Mary and Max is one of the few movies that made me cry like a baby. I wish more animated films can tackle hard subjects like the ones in this film.
I am realar's girlfriend irl, and I have to say this: Thank you. This video made him so happy, and it made my day to see him tearing up in joy as you mentioned his grandfather with such praise. I've seen your movie reviews, and though the other videos are indeed part of the reason, most of the reason I am subscribing is this video alone, for the joy you gave him. Thank you.
Gumby? Gumby. GUMBY~!
Also, that scene from Mary & Max where Max is at the receptionists, then it cut to him on the train with a chair from the office? I howled out in laughter, as one thing I often joke about (being an Aspie myself) every time I'm told to "take a seat" at an appointment is that "none of them matches the decor at home"!
I remember Gumby
and im autistic too
Gustavo Barría Chavarría
well i was diagnosed with asperger's syndrome a long time ago, but now the put asperger's in the autistic spectrum, so now im autistic
I was born in the 2000s so..I don't remember watching gumby but I Know of him!
I have autism too...
And present me Knows wallace and gromit, Something I probably feared as a Young Baby..Now loving it!

I remember watching Mary and Max.
Thinking it was a kid movie.
Why did I make that decision.
That movie was depressing I even found it hard to sleep after I watched it.
it was good though.
I relat to Max i have autism and that is a form off Aspbergers
My step mom at the time had that same thought. She also thought it would help us learn more about my condition... condition isn’t a word I would use but I was drawing a blank.
Super Wario otis Other way around, asperger’s is a form of autism
I saw "Fantastic Planet" once a long time ago, and I remember really liking it but being unable to find it again because I couldn't remember the title. Plus, I learned stuff I never knew about it. Thank you AniMat!
It seems Twice Upon a Time jump started the careers for a ton of important people. That and the film on it's own really makes me want to see it now.
this channel is a national treasure. thank you so much.
Mary and Max was a great movie. Although parts of the visuals were an acquired taste, the themes were handled well and most the jokes were hilarious. As an aspie myself I was impressed by how unbiased they were with talking about the condition. Overall it's a cool movie, and showcases how powerful animated movies can be. It's a difficult movie, but still an especially good one.
Im an aspie too
animation is my favorite art form as you can do anything with it like do a time period feature or even a weird film like the yellow sumbirne.
Twice Upon a Time aired on the Disney Channel in the 90s. I have it recorded on tape and it was how I saw the film.
Max and Mary was so sad. It was so real I was crying for hours
Loved Mary and max so beautiful and I did cry a bit and the end x
Mary and max is honestly one of the best movies I have seen. The black and white and animation style was all so lovely and then the story and characters to add to it 😻
I love this channel! Every video is well researched, well made, well written and they are always so intriguing. I have lots of fun watching these videos as they’ve helped me get more interested in animation. This specific video is my personal favourite out of all your videos and I really appreciate how you give lots of underrated movies lots of credit, which they deserve. I’ve recommended you to lots of my friends and told them all these cool facts from your videos which have helped them be intrigued. Great channel! Hope you reach a million subscribers because you really deserve it at this point.
if Michael Jackson did do the music for the movie, it may have had a change of being a box office hit.
Dude! I grew up with Gumby! I had VHS tapes that I'd watch all the time, and mom says it's the only thing I'd have the patience to watch as a toddler. I was actually quite underwhelmed at the movie.
I got more and more hyped to tgo watch "Twice upon a Time". Now it's one of my tasks in life.
Phelous should review Twice Upon a Time because Lorenzo Music is in the movie as Ralph. (And you know how much Phelous likes Lorenzo Music)
Mary & Max is the best movie ever
+ShadowBladeX b380.wordpress.com
Mary and Max is a masterpiece of a movie.
I'm 20, and Gumby was a figure I had known since my childhood. Being apart of my father's childhood, we had some figures og Gumby. Also, me and my siblings saw the Gumby Movie at a relative's house.
I never saw Mary and Max, but I remember coming across a clip from the film awhile back where Max talks about Asperger's. Since I have Asperger's myself, i thought the clip was totally relatable, and I might watch the whole film. But don't know if it's rated PG or not...

Klay World by Robert Benfer (or Knoxkorner as he was known back on Newgrounds) was particularly inspirational.
I owned Gumby the movie as a kid and was freaked out by it, not understanding how old it was and the fact that the song at the beginning really freaked me out. I discovered Gumby when I saw him on a wall at a restaurant me and my family were eating at. In fact that was when I first learned about cancellation and began hunting it down. I found the movie and had fun watching it. I would say that Mary and Max looks older than it is and as I said it was depressing. But overall I liked Gumby and Mary and Max was probably not for my taste.
