You don't need to be part of a major studio to be able to correct the vocals well. All they do is they record enough passes for each section of the song until the recording engineer or mixing engineer hears that you have enough for autotune to work well (for example if the singer tends to drop way below the intended note and then correct themselves to the correct note afterwards, that is unrepairable and they would record that part until the singer stopped doing that). It's no secrect that only the major studios know how to do. It's just tons and tons of work and I don't think they wanted to pay this producer or the reporter enough to make him and her want to do that kind of a recording session and that much post-production work. Also, a LOT of autotuning is not actually "automated". With the really bad singers, you manually correct the vocals using autotune. But that is very time consuming. However not something only major studios know how to do.
Anthony Berlin You should hear Britney Spears' voice through her concert mic... the one that she sings along to the music with... well, nobody in the audience hears it, but someone leaked some of it. Truly dreadful. My point was simply that this was a pisspoor example. All the autotuned parts were clearly fucked with. The major studios and people who know how to use the shit, do it flawlessly and seamlessly.
The problem with Autotune is a continuation of what music videos did to music. It helps prioritize "the look" over talent. Record companies want a certain image for their pop stars, so they'll take a mediocre singer with the right looks and Autotune him or her. Meanwhile, truly talented singers who don't fit the currently popular image are putting out great stuff for knowledgeable fans, but not getting the publicity or commercial success they deserve.
Lady Gaga, Adele and Sia - Pop Artists that I believe doesn't need this auto-tune. I mean if We are talking about Music Artists and Performers in Today's generation that has real talent! who else?
+Jermyn Matthew lady gaga uses some, and sia definitely. It's very hard to hear with them but pitch correction is a standard nowadays to minimize production costs, singers dont have to do 100+ takes like in the old days, etc. In pop, autotune is in 99% of singers guaranteed. In some, more than others. Pitch correction found its way even into some small parts of metal, but metal, jazz and classical(opera) still remain the least autotuned genres with little to no autotuned singers. As for talent in today's generation, it's hard to say since people who actually have talent don't get commercial recognition nowadays. Good music is still out there, but you need to try harder to find it...however, once you do find it, it's the kind of stuff that puts the shitty pop on the radio nowadays to shame XD
Do I hate auto tune - No Is it over used - Yes I don't hate it. I don't love it. I'm a fan of all eras of music and have respect for every generation of it. And while I do think people who can sing without it are the people with legitimate talent, let's just cut to the chase and the accept the fact that the majority of this generations pop artists are made to look and sound better than they are because at the end of the day the producers only give a shit about what's making them money.
Sums up the whole music industry. Now add in AI and quantum computing in the next couple decades. Heck, it could take even less time for those to be advanced and widespread. Just imagine: a single quantum computer could fetch literally every song on the web, analyze all the patterns, and produce a masterpiece in seconds (well, let's ignore Internet speed and bandwidth). The industry's gonna eat that up.

Wait, that autotune was meant to improve her voice? That... is considered an improvement? Seriously? That sounded worse than her singing beforehand, and it's not because it's autotune.
I think if you put a professional to the work for a day or two, you might actually end up with something that would be passable. I guess it's just like with a rendered image, there more care you put into it, the more realistic it looks.
serious casual gamer i said almost... i didn't mean every single song in the world?? and a song doesn't need to be mainstream for it to be auto tuned. a lot of unknown songs are auto tuned too..
이제니 not in what I listen to, tell me one song that's been made by famoua metal or rock band that's fully auto tuned, I don't think there's many songs like that, in pop and the such however, 80% of the songs are suto tuned
i love auto tune for the robotic effect it gives your voice it sounds cool for certain songs. If a singer uses it who really cares as long as the lyrics are good.
dobb673 Thank you. Autotune has people mistaking some "artists" as Talented. It's sad really. I am part of this generation, but I perfer much older music.
Curteous Gemini so what if an artist has great lyrics but doesnt have the voice to match is he not talented. Thats why autotune is ok it opens up doors for new possibilites and growth its not like these guys are going around saying there the best
constilations They should be non-performing writers and let talented singers sing their songs. Been going on for decades. Auto-tune is fake. It lowers the bar.
dobb673 some people like that "electronic" tone that auto-tune can give a singer. It wouldn't be an anomaly, as we have decent proof that people enjoy electronic music being that it is so popular in festivals and clubs. It's not always that the singer is bad, even when they're near-close to pitch perfect the auto-tune can still sound a little because there are not that many singers that are spot on 100% of the time. We're humans, not machines, and if you view some artists up on some pedestals you aren't going to appreciate any of the lower talent. Such bigotry. I bet the people that are claiming it's "wrong" to enjoy auto-tuned voices can't even hold their own in the musical scene. So their opinions are not any more informed or grounded than the others'.
