  • The dreaded restriction call... it happens and will happen so be prepared! Straight to the point no unnecessary talking. If your lines are freezing and you checked the basics heres what you need to do!

    Dude you had your gauges on backwards that’s why the suction pressure was so high and the head pressure was so low because you had the gauges reversed. At 1:25 it clearly shows you have the blue low pressure gauge attached to the high side of the condenser. And the high side of the gauge on the low side of the condenser that’s why your pressures are reversed. Then at the end of the video you have it hooked up correct after you “fixed” it.

    #1 low on charge
    #2 blower motor stops running
    #3 AIR FLOW thru your ducting, could be a closed damper or collapse duct, or a clogged return and or supply vent
    #4 not enough air flow flowing thru your system
    #5 blower is running backwards upon install and no one cared to check
    #6 condenser fan isn’t running
    #7 restriction in the refrigeration system, or any non condensables and or moisture in the system.
    Before even looking at the refrigeration system everything else must be checked before diving in the refrigeration system.
    People tend to overlook the basics and in my opinion the filter doesn’t truly effect the unit to the point where it starts to freeze over, although a dirty filter can restrict airflow, and cause a drop in CFMs, its the least of your worries.

    What temperatures should be on both ends if filter drier?...to consider it a restriction?I did all that blew 200 psi on high side to low side,,,took the piston out made sure it wasn't clogged..n pressures still the same
    1st57 low.....220 high after
    60 low.....225 high.!!

    Yo. Can you just do a pump down with the refrigerant into the condenser or is it better to remove the old refrigerant and put in fresh refrigerant? I'm assuming if you use the old refrigerant you can just pump down into the condenser right?

    Maybe the bushes around the unit created an airflow problem? What do you think?

  • @geargrabber
    @geargrabber 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think it's smoke coming from the vacuum pump, I think it's vapor. Not sure if it's vapor from the oil or water trapped in it.

    How are you charging it? Liquid on which side? What if mine doesn't have filter/dryer? Is that bad?

    • @MoreThanMaintenance
      @MoreThanMaintenance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liquid line is the high side (skinny) line. The filter drier should be installed if you are evacuating the system and recharging the system. Hope that helps 🙂👍

  • @l.crossjr

    If a restriction, why is the low side reading extremely high and the high side too low. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

      Often the appropriate piston size is attached to the new condensing unit (I usually toss them as install txv systems) in a little bag by the service valves. Wholesaler should be able to hook you up, piston size is specific to tonnage...

  • @emilionunez4566
    @emilionunez4566 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I'm assuming there was a restriction on the line but not in the piston, by adding nitrogen u release the restriction?

    • @JP-zz5rm
      @JP-zz5rm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are pressurizing the system so whatever is causing the restriction like debris , it gets blown out and frees the line.

    No micron gauge? How long did you leave the vac pump on it?

    • @Ricky32908
      @Ricky32908 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jaythompson222 I usually let it pump for 20-30min

    • @tomwalker9184
      @tomwalker9184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We never had micron gauges or digital gauges in the old days, we pumped down a system untill the guage read -30 microns and then pumped it for another 30 minutes. If it held for 15 minutes we would charge the unit old school, using our math skills.

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You did have a micron gauge.. how did you tell it was 30 of them fuckers? Put a bug in the sight glass and when its head pops youve reached vacuum...? Lol

    If you checked super heat subcooling you wouldn't be guessing so much. High suction is not a restriction in liquid line

    • @realSamAndrew
      @realSamAndrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The suction pressure was over the limit on the gauge, and the high side pressure was in a vacuum. What is superheat/subcool going to tell you? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to tell there is something serious happening.
      Edit: I read some more comments and see that he had the gauges hooked up backwards. If those were the true readings my comment still stands. He may have done that just for demonstration to simulate a restriction. Those readings for real would be extreme.

    • @stevegarrett6047
      @stevegarrett6047 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@realSamAndrew with a restriction you would have low suction pressure as well. Because of the pressure drop in the liquid line. Superheat will tell you if your flooding/ starving the EVAP coil under feeding or over feeding. Low super heat flooding now picking up enough heat air flow issue. High super heat starving picking up to much heat so under feeding the valve so possible restriction with high super heat. Have to have superheat reading to diagnose or guessing. You check the charge in subcooling on txv but need to know super heat to know what's going on in the EVAP coil

  • @oldengdg2575
    @oldengdg2575 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you don't know what the problem was ? I guess crap in the line so just blow out and add dryer. It seems you should clean the lines out first.

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blowing the restriction out will put it either out of the system or on its way to the filter, to flush a system requires a lot of extra work thats unnecessary.. and if you dont get every drop of the flush out of the system it will react with the oil

    I'm not an HVAC tech; but, the vacuum you did is the worst I've ever seen. A gauge set can't get you to a 250-micron vacuum to be sure you have all the moisture out of the system..! Regards, Joseph
