Interesting to know how it's done and now I realise why the repair shop wants to charge so much. I alas won't be doing this myself. Excellent tutorial.
Thank you for this tutorial! I didn’t realise I lost weight for months and was still buying pants in my old size, so I sort of have a bunch of really nice pants that don’t fit properly. I don’t have a sewing machine so I was thinking of doing it really carefully by hand. Might take a while but it’s probably worth it.
Finally took in some trousers from a matching set that has been languishing in my cupboard. Feel really proud but it was only possible thanks to your brilliant tutorial, so clear and comprehensive - best one out there. Thank you!!
Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. After watching several videos I came across you and you made it very easy to understand & follow...very much appreciated.
Awesome video. I learned to sew in a bachelor survival class in HS. We made my wife a really well equipped sewing room with great work surfaces and machines (minus a serger). At work I wear 5-11 Tactical Pants which the fit is so random and I hate them to be to baggy in the seat. I think this video will give me confidence to tackle taking a few of the ill fitting pairs of them up. Thanks so much for such a video with such clear and detailed instructions.
I'm so glad you found the video helpful! Sewing can be such a useful skill, and it's great that you're using it to tackle those ill-fitting pants. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on taking your fashion fate into your own hands with some sewing skills! It's amazing how a little bit of stitching can transform those ill-fitting pants into a perfect fit. Keep up the good work, fashion designer in the making!
Those Strides (Brit expression) are delightfully eccentric & loud! How I'd love to see George parading them around my neighbourhood. You did a stellar job on them. 👍🙂👌
YAY, Yay, yay Anastasia... I have 6 pairs of expensive suit pants bought 25 years ago. To replace them would cost in excess of $300 dollars each. Local tailor shops do not return calls or emails. So why not buy a nice sewing machine and do it myself, I Did. The results are amazing. By the way, I'm a fussy 78 year old man who likes nice fitting clothes. . . just saying
Now that I have seen how you do that, I have realized that I use the same style of technique to take out the crotch curves when making denim skirts out of old pants. I dare say you are fast at getting videos out, like boom-craka-laka. You have such a lovely personality, love seeing your vids pop up.
Hello Anastasia. I would appreciate you making a detailed, step by step video on the red dress that you're wearing. Thanks much. ❤❤❤❤ Lovely tutorial. 😂🎉🎉🎉😂❤
This is an excellent and timely lesson Anastasia, thank you so much. I sew my own very first pair of jeans the other day and they expanded in the waist, so I need to take them in.
I lovelovelove your channel and all you do!! You got a person that was at first very nervous holding a needle to want to alter and thrift flip their own clothes. I always check your channel out when I have a new question now, your instructions are so well laid out and you are just lovely 🥰
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that I've been able to inspire you to try altering and thrift flipping your own clothes. It means a lot to know that my instructions are helpful to you. Keep up the great work and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!
Nice instructions. Something I learned is to slip one leg into the other to keep the pants flat to mark and sew. It works just as well when making pants.
Great question…… it’s easy if you understand how pants are made…. I would trace them out with a pinwheel & always measure the garment & your pattern to double check measurements & don’t forget your seam allowance. Happy sewing & pattern making .
@@danello7 Thanks! I do have a video on making the legs slimmer. How to Take In Legs of Pants or Jeans Boot Cut to Skinny! | Sew Anastasia th-cam.com/video/ngXWTYIpncc/w-d-xo.html
You know that little 'dinner slit' in the back of some trousers... looks like a little triangle cut out of the back waistband. How would i go about taking my trousers in but still retaining that feature of my trousers?
Is there a maximum number of inches you'd say pants could be reasonably taken in? Also, it would be cool to see a video on how to do cargo pants or pants that have those hidden pockets along the side seams of the pant legs (if you're looking for ideas).
@@aaronagostini7377 probably 2-3 inches. It really depends on how they were made. You don’t want the back pockets to meet so as long as that’s not happening you should be good. Love it! May sign up for lessons later, I need to take in some adorable but ginormous shorts that I thrifted. Do I not take in sides, then put darts in the back pockets? If that’s a sometimes option, how to know which technique to use?
Thanks so much for your advice. This video will help so much with the pants I buy large to accommodate a swollen belly that give me baggy butt. Is it possible to make waist bigger in pants that fit my hips and butt?
Great Vid and really nice pants. Would love to find some cloth like that. However what if your pants don't have any extra fabric to take in? I have some golf pants that are about 1.5 inches to small in the waist and I wonder if I can put some elastic or something to get them buttoned up. Thanks. I am a new sewist. Have a Brother and Husqvarna Viking Iris machines.
I've got to try this. I've lost quite a bit of weight from illness and i have so many beautiful pants that now look like clown pants. Taking them in for alteration would cost a small fortune. Question. If there's a significant amount of material that needs to be removed, wont that make pockets or faux pockets on the seat become too close together? Is there something else that needs to be done if that's the case? Great video. Thanks.
@@SewAnastasia gonna give it a try. I’m thinking it won’t be too tough because the sweatpants but I’ll let you know how I made out. Thanks for the advice!
When it comes to the waist part can’t you just use your chalk to draw a line on both sides? Think it be easier than using a roll ruler then you know exactly where to go cause you might be off if you use a ruler? I think I’d stick with using chalk for the measurement because then you know exactly where are you you need to sew by bringing them together
Hi, you only need to chalk one side & I used the rulers to true up the pin/chalk marks on the same side I chalked. Hope that makes sense. Happy sewing!

If you take in the waist to the crotch line, why don’t you have to take the legs?