Christian Villegas There are a few artists who can actually sing. Christina definitely is one of them and I would add Jessie J too. This girl has a huge voice, like wow.
+Edbrad Yes, but it can never sound completely natural (which is what singing is supposed to sound like!), for just the same reasons as why violin sound effects on a computer can never sound as natural as a real human hand playing on a real violin. Those autotune "artists" should learn how to sing before they start performing in front of audiences.
I thought there was something sweet about her natural voice. It reminded me of when we are just singing something to ourselves or someone else (like a kid or a baby). I liked it.
I could do with some auto tune :P Lol, at the end of the day, a little is fine. As someone who's studied audio engineering, we use effects on everything. The rule is less is more of course, but auto tune can essentially be classed as another effect like compression, chorus or reverb which are often used on vocals to make them sound better.
***** the effectiveness depends on the talent of the singer, the less the talent the more obvious it is, and i don't see the point in using it if its obvious, at the end of the day a bad singer is a bad singer, and using autotune is just admitting it, especially live, and no is not a button, its more complex than just pressing a button.
David Cassidy (RIP sweet man) didn't, nor did he ever use auto-tune!! He had an EXCELLENT voice. He gave 47 years to music, the music industry, film, plays, TV & all his millions of fans. Next month he has been in heaven for a year, and he is sorely missed. 💔😭🎤🎸🎧
LOL.. there is not such job in the music industry called an "Auto tuner". Its a technology that EVERY music producer has at their disposal whether they use it or not.
Using autotune doesn't make someone a fake singer. Ed Sheeran uses a little bit of pitch correction/autotune in the studio, but he's really good live. Same with Sia and a few other artists.
I guarantee you cannot spot autotune very easily. Pretty much everyone uses it. If you are already a great singer, then only a very small amount is needed, making it nearly undetectable. You can only spot it very easily if it is heavily used. Go watch some videos on it on the channel RoomieOfficial. He has one where people tried to spot autotune, and it's very difficult. I'm positive you won't make a 100%
Melodyne is way more powerful and natural at pitch correction than autotune. It literally only messes with your pitch, leaving things that make your voice natural intact. But it doesn't correct pitch in realtime like autotune does.
+Leeroy Jones Every pop star has melodyne on their tracks, she is just one of the few who doesn't need it. But it will make a great vocal take by her and make it perfect musically, which is the intent.
I mean really ..... think about it. Why should one say that they are a singer if they need gadgets to sing for them (autotune). That's like someone who has a degree given to them for something that they never even received any training for and they pretend that they earned it and want recognition for it ...but to each it's own!
I think autotune is fine as a tool to give a song a futuristic feel, but people who use it as a crutch to hide the fact that they just can't sing (Jason Derulo, Katy Perry, etc.) shouldn't be in the music industry.
When they mentioned Christina, I was waiting for it and then 2:00 YASSSSSSS BITCH YASS. btw the shade thooo I'm dead lolol Britney vs Christina. DOn't know what people were thinking back in the day
+se7en1976 The reason people get dumb in this world is because they argue about stupid stuff like grammar and words on the Internet, when no one really ought to care, especially on a social websites like TH-cam, instead of arguing about stuff that matter; or perhaps they argue about grammar because they're dumb already...
+Ca Ka Christina Aguilera is amazing, I would have never thought when I heard Genie in a bottle back in the day. Two others that are actually damn good live as far as I know are Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus.
That's why we use Melodyne now. The pitch correction sounds natural, as long as you're stable and accurate enough with your pitch. This video is such a gross oversimplification of reality, though. Very competent singers can use it to sound more polished on a recording and during live performances. It helps them focus more on the overall performance and emotion, rather than being fixated on hitting every note perfectly (it's not humanly possible anyways). The opposite is true: you can be close to perfectly accurate and sing notes well, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're a singer with good technique.
ARKIRE ARKIRE yah i agree.. I can sing.... But sometimes i just like to use auto tune.. Sometimes I don't ..but especially when im drunk which i most always am when recording.. Drunk as hell. .. Auto tune... Well.. Does have a skill to be known in itself.. Its not just wam bam thank you mam I'm a rockstar singer now. I record quite a few people on Auto tune and they can't do it cause like you said. But yes its helpful.. Back in the day we couldn't hear as clear.. Mic and speaker tech wasn't as good so u couldn't tell the bad parts... But now everything is pitch perfect through mics and speakers it catches all the flaws. Hard to be perfect especially a tour show the whole night.