Chlovan how is gumby the movie terrifying
Mary and Max makes me cry every god damn time
1:34 Irony: you should have said "just like South Park" cause it's also cutout animation too
But it’s been done on a computer for most of its run.
That was for the first two shorts Trey and Matt did, as well as the original pilot. But they used computers since then.
I'm not entirely sure, but the way I see it the Gumby movie would definitely be considered an underrated movie.
Mary and Max
Story: 10/10
Animation/7/10
Characters: 9.9/10
7/10? The animation is fantastic.
I wonder if he would ever consider doing an episode on some of the exceptional animation that one can find right here on TH-cam? There's this gorgeously detailed and unique little stop motion film called "The Maker" that I really think deserves more attention.
I used to have some Gumby earrings at some point. I wish I knew what happened to them. I loved that show.
Fantastic planet really does look like something that came out of a monty python cartoon
No, he said we are coming to the end of this look back :(, also love the Robin Williams clip.
I wish he would review fantastic planet on its own. There needs to be a in depth comparison to it and avatar which Cameron to debate if he clearly either ripped off or did a tribute to it.
What sucks is that these have a lot of effort in them, but don't get that much attention. Mary and Max is an amazing film.
Great video, Matt. As always.
Animat In Other Words He Secretly Made His Own PG Rated Version Of The Film & Pretty Much Told Cordy
Botch “Well Let Me Just Say Tough Sh@@!
Davey and Goliath is also made by the creators of Gumby
THE BEST VIDEO! OF STOP-MOTION
The end off Mary & Max Always make me cry
Plot twist. The fantastic planet was megamind’s birth planet
Animat, did you know that Fantastic Planet became the 4th Animated film released on Criterion in June of this year?
I just watched Mary and max last night it was the most depressing movie I've ever seen.
Don't forget about my stop motion/ live action feature "Imagination" ! Been enjoying your vids on stop mo!
Dallas McKennon was also the voice of Archie and a few other characters over at Filmation.
Were is in the hall of the mountain king?
Another example of paper still animation like what was used in fantastic planet was the earlier seasons of South Park
I love Adam Elliot's work. I was first exposed to him when I watched Harvie Krumpet on TV.
2:06 Animat Emulates Gumby “Monty Python’s Fantastic Planet!”
I believe that despite what the gross was, the full original version of Gumby the Movie (as in the version all of the scenes in it that was released from kid vision) should be released on dvd and blu ray very soon as what I think could be a special edition.
I never seen Gumby the movie but I do enjoy the shorts from the late 50s and early 60s
I wanted to watch twice upon a time now
1:04 DEMON imagine watching this at 3 in the morning
"Fantastic Planet" kind of reminds me of something I have seen on a music album cover.. I forget which one, but the blue people look familiar:/
the one album by queen seemed similar
I love Dallas McKennon's work. By the way, that cartoon with Buzz Buzzard you showed at 15:28, he was voiced by someone else.
Great vid! I'm gonna subscribe for more!
Ralph: It does Kinda stink doesn't it but then again it's garbage you know. Garfield: uh the kitchen looks like a dump the living room looks like i think a lot of garbage all over it. 8:41
wait a minute...
MAX HAS SHREK'S EARS
Wait a minute, Max, Shrek? As in Max Schreck in Batman Returns?
August 5 is the 32nd anniversary of twice upon a time. Correct me if I'm wrong
I remember watching Gumby as a kid
Paul Freese also played John and George in the 1960s Beatles cartoon
To be honest, I think Paul was to Rankin/Bass like what Mel Blanc was to Warner Bros and Daws Butler was to Hanna-Barbera.
That weird eared guy from Mary and Max looked a bit like the early 1996 design of Shrek.
I watched Gumby as a kid.
+The Phantom of the Paradise They shortened the Gumby Movie!? I watched that movie as a kid and didn't have a problem with how long it was, but now they decide to shorten it? That is some bullshit right there.
This is cool!
awesome video! great research!
I love twice upon a time
when looking at the stop motion films on Wikipedia I had a question. WHO TOOK TWICE UPON A TIME OFF OF THE PAGE? and Has anyone saw 2010 the year we made contact
what an outrageous french accent!
