Agreed I have the rexy lightweight and it does make a big difference to have the wire clip that is deep carry i much prefer it over the standard pocket clips
Some love for the Para 3. I actually like them over a PM2. The only strange thing is the Rockwell has been lower on my Para 3’s when compared to its Manix or PM2.. It’s not enough to kill the performance but they have been lower. Great video and nice collection.
That is odd I actually heard thee exact opposite that the para3's tended to be ran harder being a shorter blade and less likely to need extra strength 🤔
@@kevinAuman1 I have had K390, Bento box M390, DLT red M390, Manix Maxamet over Para3, smooth Cruwear. That’s 5 sets that the Para 3 was softer than it’s Manix or PM2 equal. That has been my experience so far. I have more pairs to test.
I prefer larger knives and the PM2 is one of my favorites. I figured I would give the Para 3 a try and have found that it is sn awesome smaller knife. I have the Lwt BD1N and the s45vn that I put titanium scales on. I will definitely add one in g10 at some point too.
I'm with you on the clips. Haven't tried Lynch (but will soon), but the old style MXG clips are better than the new style. They feel better during use and make the knife easier to remove from the pocket.
It might be possible that the liner got bent on that S90V one which is then forcing the scale to warp as well. When I put cf scales on my Para 3 I did that and it affected the action and, it's hard to tell, but I think it even warped the scales ever so slightly.
@@johnd9357 yup, they're so expensive now because everyone is treating them like air jordans and collecting them and stashing them away rather than actually using them.
That's what collecting means goofy. There's a diff between collectors and users and many people do both. Buy I don't know many people with 50 knives and uses every single one. I collect knives. I can't afford to put a 3 of 400 dollar knife through a ton of shit. Hell I really can't afford what I do have. I'd like a crk but can't afford it.. I use a couple of my knives that were around 100 bux.
I tried terotuf fireside scales and they were very flimsy. I couldn't get the centering to work out well either, but I'm new at that. I put the more rigid peelply c.f. scales back on and it centered just fine.
Interesting. I never thought about potential problems from ordering some aftermarket scales. I’ll be less likely to try that now. Thanks for the comment👍🏻
I have yet to try the micarta scales on the para 3. I own 2 lightweights and numerous g10 models. I dislike the feel of the lightweight in use. My s45vn has been with Kurt/BJ for a very long time. Scale wise I have to say the textured scales on the s45vn are my favorite. However I had no time to use them since they were sent out for hrc testing within days of arrival. My hands are callused from all the barbell training I do, so in hand it felt nice. The s45vn sharpened up great, so it would be interesting to hear your thoughts if one crosses your path. Performance wise nothing will stackup like maxamet. My xhp version did reach 63 when kurt tested it, so that might be a good candidate for edge retention testing at some point. I predict we will see m398 as a lightweight exclusive run in the near future as well.
I hope m398 comes. But hey. My s45 example is insane. Don’t get me wrong. Not quite maxamet. But the day I put it though hell it lasted longer then my s35 and s30 knives combined. I’m not sure why it’s that much better. But I beat the crap out of it for hours. Chopping on wood. Cutting some nylon rope and Manila rope. Shaving slivers of brass. I cut some rubber. Cardboard. Carpet. Linoleum. Some nylon based plastic. Shaved some pvc. Stripped some wire. Stabbed it into live oak and pine. And I literally couldn’t feel a difference in sharpness after all that
@@theknifeconnection9571 on forums i read spyderco ordered 5,000 pounds of m398 awhile ago. I have a custom in m398 that reached 66 hrc, however idk what production will produce for everyone. I too have been amazed with s45vn in my uses. If i recall mine hit 60 hrc when tested but i cant confirm that. Glad to hear how well its holding up for ya. Im probably going to regrind mine in the near future.
hey man, interesting videos testing different steels. I was wondering if you have ever tested civivi Damascus. Specifically the new pintail Damascus. I was curious to see how it would hold up against the pintail s30v versions.
Bro, you do realize those smooth g10 cruwear are a very limited run of only 600 and you want to go and change it to the reg production grey scales essentially killing its rareness and value?
I'd be happy to mod a Para 3 for you. 25$ for a skinny mod that includes return shipping. If you want a blade shape change or something like that let me know and it won't be much more for something like that.
AWT makes great skinny scales for the para 3. They are great
The features you point out help me better evaluate the knives I own and what I’ll look for in the future.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Much love from Switzerland
I've got a LW in M390. I do love a wire clip and the LW mass. Love the Para 3!

Like the para 3, blade size, only problem is certain foods but there's always another knife about for that. Great steel choices tho.
Not only doing the skinny mod to mine but rounding all the edges on the handle GREATLY made using it more enjoying (smooth G10 cruwear)
I got my spy27 blade on my 52100 para3 my favorite thing about para3 is you can mix and match them however you want.
Para 3s are an addiction I have (4) now plenty more I want I'm here for support fellas 😂
Nice looking knives.!
Thanks
Collection goals right there. Definitely jealous of all of your pm3s
Nice discussion of some cool variations.

So mad at myself for missing the xhp para 3. Even with better steels out there xhp will always be one of my favorite steels
Hey hit bladeHq and snag one of the boker autos in xhp for like $60 it is sooo worth it...

Yeah I like longer blades also . 👍
Have you thought to lower the front humb to give the three fingers more space and enlogate by this the back space
Enjoyed the video. What are the k390 scales, are those stock and were modded?
I just got my first pm2 and in k390. It’s ok. The compression lock kills my finger tips.
Ocd for edc has something he designed called "the compression made easy" go to his channel and check it out. Might be something you'd like.
- Trmxzer0 - I do know and have seen it. Not a fan of super gluing something to my knife

You're nuts my friend. I dont have 1 para 3 or 2. Let alone 9. And I wouldn't modify the 4v version. It's worth a good bit more money.
Life is short. Never keep anything pristine because it’s “worth money.” Just use it and enjoy it while you’re here on earth.

I haven't tested any Civivi Damascus yet. I'll find some to test when I can.
Blade thickness doesn't bother you?
Any idea what happened to Super Steel Steve?
What did you use to acid wash the rex45? Will it work on maxamet?
I used ferric Chloride and it will work on Maxamet.

Eh, he can change them back. The smooth exclusives took forever to sell out (at least the PM2/manix did)

@@theknifeconnection9571 that would be good or my email in the description. Either works.
Can you tell me what the two symbols in the blade stand for?
The ones on the right side of the blade are Eric and Sal Glessers makers marks.

I like the light weight. Sell it to me
