  • Why has the young #bollywood movie become a dying genre in Hindi Cinema. Why has it reduced to become a streaming platform trope. Why don't we get movies like #kuchkuchhotahai #ddlj #yehjawanihaideewani or #jaanetuyajaanena . What happened to the films that made the likes of #srk and #ranbirkapoor household names! What went wrong with #ishqvishkrebound , the launchpad for actors like #rohitsaraf Pashmina Roshan and Jibraan Khan. I hope you like the Discussion of What's Wrong With Young Bollywood Movies | Ishq Vishk Rebound Rant

What Mani Ratnam has that other directors don't is he focuses on stories that is universal across all ages. Even the current generation will relate to Mani's movies you mentioned.
Certain directors when it comes to making youth based films don't think about the basics of filmmaking and choosing good actors. Archies and now Ishq Vishq rebound is good example of vanity projects.

I feel like the 90s and the early 2000s especially with the releases of Shahid Kapoor movies back in the early 2000s beautifully portayed the young adults entertainment movies so well, with a good script and entertaining concept and plot.

That butterflies for teenage me watching DDLJ, Ishq Vishq, and even the smallest of fluttering scenes in KKKG etc...ah that feeling is sooo lost. I dont get those tingling feelings watching movies anymore, its more of second hand embarassment at this point. I cant even watch a movie with my parents and the former movies, all my family loves them!( Even if "love" is an alien word to them). Maybe, this feeling was fantasy for them too and they waned to escape too! Noadays...i dont even want to go to a cinema to watch a romantic movie when i know i wont be able to watch the whole movie without covering my eyes for moments. I wish the feeling i get from romantic Books can be again recreated and i wont have to rely on subtitles of korean/japanese movies/dramas for fun.

I think nepotism is slowly chewing out Bollywood, but not in the way most people think. People focus on actors, but the real issue is lack of creativity with writers and directors.
Almost all of the new directors are from the same social mileu and cultural class, there is no freshness in subjects being taken up. The same story can be narrated in a thousand ways, but looks like there is hardly anyone who can do it. Most of the teenage movies are also set in very high end convent school type with very first world problems. Nothing wrong in making one or two films like that, but if every single movie is going to have broadly the same set up, people are gonna get bored soon enough

Frankly speaking. The young innocent love we had in early 80 is not there in the GenZ. Nowdays commutication is easy plus even a 2nd standard boy has a girlfriend. So there is no novelity in being in a relationship or falling in love in your teens. The game has changed and film makers must understand that. They shoulr bring in yount talents for a script which is adapatable for Genz romcom.

I think it also has a lot to do with 90's kids and their introduction to the world full of hope.
They were the first to experience tech like personal computers, internet and watch movies in multiplex and have fast food.

I also feel the same, we were the luckiest generation that was grown in the era of everything new and fresh, a lot of hope for future, and even better political times when there was less polarity on ground basis. So we enjoyed that vibe till we grew up completely into adults. And sadly the kids these days have nothing and are just reliving on the used scraps or recycled version of our lives. For them the most exciting thing is social media, which itself is not a genz born , it came in the 2000’s. It is really sad truly

@ankit_67-mc2uq So they are filmmakers making it for purpose of entertainment & relaxation not from the purpose of education or providing news that they can’t fake scenarios. Just like sci fiction.. rom comm is also a genre that is supposed to be unrealistic caue it takes us to another world for few hours. If people are actually setting their real standards with unrealistic entertainment then the problem is with them not the filmakers. When you sit to watch a movie or series you know it’s just a story .. not facts or news.

I personally think it's not the story, most teen dramas are tried and tested tropes anyway, but the dialogues that make or break a film. Ishq Vishq had a lot of toxic tropes, but the dialogues weren't as try-hard as say those in Brahmastra and we still remember that movie with fondness. Brahmastra had(s) great potential but the dialogues ruined it for me.