Use to rent Gumby from blockbuster as a little kid. I still love poky
Adam Elliot worked on De Blob! I love that game
Rewatching this...I can't believe you didn't talk about The Adventures of Prince Achmed!
Please review Mary and max!!
I really want to see Fantastic Planet, Twice Appon a Time, and Mary and Max
I watch mary and Max on Netflix with my mom and i thought it was good
I loved the Gumby Movie. Wouldn’t stop watching it when I had it.
As for Mary & Max... hoo boy. It’s commendable but not a movie I would watch again. Maybe I would get more out of it now as opposed to years ago.
Then again, seeing these clips made me think more about it. Like it might be more relatable? Like maybe I relate to Max but in a less extreme way?
I did a Review of "Twice Upon A Time" still working on The Commentary.
The drags are terrifying ._.
Even though the gross for the Gumby movie was $57,100 dollars that, I believe, is still a huge amount of money for a movie's gross. Getting down to the real point, the original version of that movie should be released on blu ray, how can I put this, very soon.

The net Wanderer Soon. :)
You got your wish!
I just liked watching Gumby cartoons.
133rd view meow
Have you thought about doing a look-back at the British children's shows that were made in the 60s onwards? A lot of iconic shows are all animation in varying degrees; these are just how I would describe them:
Bagpuss, The Wombles, The Clangers, Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids = puppets and stop-motion
Chorlton and the Wheelies, Camberwick Green, Trumpton = toys and stop-motion
Ivor the Engine, Mr Benn, Captain Pugwash (the original version) = paper art
Roobarb, Spider in the Bath = looks like a kids drawing
Did anyone else hear that burp sound?
I actually have Asbergers Syndrome.
+Dazen your'e not alone
me too
me two
me three
Same
are you going to talk about Fantastic Mr.fox? I don't know a lot about Wes Anderson, but I know he did that film
a small girl from Australia being pen pals with a full grown man in new York... not creepy at all
I'm pretty sure that the Gumby movie was a whole lot better than the other three movies that you talked about. At least that's what I believe. I think that, regardless of what the gross for Gumby the Movie was, I believe that the original 90 minute version of that movie should be released (hopefully soon) on dvd as a special edition. In fact, both the original 90 minute version and the director's cut should be released on dvd as a 2-disc set. One disc would have the original 90 minute version while the other would have the director's cut. But both discs would have all of the dvd features such as the special features, scene selections, and subtitles. You understand what I mean, don't you?
Will you make a video discussing the works of Ivo Caprino?
I only clicked on this video because I saw gumby knowing who he is!
17:12 not even Delgo, Felix the Cat: The Movie, Trumpet of the Swan?
I know these are video games, but their stop motion. Can you talk about clay fighters, nightmare Ned, the neverhood, and the dream machine
And why did Animat never talk about Rankin Bass?
Diego Diaz Maybe he wants to do that studio as their own Lookback? The Stop-Motion Lookback was very long as well.
ElectricDragon505 It does seem like 2015 IS the comeback year.
Here's a few of the returning shows:
Powerpuff girls
Dragonball Z (as movies)
Digimon
MegasXRL (Said to be released, although no further word)
Magic School Bus
These are only a few ofc, there were many more but I can't remember, forgot and/or can't find them.
I hope this is the start of something amazing. Maybe teen titans season 6 will air, then again teen titans go is still about.
That and prior a bunch of series have already returned, one of which is, ahem.
*Deep Voice* : " Xiaolin Showdown! " As Xiaolin chronicles. I can't wait for season 2, that's where the last series "kicked off".
***** Unfortunately the Powerpuff Girls' reboot won't have any of the returning voice actors.
Gordon Dogson Really? Oh well, at least the shows coming back.
Hopefully some old shows will return as well with it, even if its new cast.
All but ed, edd n eddy; who's creators died; one of which while they made season 4 :(
***** Aw that's a shame, but I'm kinda glad Ed, Edd n Eddy isn't continuing; the movie did have the perfect ending for their series.
Gordon Dogson
Yeah... I think that their former Spongebob Squarepants (which unlike Spongebob had always been good) should rest.
Rip Ed,Edd n Eddy 1999-2009
Wait, o they been pen pals for 20 years, but one of them is 8.....I don't it works like that
No u don't get IT when theay stoped with the pen paling IT had ben 20 years so in the end off the movie Mary is 28
16:37 It's ugly, i think I'll, yeah.
Is gumby the movie a kids film?
12:33Yes,yes it was I reviewed it.
ElectricDragon505 What soundtrack did you use for Twice Upon a Time?