No she doesn't - but she sounds more natural, and hence better. A bit like when Kermit the Frog sings - it's off-key, but it's genuine and carries some emotional weight.

They never said that they actually sounded like that and if people bothered to hear their real voices (especially Britney, everyone knows Cher's voice) they'd be surprised at how good they actually are.

+MasterSteve26 I agree!!
+David Scott One thing that almost annoys me more about autotune is that it makes everyone sound kind of same and boring.
+David Scott yep! Singing as a talent means nothing now
Forest Que It does if you know where to look, which is not "X Factor" or "The Voice".
+David Scott As well as it should be. Looks are much more important than talent silly boy!
Jeff Clapton777 Your brother Eric doesn't think so.
3:25 sounds really good
It's true. It sounds like Dido more or less.
She sounds like a singer in “tomadachi life”
Daaaamn 😂😂
Lmao
Lmaoo
3:26 damn I want the full song now
DoubleVision what's the song's title ?
Wan MuhdYusuf "The First Cut Is The Deepest" - Rod Stewart
Sheryl Crow did a cover version...
Same
Lady Gaga, Adele and Sia - Pop Artists that I believe doesn't need this auto-tune. I mean if We are talking about Music Artists and Performers in Today's generation that has real talent! who else?
You forget jessie J ariana grande beyonce
+Nutella Love right...agree.
+Jermyn Matthew Lana Del Rey
Halsey,Lana del Rey,Zella Day,Melanie Martinez,Troye Sivan,TØP (21 pilots)
That's outdated software. Nowadays auto-tune can transform a terrible voice into something phenomenal without any noticeable electronic elements.
I figured that as I watched.
Santos Cetorz haha...you can't change a shit singer into a vocal beast. if they're bad, they're bad. auto tune will only correct pitch
+Santos Cetorz this is false. audio engineering will not make a bad voice good. this is an audio engineering concept
I kind of figured that things would be less noticeable now, as this video is 6 years old.
So much for actually learning to sing.
Something about the resolution and quality of this video is so cozy and nostalgic
Do I hate auto tune - No
Is it over used - Yes
I don't hate it.
The industry's gonna eat that up.
video killed the radio srar
jajajajajaja
+TheAlabasterdeplume i just had a flashback of playing Vice City
+RivzMedia 😂yeah
+TheAlabasterdeplume So very true.......you might have the best voice on the planet, but if you don't have "the look".....you'll never be a "star".....sad, actually.....
+RivzMedia holy shit me too. everyone knows its about espantoso or vrock XD but for some reason i fucking hated emotion and the swankiness of fever 105. But i also love flash fm and wave 103. then theres those talk shows where the political guys has dumbass views of america
Wait, that autotune was meant to improve her voice? That... is considered an improvement? Seriously? That sounded worse than her singing beforehand, and it's not because it's autotune.
+Terry Gilliam lol bitch you mad commenting on everything telling people to stfu
I think if you put a professional to the work for a day or two, you might actually end up with something that would be passable. I guess it's just like with a rendered image, there more care you put into it, the more realistic it looks.
+Quintus Cosinius That is indeed the truth, sir!
Honestly when they added a *little* auto tune it didn't sound too bad
👏
Singing is not only about hitting the notes beautifully.
auto tune doesn't have to sound robotic like that... almost every studio version of songs are auto tuned.
이제니 you really don't know anything besides mainstream music then
serious casual gamer i have no idea what you're saying. what does mainstream music have to do with my statement?
이제니 what you said about there being auto tune on every studio versions of songs isn't true at all
serious casual gamer i said almost... i didn't mean every single song in the world?? and a song doesn't need to be mainstream for it to be auto tuned. a lot of unknown songs are auto tuned too..
이제니 not in what I listen to, tell me one song that's been made by famoua metal or rock band that's fully auto tuned, I don't think there's many songs like that, in pop and the such however, 80% of the songs are suto tuned
Some artist don't ask for autotune...... The engineer might put it on there to give the song more life and the artist might like the outcome.
i love auto tune for the robotic effect it gives your voice it sounds cool for certain songs. If a singer uses it who really cares as long as the lyrics are good.
