- Installing Flatpaks is another way to install linux apps on a Chromebook and it's SUPER easy to do. Probably one of the easiest ways to get Linux apps installed and running in Chrome OS.

☀ Commands:
sudo apt update - look for software / system updates
sudo apt upgrade - upgrade your system files
sudo apt install flatpak - install the core flatpak system
flatpak --user remote-add --if-not-exists flathub flathub.org/repo/flathub.flat... - add Flatpak repository
CTRL+ALT+T - access the ChromeOS terminal
vsh termina - access the terminal to modify the linux container
lxc config set penguin security.nesting true - modify the Linux container to run Flatpaks

I have a question. I am trying to use Fluidsynth on my HP chromebook (intel pentium silver, 4gb RAM) but every time I open Fluidsynth (aka Qsynth), it says "failed to create audio driver (Jack)"
Do you know how to get this "Jack" driver? Is it even possible?
Or an even bigger question would be: is it possible to get a linux synthesizer working through your method?

How do you set up linux when you already clicked the turn on option but did not run the sudo part when it popped up. Eventually turned off the computer, then attempt to turn on developers again, but found that the turn on option is unavailable?

My 'new' refurbished Chromebook no longer updates, ( since 2021) but I'd like to modify it or figure out how to install Linux apps, and I need some help. I've already removed the WP screw and swapped out the 16GB SSD for 128GB. Can I install another version of Chrome OS that still updates, or is this impossible? Can I try SeaBIOS and run a few operating systems and an external hard drive instead?
Is there some way to install an application that exists for linux but which is not in repositories? For example, pinegrow web editor, its available as a ,zip file for ubuntu, and not as .deb. if yes, how? Thx

Everything has been download but when I try to run it , it says wrong permissions on runtime directory how do I fix that?
used this to see how to install the apps and when i ran the command luckily i had not ran into the issue caused by nesting containers set to disabled since the source i used was actually the official flatpak chrome OS instructions and it tells you to enable nested containers as the first step

Incidentally, the container now seems to have no problem running Flatpaks. Version 103 on my machine didn't need the fix.

Eevnos, I installed linux with your help a couple of months ago, i received a notification that their was a update to the container, but the update failed so I "wiped" linux and re-installed it. With this I installed "flatpak" with this method and it too failed? The "last" command is "unclear" could you wrrite it again?

Unfortunately no.. those Chromebooks don't have the necessary subsystems to make that work.
There's a way to load another image, on the C720, that will allow you to run Android apps but it's not a process that I'll be covering (since I don't have one of these Chromebooks).

Did you launch it from the command line and got exit status 256?
If you just launched it from the app menu then start watching the video about at about 5:45.
I mention to launch it from the command line, the first time, because there may be an error that I then tell you how to fix.

How do you delete flatpacks?
You can get a list of installed Flatpaks by running - flatpak list --app.
Then, to uninstall an app, just run - flatpak uninstall App-ID
App-ID is the ID of the application you got from the first command.