My take on Main stream young generation movie is the concept mostly revolve around love that too love triangle. And the biggest problem is you are not even full invested in that kinda movie.i mean archies is so boring I can't even watch that full movie. Yes tvf is doing that for us but I want to watch something like adventure kinda of or science fiction type concept that young generation is exploring.the only young adults good actor only launch by amir khan. We need more young adult star which young people look-up to.otherwise our people are gonna only consume korean industry and other us TV shows

Agreed, everything is becoming so woke. They don't allow teenagers or young adults to be clueless and susceptible to screwing up and even so majorly. Western cinema on the other extreme shows teenagers as the screw ups before picking themselves up and figuring out life; one such show I recently watched was raising voices that had all the horror elements of being teenagers in today's day and age. I think we are ready to abandon the fluff because it just doesn't represent things anymore. Gone were the days we appreciated fairy tales. We want true stories now.

This is why I can never relate to young Gen z films at all being a Gen Z myself. I just hate how they portray everything in a very mushy, romantic, and at times way too unrealistic. Like, we have to argue with our parents to go to Goa, but in movies, friends are automatically going to Goa without any parental judgement.😅

It’s just sadly a generation of no newness forget movies, even in fashion or technology. We were the luckiest generation that was grown in the era of everything new and fresh, a lot of hope for future, and even better political times when there was less polarity on ground basis. So we enjoyed that vibe till we grew up completely into adults. They are sadly living on the used scraps or badly recycled versions of our lives, badly romanticisg 90’s and 2000’s. The most exciting thing that they have is social media which itself is a millennial thing made and run by millennials. If you notice even till today the majority world is run by boomers and millennials but in past the disruptors in the society came from the younger generation, be it Bill gates or Stever jobs in their 20’s or Mark Zuckerberg in his 20’s. Genz are living in their shadows still. Apple and Instagram being the most exciting things for them. All Genz are either busy in making reels or becoming influencers. Nothing groundbreaking. So sadly that’s the reason we are not experiencing anything fresh in this world.

Well, I think being in touch with what is currently happening and being 'young at heart' is more important than actually being young when it comes to making such movies. Some like "Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa", "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" or "3 Idiots" were made with older actors playing young people like Aamir Khan and/or by veteran filmmakers like Kundan Shah and Raju Hirani. Even older movies successfully marketed to a 'younger' audience like "Khel Khel Mein" or some of the movies by Nasir Hussain were made by people in their 40s and beyond, even if they featured younger actors. Hey even "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" and "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" were written and co-written respectively by Nasir Hussain, a man in his 60s.

The present day movies are far from reality. I saw college students from low tier to IITs, the movies are nowhere close to actual students in style. Only movie which I liked is 3 idiots and Chhichhore where the styling of the students is natural. No one has any six pack and or comes in Ferrari cars, max one can see in luxury cars that too in private universities. There are only hand full who concentrate on physique that too for competitions. Due bollywood movies like SOTY, over stylizing of students, few of the students who come for fests try to imitate them with cheap but stylish cloths.(replica of B.wood cloths from mass markets) which is an eye sore. Students in most residential colleges like IITs/NITs; some Dont even bath, some just wake up from bed and reach class during exam, few roam on boxers and shorts, the most used vehicle is cycle and electric rikshaw. In private non-residential colleges most students take public bus and autos. How do the public even gets connected to such movies if its not representing them. The problem with B.wood, it became a mafia of high class ppl who try to rub their experiences on common public. Even some south Indian movies try hard to convince ppl that girls wear micro shorts in colleges, I completed grad in 2011, jeans is the most modern clothing then and I again visited college recently Jeans became a casual wear among girls and thats all. Boys being simple creatures they never changed😂

Maybe what is actually wrong with young Bollywood movies is the skewed representation of people who are below the age of 30. The characters always come from well to do families due to which they have no financial responsibility neither do they care about their careers. They are only into partying and casual dating while there are so many youngsters out there who have to earn not only to look after themselves but also their aging parents or younger siblings. Generally such people look for serious relationships but unfortunately these characteristics are associated with being boring. On an unrelated note,12th Fail as a movie does a brilliant job in showcasing the protagonist as a responsible person to both this family and partner. We really need better movies which break this monotony.
