It probably doesn’t matter for what you’re doing, but I suspect you’d get higher thrust numbers if you had some sort of a stand to hold the motor up away from the scale and desktop. I think that’d let more air get in around the back of the propeller.

If the thrust were reversed (such that he was measuring the force of the air hitting the balance pan, the motor/propeller would lift off from the scale. To generate thrust pushing against the scale pan, the propeller has to be gathering air from the back (from below) and throwing it out the front (upward). I’m pretty certain that’s what’s being done. (Also note that the orientation of the propeller is flipped, between the shot on the scale and when he attaches it to the plane.)
Who cares? The game isn't to get the highest numbers on a scale, it's to fly a plane. If he uses the same setup for different motors and props, he'd still get accurate RELATIVE data anyways. These static thrust numbers are meaningless anyways in the real world under normal conditions unless you are hovering.

@@ebbeweber1310This is actually very low power in the RC world. More like 10-15 minutes for a plane/motor like that using a batter that weighs under 50 grams. It's an F3P motor. They are designed for INDOOR planes.
Could you use these as in wheel hub motors? For an electric rc car, to shed the extra weight, lower center of gravity and make space on the chassie, compared to Conventionally done electric rc's especially in Awd platforms
У меня его китайский аналог турнига 22.05 1450оборотов/вольт. 22гр. До 600гр тяга при 12,5А но на 3S. Винт не помню (из жестких). На 2S тяга была где то до 500. А тут показатели прямо так...не плохо. Но ампер многовато. А вообще замеры не правильны, т.к. под винтом создается вакуум от эффекта близости земли. Как следствие, атмосфера дополнительно прижимает двигатель к весам. Это обратный эффект левитации. Эсть несколько видов транспорта которые используют этот эффект: способны отрваться от земли, но не взлетать, тут просто обратный эффект.

Propellers don't need space to create thrust. You change the pitch/angle of the blade and rotational speed for that.

Its even called "prop saver". Same performance, at least 5 times lower chances of braking prop. The only downside - it doesnt look good.