Exactly what's wrong with the world - this comment has the most thumbs up. Enjoy the free world while it lasts folks.
dobb673 Thank you. Autotune has people mistaking some "artists" as Talented. It's sad really. I am part of this generation, but I perfer much older music.
Curteous Gemini so what if an artist has great lyrics but doesnt have the voice to match is he not talented. Thats why autotune is ok it opens up doors for new possibilites and growth its not like these guys are going around saying there the best
constilations
They should be non-performing writers and let talented singers sing their songs.
The auto tune sounds bad though and her real singing sounds good
she sounds better without autotune
I was crying when they said Christina doesn't need auto tune. She's a SINGER a REAL SINGER! #TheVoiceOfOurGeneration
Lol!! Me too! She's my fav!! I'm so glad she doesn't use
Michael Yue Lol autotune is starting to sound like a drug
Christian Villegas There are a few artists who can actually sing. Christina definitely is one of them and I would add Jessie J too. This girl has a huge voice, like wow.
ironically enough, she went off pitch on the clip they showed lol
+Glad Drago r u sick ?
Autotune can sound a LOT LOT better than this, this doesn't actually show you how good autotune (and the alternative programs) can be.
***** yh cuz this dumbass aint even put in the right keynote
xxNicoLaiixx how do u know that
xxNicoLaiixx how do u know that
Alexander Yama Because it corrects to the wrong pitch.
+Edbrad
Yes, but it can never sound completely natural (which is what singing is supposed to sound like!), for just the same reasons as why violin sound effects on a computer can never sound as natural as a real human hand playing on a real violin.
Those autotune "artists" should learn how to sing before they start performing in front of audiences.
Tanya Sounds Pretty Good, She Had The Courage To Sing In A Recording Studio In Front Of People, She Deserves A Medal 🏅🎤
Actually that second mild autotune sounded quite good :P
that's 70% of pop music lol
Not all of them mate, sorry. It can help but some vocalists don't need it.
Look up Tyler Carter, Fame Over Demise acoustic
I thought there was something sweet about her natural voice. It reminded me of when we are just singing something to ourselves or someone else (like a kid or a baby). I liked it.
I could do with some auto tune :P
Lol, at the end of the day, a little is fine.
This guy works as an autotuner yet has a passion against anyone who uses it hahaahah
coolgr33k He said he likes autotune as long as you couldn't hear it.
He doesn't work as an autotuner wtf he's a music producer you don't need to focus and entire job on using autotune
Many people hate thier jobs. But it's where the money is.
LOL.. there is not such job in the music industry called an "Auto tuner". Its a technology that EVERY music producer has at their disposal whether they use it or not.
Selena Gomez
Maree Taylor exactly what I was thinking
YES
T pain never uses autotune
+Deli Sandwich lolno
+Deli Sandwich T-Pain is actually not a bad singer without autotune :)
+nicklas sivén Yes he is.
***** watch?v=CIjXUg1s5gc seems like you're a minority on this x)
+Jared Marsh yeah I may have been wrong on this one
I hate autotune, as soon as I hear it I know it's a fake singer.
I can spot autotune very easily.
Especially bad that it's leaked into practically every genre, currently. Even metal and rock ffs.
Using autotune doesn't make someone a fake singer. Ed Sheeran uses a little bit of pitch correction/autotune in the studio, but he's really good live. Same with Sia and a few other artists.
Ya can...??!??!!
yeah and its anoying
I guarantee you cannot spot autotune very easily. Pretty much everyone uses it. If you are already a great singer, then only a very small amount is needed, making it nearly undetectable. You can only spot it very easily if it is heavily used. Go watch some videos on it on the channel RoomieOfficial. He has one where people tried to spot autotune, and it's very difficult. I'm positive you won't make a 100%
awww Christina always making herself and her fans proud
yeap!!! I always proud for being her fan since the beginning, I knew that she was great since the first time that I listened her
i need the old youtube back, its a complete clusterfuck now
Nour Imam 2017 ruined it
Anyone else thing he added a bit too much autotune?
Millennium - Minecraft PE yee
This is why you use autotune and I dont
Under rated comment
Autotune can't even save wap bap
ba da di da da
Slab on me knob
Euyoro check in with me
Well, it already tried, but failed miserably...
anyone german?
Swetie Bunny ye
nowadays auto tune is so much more advanced and more powerful
when you make America great again will you outlaw autotune please? :D
What's the go to program these days?
