I would imagine the buffer beads are removable, so you can have a bead at each end instead of a rubber sleeve. This would make the boom part of the running rig, whereas the sleeve would fix it and add more resistance. I'm sure the resistance would be minimal, but on pressured waters, you want as little as possible.

They say that the pikepro gear is very good mate,I haven't tried these but have got something similar Carl,can't think who's they are but had em years mate and they do the job rite mate,like you say may as well stop at home till snows gone and then there will be the snowmelt chill in the water so can't be much coming soon eh mate. Tite lines for when you're out mate,
