    I actually took my '15 Trailhawk up there last fall. It did well. However when drove up to the gate to ask if I could get off-road tags, the lady asked "what vehicle are you registering?" I said, "This one". Her response was very reluctant "oooooooo kayyy". I guess it's not the typical vehicle you bring to the Iron Range Offroad Park, I got a lot of glares.

      Lol! I had a similar experience when registering!
      Once I got on the trail and proved that it's capable I earned some respect

      Its because she knows the trails and has probably had to rescue more than a few people with the sport utility cars(SUCs for short). I ride Gilbert a few times a year. If you stick to the lame trails (level 1) you might be able to make it around. That vehicle doesn't have the ground clearance to hit even the moderate trails on the Iron Range. My ATV can barely do the moderate stuff, the higher level trails require some real hardware.

      It's not that. If you want something to thrash on why waste a $30,000 vehicle? You can get a 1998 Quadra-trac with a V-8 for $3000 on CL and not have to give a crap. Just saying.

    It did well on this red mud and rocks, mainly what I want a Cherokee Trailhawk for muddy roads. I think it is funny people comparing these to Wranglers. Drive 3 or 4 hours in a Wrangler and one of these, on the highway and see who laughs last. Your thoughts on muddy wet roads in the Cherokee Trailhawk?

  • @jasonshmummers8911
    @jasonshmummers8911 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    fuck is the point of driving off road if you go this damn slow? I have a wrangler and a trailhawk and i have never went this slow off road.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the trail and the amount of body damage you are willing to risk.

    • @jasonshmummers8911
      @jasonshmummers8911 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also depends on how you are able to steer. I'm talking about the trails in the video that is obvious. On those I would be going much faster as I said.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jay Hard to tell from those pics, but quite a few of those rocks looked like they could hit the rocker panels or those low hanging bumpers. I could be wrong, tho.
      He did come within fractions of a inch of taking a nice chunk out of one of his rims.

    • @jasonshmummers8911
      @jasonshmummers8911 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trailhawk does have a skid plate. In my wrangler I would be doing about 35 down those trails lol.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jay Hopefully it has more than one, but either way, stock skid plates will typically save a vehicle, but they almost always get smashed up in the process. They are rarely made for repeated abuse. And if he gets himself hung up on his skid plate, he's not going anywhere at 35 mph, lol.
      In a Wrangler tho, I think even a stock one of any year, I think I agree with you, I wouldn't hardly notice those rocks, I would just make sure my diffs cleared them.

    Was that the traction control doing all that growling? I've only heard mine from the driver side.

    • @ALIENxXxWARE
      @ALIENxXxWARE  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rubbing/growling sound is the brake-lock diff. Since the front is mechanically an open diff. Jeep has it simulate limited slip by using the front brakes., its a great system but is kind of loud on the trail

    Nice video, did you air down and if you did how many psi did you run with.
    Thanks

    • @ALIENxXxWARE
      @ALIENxXxWARE  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do air down in my TH, it has good tires, but they only like to dig when they're down a little. Generally I shoot for the 25-27PSI range all the way around. If I know I'll be doing deeper mud or sand dunes usually I'll go all the way down to 20-22. But that can be risky

      thanx Alien!
      Took my new trail hawk off road a month ago for the first time and I was amazed at how well it did.
      Did a very scary ascent (So scary that my buddy refused to stay in the car when I attempted it). Put it into low range/crawl mode. Took my foot off the brake and gas pedal, and just steered.
      Trailhawk took it like it was a piece of cake!

    not commenting on my hate for this vehicle...die hard 4.0or no guy.
    just saying this video shows why you don't want big rims....you couldve had same size tires on smaller rims and had less damage to the rims if any And you could air Down alot more.

    These things are the death of Jeep. You shouldn't have to MOVE a rock when you are offroading. I ride that OHV park a ton with my truck and my ATV. That was painfully slow watching you drive through there. Also with those tires you are going to get a flat some day in that park. We blew two tires last year there and we are running decent multi-ply too.

    I'm trying to decide between this trailhawk and a wrangler sport. I will primarily be driving on pavement with small off road adventures . Leaning towards trailhawk .

    • @jasonshmummers8911
      @jasonshmummers8911 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both cars. You wanna get a trailhawk trust me the ride is beautiful on the road. The wrangler will leave you worn out after long drive and is very uncomfortable on the highway.

    • @ericimi

      +Big Jaydoggy thanks for the input I'll consider that

    • @michaelkemp1097
      @michaelkemp1097 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ericimi Go with a wrangler. I come from a family that has owned multiple jeeps. The solid front axle on the wrangler has less moving parts, and less things to break compared to the IFS in a trailhawk. There are lots of things to factor in, at the end of the day its all up to you.

    • @ericimi
      @ericimi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Kemp ended up bringing home a wrangler sport today. It is aggressive driving but so was my 2002 tj , I would still reccomend the trailhawk to anyone but the wrangler just fit my style at this moment .

    Sorry but this is so painful to watch since both my stock LR Discos a 94 and a 01 both bought new, make this beautiful looking jeep look like a Cadillac Limo performing in the woods! Lol

      There are videos of this thing on the Rubicon, all over Moab, and elsewhere with people who actually know what they're doing behind the wheel - nothing here required a spotter. As an owner, I can saw it is ridiculously capable off road. But the Cherokee and Disco are vastly different vehicles in terms of cost, size, fuel economy, intended use and nearly every other aspect - it's foolish to compare them on any level.

    • @bjorker40
      @bjorker40 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christopher Kemp I do agree, and never meant to insult this awesome looking vehicle in any way. I'd actually consider owning one in the future!

    • @kong3
      @kong3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well here's my truth. I've owned 2 wranglers 3 Cherokees 2 Patriots (08 is Trail rated) My father was one of the first dune buggy builders in So Cal in the early 60's. I still own a 100% offroad Cherokee 01 with stroker motor and plenty of "stuff" AND I think this new Cherokee Trailhawk is amazing. I just bought mine with everything on it and in it and don't consider it a competition level off-road machine.. Duh. And neither does Jeep but it is amazing and has incredible electronics and gadgets. Great on the highway and our snowy icy muddy rainee flooded mountains in SW Colorado. Heading to Moab this weekend. It always comes down to what you compare something to and for what purpose.. Grimn Day your points are meaningless. And your name matches your demeanor.

    • @bjorker40
      @bjorker40 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously I struck a nerve...your desperate verbal defense of this beautiful car makes me sort of think you have regrets of not getting something a bit more capable of basic off road use! lol

      I have two rubicon but this guy bought the trail version of this thing and for what he using it it seems like its doing ok why bashing on his car if it works for him im actually impressed its more capable then most of its competition in its size and design i know its not a wrangler and it drives like a camry for all that and when you want you can take it to moderate trails and it doesn’t drive like crap as a wrangler its more like overland vehicle the jeep is more of a offroad truck lol

      Where in Ohio you from? I'm near dayton and wheel around Chillicothe. But as a TH owner this vid was painful to watch. It doesn't really showcase anything other than the terribad spotter. Also, i've earned mad respect from some of the crazy built rigs i run with...plenty of features everyone (including me) was sure i'd need to get pulled through/over...but she crawled right through once i found the line she wanted!
