a hike but looked like he just climbed out of a lake lol
Enjoyed your adventures. ❤
Really love the video really captures the natural sceneries. My teacher recommended the channel to my class but i think I'll stick around to watch the other videos!! really like how you guys mix daily life with the adventure. It kinda motivates to go out more!! Thank you for sharing your experience i think I'll look forward for more in the future❤❤.
This was the big show i was waiting for today.
Woo-hoo! I'm going to watch from the beginning.
I enjoy the beautiful music and positive words. Also, I am always curious about what you guys eat at the end. Thank you, guys! Luv from Salt Lake City, UT
Safe travels. 😊
Welcome!
I live near the big Toriigate. I’m local.
I ate ramen at the same ramenshop yesterday!
Awesome video! I admire your courage and stamina to hike the Kumano Kodo, which is not an easy feat. You captured the stunning scenery and the spiritual atmosphere of the ancient shrines very well. I hope to visit Kumano someday!👍👍👍
Thank you for continuing to take me with you. 🥾
It's so wonderful seeing the trip they do with friends, and that ancient stuff like the temple, Tori gate, and the other culture, it makes me inspired to go to Japan and hike there with my friends
a good (strenuous) time was had by all
absolutely freaking epic ❤
peak challenges, peak rewards and you guys being the best team ever 👏
i personally felt extremely involved about the splitting up and going ahead by bus because i'm always the slowest one in a group and some of my worst memories are from endlessly trying to catch up with my friends on hikes. going ahead by bus is such a perfect way to work with the fact that everybody has their individual strengths and weaknesses, instead of against it. seeing robby and thomas in the position of catching up was frankly hugely cathartic for me. thank you so much for that ❤❤❤
oh and happy valentines to everyone 😊
It's cool seeing all these sites again through this video. I'm pretty sure the rest area @ 25:55 is where I slept my 1st night. It wasn't the best sleep without a sleeping bag or padding, but it worked out alright.
It would not be Adventure Archives without a pawpaw sighting.
I find it very interesting about the various cultures around the world. It’s awesome to see your enthusiasm and politeness. Makes me want to join and explore the nature!
This like Journey by it self. Japan trail was so different, so much to see & point of interest like Shrines or Jisoo statues, small village, crows, cicadas . Thats complete all in one package
Holy heck, waiting for a part two of your kumano kodo adventures as a nearly two hour video is amazing. Thank you for the hard editing work! Also wanted to say that I've been inspired to hike the Kumano Kodo trail at some point too by your videos! Was it the Nakahechi trail that you did?
sounds fascinating! It likely offers breathtaking scenery and insights into Japanese culture and architecture. I imagine viewers would appreciate the journey and historical context provided by such an adventure.
watching this makes me realize how much i miss living in japan
I’ve never much liked leaches, but the way those stood up and walked was pretty cool.
Fantastic scenery! Thanks for capturing these places on video
I hope Bryan discovers his inner warrior and goes on a vision quest and documents it coming out the other side stronger than he has ever been before.
Amazing as always, guys! Excited for part 3!!!!
Witness the stunning natural beauty along the way. Even though I've never been there, judging from the video, Kumano Gifts is a great place for a holiday because the wind is good, the river flow is clean and the land is very spacious.
Amazing hike, well done to all four of you. The excitement of you guys reuniting on the trail is just pure gold! Enjoyed this so much!
I’m so exited for the next video! This adventure is amazing! I was totally excited when you all met up 😀
This was a tale of two hikes. Double the adventure when the teams split up and go different routes and the reuniting is always the best part. Those were some tough climbs, it seems in Japan, the trails don't mess around, it's going vertical right away but beauty is all around. Well done to all of you!
It's so nice to 👀 these Japan episodes, they lift my spirits🌞👍🏻.
Every adventure you guys take on, we all feel part of the adventure. Good vibes
This was great! Can’t wait for Part 3 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Wow, what an incredible trip! From exploring ancient ruins to indulging in local cuisine, every moment was filled with unforgettable experiences.
This always be an entertaining series to watch, The best part of this video is when they provide interesting images of japan’s natural beauty
I'm so happy to have found this channel! I love following your journey on trails across the world. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Thank you for sharing the breath-taking JAPAN! A proud country...
This was so good. Love the way you put it together. Excellent editing
Another fantastically made video,i look so forward to watching you guys between my own camping, hiking and campervan adventures, great job
I'll comment to remember my favourite shot of the video. 1:23:43
Loved the video and I really hope to walk this path myself in the future. Thank you for bringing it to me on this rainy friday!
This was such a great video ! The forest was just so amazing beautiful scenery!! Loved it.
Was so excited to see another episode! It was great! Congrats on the impending big day!🎉🎉
To answer Thomas's question, your body stops sweating when you're having a heat stroke and your body is trying to hold on to as much fluid as it can. You're in a dire situation at that point.
ayee the second part of this series! Loving the japan hiking vlog!
Thank you AA!
Thank you for another awesome vid.
And the 10 year old me was doubly excited when Robby pointed out the Zoids toys after he gotten the cold coffee 😅.
well done guys, great effort, I can well imagine getting the camera set up on the tripod near the end of that walk was a mega pain! Top effort.
This Japan series has been fantastic!
If this hiking is occurring during the summer (as indicated by the sound of the cicadas), it's unbelievable that there is no problem with mosquitoes. I spent this past summer in Kyoto, and the mosquitoes were relentless, attacking even during some of my weekly runs.
Wow, what an incredible adventure! 🌿🎥
Your dedication to capturing the essence of hiking in such vivid detail is truly remarkable. I felt like I was right there with you, experiencing every step of the journey through the iconic Japanese scenery and challenging trails. The camaraderie among the Adventure Archives crew is infectious, and your storytelling skills make each moment feel so immersive and engaging. Despite the small horrors you encountered along the way (spiders, leeches, and hornets, oh my!), your positive energy and humor shine through, making this series an absolute delight to watch. Thank you for sharing your passion and adventures with us. Can't wait for the future videos from you guys! 🙌
Thanks for this experience because I can feel it there and i want to go there one day together with my family
It's good to see that this channel can provide a captivating window into the wonders of the natural world, offering mesmerizing footage, insightful commentary, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our environment that reminds me there's still many beautiful place to discover!
So Keep posting and keep up to good work !
Amazing. Love it ! 🥰
Excellent. Hats off to you lads.I dont want it to end.You have inspired me no end.
This scenery is breathtaking!"
One heck of a bachelor party y’all had. ☺️
very amazing, I was very happy while watching this video, I have a dream to be able to go there, I learned how to be a backpacker properly during the trip, and what things do we need, and that's very cool, your story really inspires a lot of people and I am one of them. watching videos about nature makes me want to go on holiday as soon as possible, but right now I can't, and that's sad, but I'm sure one day I can go there and make my dream come true.
this place is mesmerizing 😮