Melodyne is way more powerful and natural at pitch correction than autotune. It literally only messes with your pitch, leaving things that make your voice natural intact. But it doesn't correct pitch in realtime like autotune does.
nowadays donald trump is more advanced and powerful as well
jonathon lesko yeah just ask future
She doesn't sound bad to me lol
Tanya, my wife and I agree that you are our favorite singer for the rest of the night. Fun video!
Christina Aguilera doesn't use auto tune
She does. Everyone does but it's not noticeable.
No she doesn't. One of her team was interviewed and said she doesn't use and don't need any auto tune during the recording of back to basics album.
+voltaire balagtas For Bionic she did, but that was for artistic purposes
+No Search a vid with her singing live, it's obvious she doesn't use autotune, she's just a talented singer.
+Leeroy Jones Every pop star has melodyne on their tracks, she is just one of the few who doesn't need it. But it will make a great vocal take by her and make it perfect musically, which is the intent.
Anyone who sings with autotune shouldn't be in the music industry!
+underneonloneliness2 I agree totally
Why not?
I mean really ..... think about it. Why should one say that they are a singer if they need gadgets to sing for them (autotune). That's like someone who has a degree given to them for something that they never even received any training for and they pretend that they earned it and want recognition for it ...but to each it's own!
I think autotune is fine as a tool to give a song a futuristic feel, but people who use it as a crutch to hide the fact that they just can't sing (Jason Derulo, Katy Perry, etc.) shouldn't be in the music industry.
I agree!
Did that man say his name was Tennis Mounts?
1:10 *then Britney pops up* so much shade 😂
"whats a nice word" savage af
When they mentioned Christina, I was waiting for it and then 2:00 YASSSSSSS BITCH YASS. btw the shade thooo I'm dead lolol Britney vs Christina. DOn't know what people were thinking back in the day
+se7en1976
The reason people get dumb in this world is because they argue about stupid stuff like grammar and words on the Internet, when no one really ought to care, especially on a social websites like TH-cam, instead of arguing about stuff that matter; or perhaps they argue about grammar because they're dumb already...
+se7en1976 Australian guy complains about bad slang english... you made my day
+Ca Ka - I would listen to Christina over Britney any day.
+Ca Ka
Christina is a more talented singer, but Britney had the better songs by far.
+Ca Ka
Christina Aguilera is amazing, I would have never thought when I heard Genie in a bottle back in the day.
This. I can *land* notes because I have perfect pitch. But I'm still a terrible singer.
Or, just a thought, you could actually learn to sing. And maybe, just maybe, you'll be passable
VL (YBlvr)
Ew k pop
The point of listening to a human singing is sort of hearing what is humanly possible is it not?
I don't know how to thank this old news post. So much old music fill me with nostalgia.
Faze "Blaze" took this video to a whole nother level.
Harmless so true
Ikr he’s soooo shit.
it sounded worse with the auto tune haha
She sounds pretty good without autotune
Not really, she was really flat. To an untrained ear it might sound passable, but everyone in the music industry would recognize it as quite bad.
+Murtsman1 lol I'm majoring in music composition and clearly noticed it.
No she doesn't - but she sounds more natural, and hence better.
A bit like when Kermit the Frog sings - it's off-key, but it's genuine and carries some emotional weight.
***** a good tone basically.
Ya right britney has proven herself time and time again her imperfections is perfection
She's just a puppet and a face an that's that
@@lilwoodiewood3457 yet she's somehow more successful than your rude ass
damn no wonder you're not relevant you're bragging about getting hits on spotify and comparing yourself to eminem when you can't even rap on beat to save your life
think you need to learn to accept criticism in life and be a bit more humble lmao
I'm mad that they put Cher and Britney out there like that hahahaha but imma sip my tea.
but that's none of my business
+Micah Kimsey I am too; they are both good singers. They use /used auto-tune to achieve certain effects just like someone would tweak the settings of an instrument to get another sound. They never said that they actually sounded like that and if people bothered to hear their real voices (especially Britney, everyone knows Cher's voice) they'd be surprised at how good they actually are.
hahahahahahahahaha love this comment!!!
Why did this pop up after i watched sweatshirt by jacob xDD
Even with auto-tune Jacob sounds horrible
true xD
Why did you watch Sweatshirt by Jacob to begin with
The real question is why did you search Sweatshirt by Jacob
Because I watched Bart Baker's parody and i forgot what the song was actually like and i watched it and got cancer
oh im supposed to be studying for a test, but im watching this!
Hello failure
RESPECT FOR THIS REPORTER!
