      30 And A Wake Up Thanks. I have a Lance travel trailer right now...all tanks are 45 gallons so we can go quite a while before having to dump which is nice. I’m just curious about these Travatos. 👍🏻. Enjoy! It can be a steep learning curve! It was for me a few years ago when we got started.

    • @John-cm9eu
      @John-cm9eu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@storychasing I was told not to do that. Fluid could back up from the black tank and contaminate the fresh water hose. Plus I'd rather not handle my freshwater hose while dumping. I use 2 different hoses and keep them separate.

    Nice van... was considering that in the next couple of years as an upgrade to my trailer but I think I'm too big (6' 4") and would be more comfortable in a B+ (like a Leasure Travel). Get a right angle adapter for your hose to put less strain on your fittings and stop using that duffel which will encourage the growth of bacteria and get pretty cruddy very quickly. If a hard tote is too big, consider a large vinyl camping bag which would be much easier to clean and sanitize. You should also be using a dedicated hose for backwashing keeping a separate one for fill you fresh/city water. Paul, Toronto.

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah..I think you'd be hitting your head in this thing for sure. I'd say 6'2 would be pushing it...I think there are some models of Bs with higher clearance though. But yeah a B+ might be better...not sure your feet wouldn't be hanging off the bed. Im 5'11 and am close to that. Good advice on the vinyl camping bag....Im checking amazon now. I have 2 hoses - the one you say in the vid that's just for black tank flush and another for fresh water. Thank you for watching and commenting, Paul.

    • @douglastoney2843
      @douglastoney2843 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 6"3". Our Travato KL works fine. The ceiling is close. The air conditioner requires me to lower my head slightly. The bed on the passenger side is 80" long. That bed is one reason I liked the Travato K model more than the B+ RVs. Most of them have beds that are shorter. Even if they say they have a queen size bed, it is usually abbreviated. That means only 74" or 75" long. Look close at the bed dimensions.

    I was taught, by an RV tank cleaning technician, never to close the black tank valve when you have the tank flush hose attached. The first time you don’t open the valve in time, or if you forget to turn off the water, you’ll flood your RV with overflow sewer water. The tank flush should have a sprayer to wash the sides of the black tank. I assume you have a separate hose for fresh water and tank flush to avoid cross contamination. Congratulations!

      Lynn, the backflow valve prevents sewer water from flowing back into the hose, it does not prevent the black tank from overflowing into the trailer. Also, how much sewer water is okay to mix with your drinking water? If the backflow valve leaks just a little, sewer water will get into the hose.

      @@30AndAWakeUp Essentially you budget some time for recon at grocery stores; I have lived this way due to life like this since 1985; Much time leeching a couch with somebody or living in roadside whatever can find ~ you budget your time between needed essentials / recon / visiting anybody you can find / recon or rest then that alternates with non-essentials to achieve sanity; Currently I am staying on the back of somebody's lot which I do cleanup and fix to preserve "sanity" ◘ So just to answer your question you do not have to have rubber gloves and they are a contaminant vector anyway; You get soap in any quality you can find and clip the fingernails short as safe and comfortable → I can warp your mind with all the tricks I have learned since 1985

      30 And A Wake Up excellent fist dump experience. don’t worry about the gloves, much easier to work without them. wash your hands after. 30 years dumping rv tanks and I have never had shit on my hands. Also except for storing the water hose in the black bag there is no way for it to get contaminated by flushing. Flushing every time you dump isn’t necessary. Save some space and use only one hose. Beautiful rv, good luck. I enjoyed the video.

    One small thing I do differently. I open the grey tank valve first but just for a second. This is to test the connections and make sure there isn't a leak or bad connection. That way it is only grey water and not black tank water that spills. After that, I dump the black tank followed by the grey tank just as you did. Have fun with your new RV! It looks great!

    you did a great job.. but MY UNCLE SAID GET A PACKAGE OF DISPOSABLE. AND YOUR YELLOW GLOVES put your disposable gloves on when handling your bag..to get to the yellow ones and your tubes... in the furture you may want to get the plastic container with lid to place the bag in ..or drop the bag because the bag hold odor.. and WILL BECOME DIRTY. the bucket can be washed out when you dump. AND NEVER put your face near the BLACK water hoses while draining ..not even for filming... he said if you see a rock put it on top to keep it in place. BECAUSE You can do everything Correct and sometimes you can still have a mishap.. but you did great on you first run....DONT forget your check list...😉

    I am also a rookie at all of this.
    A few bits of advice I can offer are:
    1. Be very careful of contamination while dumping the black tank. When you hooked up after moving the van you didn’t put your gloves on.
    2. I use a swimming pool child’s float as a kneeling pad. It’s about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long and 1 inch thick. It will save your knees and keep you clean.
    3. Look up the GEO method for keeping your black tank clean. Much cheaper and your bathroom won’t smell like an airplane bathroom.
    Great video
    Thanks

    Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the Winnebago family. Never ever do anything with the black or gray tank without gloves. Secondly always use a hose and rinse out the stinky slinky after you have completed dumping the gray tank. Make sure you have two hoses, one for dumping and one for fresh water and they should be different colors, material anything that differentiates them so they cannot be confused. Good luck and safe travels!

    1st suggestion- hook clear elbow to black tank outlet so you can see right away when tanks are empty or when water is running clear after flushing. Run clean water through dump hose from faucet to flush it out. I'm only 15 mths into my fulltime rv life and this Covid put a slight crimp in it. I am a little more static. Mooch docking with family and friends until more park camping opens. I have a B+ and yes you run into issues- but wouldnt change this lifestyle for anything. Definitely addicting. Hope you have safe, happy travels.
